So what about the kids? This thread is about Gay Parents

[reply The jury is out about what happens to kids raised by other than heterosexuals Ummm no? There are SCORES of children who have been raised in same sex or other unorthodox households. WTF are you even talking about. The jury is most certainly NOT out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1VnEexIhBTU One of hundreds of examples. -
If it was "nurture" How do you reconcile gay children coming from straight households, and vice versa..straight children raised by same sex couples. Id even suggest there are homosexuals who grew up in the same kind of environment Promise5 did...explain that one. I don't think they are the exception, I think they are much more the rule. People are wired to be who they are. You can fight that wiring, but you can't change it.

I'm sorry; My mind drifted off at "identical". Could you repeat that? It made me cringe personally. There are 2 of her running around

Its My Little Pony. Not My Pink Pony Does my avatar throw a wrench in your heterosexual males confident in their sexuality would never have a pink avatar theory? I have a pink rig, and I'm pretty sure I'm straight. Why the pink rig? I bought it online, the description included model dimensions and condition. The color was mentioned when it was enroute. The upside of having a pink rig? Even full of free beer at a boogie, nobody is going to mistake it for theirs and stow it. The downside? If you hose a big way, even blurry video will get you axed. FWIW, none of the gay jumpers I know would be caught dead jumping something so tacky. BSBD Winsor Hahah, +1. Id rock a loud ass pink rig all day long. Whatever gets the ladies talking works for me.

Know the difference between what? My Little Pony and My Pink Pony? I would bet that little girls who watch the show would know the difference.

There's the point then, you're not gay. If you were attracted to men you would be, but you're not so you aren't. That's not a choice, that's how you are. +50 The sad thing is even though people like regulator say they aren't attracted to the same sex, they still believe its a choice. Can't fix stupid.

Wow. Rushmc is for polygamy. Guess we know who voted for Romney.

Im with you. When do we start the euthanasia on the boomers? I like the grandfather clause! Aptly named since we are going from how our grandparents lived, to allowing people to live openly and free. So: Step 1) Kill baby boomers Step 2) Write laws abolishing any sort of rights/benefits/exemptions/lollipops/glitter for (new) married couples Step 3) Allow gay people to get married. That seems simple enough. Only 3 steps.

I get most of my Christian news from this place. http://www.godhatesfags.com/ The Westboro Baptist Church. I bet you can find that video on there. "Since 1955, WBC has taken forth the precious from the vile, and so is as the mouth of God (Jer. 15:19). In 1991, WBC began conducting peaceful demonstrations opposing the fag lifestyle of soul-damning, nation-destroying filth." AMEN! I bet they support your amendment. Thanks to their teachings and my upbringing I have formed my own beliefs and values. What else would I have to use?!?! Its not like some magical system of worldwide networking exists giving people access to information from every corner of the globe highlighting 1000s of cultures and belief systems. I ONLY HAVE MY CHURCH AND MY PARENTS TO TELL ME WHATS WHAT. You would get along great with these people, look them up.

A specific piece of information. Any specific piece of information. What have you read? What have you heard? What have you witnessed? Give me any example. Anything that demonstrates that you have given the subject more than 5 seconds worth of actual thought, research and analysis. Without that there is no possibilty of discussion and I have no idea why you're bothering to post. It's like saying "I believe the government is being run by aliens." Why? "Stuff I've learned during life." Ok, dude, whatever. Alright, lets see about 2 years ago I watched an interview I believe it was for Chick Publications, and yes they are a christian org. where a homosexual man gave his life story to that point. In that he talked about "thinking" he was born gay and living a gay lifestyle. Through a series of events in his life and counseling he nows considers himself to be a heterosexual man and doesn't now hold to the belief any longer that he/nor anyone was born gay. I have heard and gone to watch other such testimonies of people that at one point in their lives believed they were born gay,but through different events came to the same conclusion. I will try and find that DVD if I can. Like I said I believe it was Chick pub. not sure though but will do a little research. Gotta love it.

