No more than you anyways.

Now you have two things to learn, skydiving and swimming. Agreed. Regardless of skydiving, everyone should really know how to swim. It could save your life one day. Treading water is easy, just ride a bike underwater and use your hands to create some side to side waves to keep you stable and afloat.

WTF, I didn't realize I knew you IRL. How did you know about that??

"seller" does not want to refund my money
Bignugget replied to jkdrummerboyee's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Hahah just a side note. You wouldn't believe the people who buy cars in the way you just described. Trust me, its an easy 50/50 mix between those who do and don't research what you mentioned. -
Yea I see that. Very interesting. How does it work? Are they state employees? They get benefits that state workers get? That would seem like the best liquor store job ever if so. In my neighborhood I am pretty sure none of the liquor store employees would qualify to work for the State, and I would wager there are no full-time benefits. I had no idea the state runs liquor stores. Learn something new every day.
-
Very interesting. I imagine it wouldn't be hard to get the state to back the cop up in that case.
-
What makes you say the store is ran by the state? The information on the video says "ABC Liquor Store"...The state runs the liquor stores in North Carolina? To your point about the large number of black people he could take his racism out on.....they didn't piss him off. Maybe hes not a racist, but I am pretty sure he wouldn't come grab the iced tea out of my moms hand when shes standing outside talking to her friends.

From a probable cause standpoint (i.e., right then and there at the scene), you have to take it on a case by case basis. The officer looks at the totality of the specific circumstances. Something like a posted no-trespass sign would be one example that would seem to fill the bill. (There could be lots of other examples, too, but I'm trying to be concise.) But that's only at the arrest phase. Then the state has to make the charges stick in court. In most states, in order for trespass charges to stick in court, the premises owner (or occupying tenant) has to testify to the defendant's non-permission to be or remain there. That's it in simplified form. Thanks, always best to keep it simple for a guy with a My Little Pony avatar.

I know you are a lawyer, curious if you can shed light on a question.... When the cop decides to arrest him, he knows he can't arrest him for drinking alcohol since hes already seen the can. So he starts talking about trespassing, obviously something he can arrest on. My question is, can police independently determine trespassing without the