I am sure a lot of you have seen this video before. I thought the song fit pretty well so I re-dubbed it. Crazy ass pilot. That's one time when you ride the plane down and people think you have bigger balls than if you jumped out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4shXHg9NJ60&feature=youtu.be

"Hating on them" not "Hating them" Your reading comprehension could use a little polishing. "Hating on them" as in advocating passing amendments to the constitution that would make them less equal than everyone else simply because you disagree with them. Use in a sentence: Bignugget was hating on women when he advocated passing an amendment removing their right to own property and vote after a discussion with Promise5.

Personally, I think the government should get completely out of the marriage business. There should be no special treatment awarded to anyone just because they are married. The government should issue civil unions to cover the legal stuff relating to medical treatment, survivor benefits and whatnot. If you want to get married in a certain church that is your own business and should have nothing to do with the government. That being said, until that comes to pass (which I doubt it ever will) then you can’t treat one group differently from another. If the laws are changed for everyone then great but for now, same sex couples are being discriminated against. I honestly just wanted to hear promise5 come right out and say that my mother doesn’t deserve the same rights that she does. People like that want to restrict the rights of others just because they don’t like their lifestyle. To me that is disgusting and goes against what this country is supposed to stand for. The part that bothers me the most is that people like her think of themselves as patriots and believe they are trying to save this country. It truly is no better than those that opposed the civil rights movement. This I agree with, right down the line. However, there is one thing in your post where I think we disagree with some others. You mention "survivor benefits". I get the idea from rehmwa and ManagingPrime that they think that married couples (of any combinations of genders) should be treated as two completely separate individuals. That means no such thing as survivorship benefits. If you and your spouse buy a house together, when you die if you leave your share in the house to your spouse they will have to treat it as taxable income. If you or your spouse decide to take a few years off of work to raise the kids, it'll cost whoever takes the time off big time because they won't be contributing to their individual retirement, and they won't be able to rely on their spouse's pension to make up the difference. Whatever you do, don't have any joint bank accounts, because if you or your spouse should die everything will be tied up until you can prove, to the dollar, exactly how much you put in vs how much is the estate of the deceased. If you have kids, once they turn 18 they'll be adults not dependants. If you decide to help them out by paying for college, they'll have to treat your payment of their tuition and expenses as income. Also be prepared to spend big bucks for a lawyer to draft up lots of different contracts so your spouse can make medical or financial decisions for you, should you become incapacitated. I have no idea what legal web would be generated to enable you both to make decisions regarding kids, if the legal relationship between you and your spouse would be assumed to be exactly the same as the relationship between you and a complete stranger from the next county. Don Exactly. That is what they are saying. Those are "entitlements" that single people do not enjoy. Of course all the points you raised are the reasons WHY there is recognition of couples under the law. Some people argue that adding more people to that pool is irresponsible, and since we can't stop heteros from marrying, we can at least keep the gays from gaming the system.

Ironically, I was watching UFC 158 last night. In the post fight press conference someone asked George St. Pierre how he felt about all the trash talk and attitude of his opponent leading up to and during the fight. He replied (paraphrasing) We all come from different upbringings. We all walk different roads. But to be in the UFC is one of the toughest things someone can accomplish, and it takes great sacrifice. So I respect every single fighter, because to me they have all sacrificed and worked very hard. I found the quote, "I always respect everybody who do this job, its a very tough sport that we are in. Its the UFC, they have the very best fighters in the world. And we all come from a different background, but to reach the point where we are in the UFC takes a lot of sacrifice. We all come from a different road and I highly respect everybody who fight in the UFC because that means they made a lot of sacrifice to be there and they work very hard" Simple, and perfectly said. GSP is a class act in my book and I would wager he doesn't support passing anti-gay legislation (though hes not american) What I took away from it was, we are all different, and people won't always fit our cookie cutter. But they have walked a long hard road in life just like everyone else. So stop hating on them, embrace them as brothers and sisters of your race.

Ok...add "and the bible" to all my statements with daddies in there. Plenty of daddies and the bible said it was ok to own slaves Plenty of daddies and the bible said it was ok to beat women and children Plenty of daddies and the bible said it was ok to beatup/kill gay people Daddy and the bible doesn't always know best. -------- You don't know when/how/why people chose to be gay. But you are quite certain they do chose it even after supposed conversations with gay friends who indicated they did not chose to be gay. You don't have any reason that gay people should be denied the same benefits as everyone else. You don't have any reason why you even hold the stance beyond the bible and your upbringing. Where in the world is the open mindedness I am missing?
-
I think you do. I don't know everyone. You can not articulate a point beyond its how you were raised and so its what you believe. Plenty of people were raised to believe the world was flat. Even after Columbus and friends reported thats not really the way the world works. I bet they had an equally hard time articulating why they still believed that was valid. Running around yelling "this is what daddy said is right" doesn't hold much water when you step back and look at history. Plenty of daddies said it was ok to own slaves Plenty of daddies said it was ok to beat women and children Plenty of daddies said it was ok to beatup/kill gay people Daddy doesn't always know best. ETA: Your persecution is not direct I would wager, you don't go around beating up gay people. But you would support restricting their ability to gain recognition under the law for no reason other than you don't like it. That is indirectly persecuting them IMO.

Not sure about what his response would be, but mine would be something on the order of why would you hang around people who not only choose something you find to be unnatural, but they must be stupid too. It's way harder to be gay (or transgender) than it is to be straight. Especially if you're a guy, you have to wonder if each guy you come on to is going to kick the shit out of you because he's not gay after all. It's completely acceptable to share about your heterosexual relationship anywhere; show pictures, wear a ring, whatever. It's perfectly acceptable to flirt mildly with someone of the opposite gender -- if you're rebuffed, it's OK as long as it was mild. Now try that same mild flirting with someone of the same gender. I'm not gay, never have been. But I have a relative who's transgender, and no one decides all of a sudden, in high school no less. to go from being a successful boy to being a marginalized girl, because it's cool. Wendy P. Ah, now we are stupid because we chose to be friends. I guess when you don't understand something it's ok to attack someones intelligence. That's fine if that what you wish to do. I didn't know that I said this choice was made because it was "cool" or easy. Sometimes people don't know or understand the choices they make for themselves. No one was attacking your intelligence. Wendy was saying (correct me if I am wrong) that your friends must be stupid to make such an insanely stupid decision like being gay when it is one of the most difficult things to live out in our society today. You are constantly persecuted and judged by small minded individuals who think you CHOSE to be persecuted for fun. Its like making the decision to have tourettes. Why would you do that? That would be fuckin dumb. Now I do recall from the jobs thread that wendy is a rocket scientist, those cats are pretty smart.

Thanks for clarifying. Why do you have friends that lie to you though? If its a choice and they tell you its not, they are obviously lying to you...I wouldn't hang out with people that lie to my face, just some words of advice. People can and do see things differently and not be as you would say "lying to each other". We see this issue differently and still have a friendship. I don't know why it seems hard for people to accept that. I guess we don't have to only be friends with people that see everything the exact same way we do. Enough pissing into the wind for me. Enjoy the tiny world you live in.

Do you remember when you chose to be straight (presumably)? I don't but I drink and do some recreational drugs on occasion.

Lol. They told you they chose to be gay? Probably because it was so easy socially right? Nice.

Maybe you should sit down with his son and have some conversations. The dude realized his close minded views had no place in reality when someone he loved turned out to contradict the close minded stance. He realized his son was much more important than denying people who love each other the recognition everyone else enjoys simply because they are both boys or both girls. As others have said, in 50 years this will seem as bigoted and hateful as having "colored' drinking fountains, and little kids learning about it in school will be wondering what in the world all the fuss was about in denying these people the same benefits everyone else enjoys.
-
You get no argument from me. Lets take away all those entitlements from married couples, and allow gay people to get married. You might make some married people angry stripping those entitlements away from them but I don't care...im single. If 2 people who love each other can get married I am cool with that even if it means they don't get tax exemptions or the "entitlement" of deciding how best to care for their incapacitated loved one. I like that framing. We can't let gay people get married because it would give them entitlements that unmarried people don't have, and we can't take away hetero married couples entitlements just to give someone else the ability to marry. Some sort of twisted circle of logic.

Umm....in the other thread we know what makes the conservatives dumb....its the fact that one of them voted repeatedly against gay rights, until his son told him he was gay.....thats pretty fuckin dumb. You didn't provide an example like that, so he asked.
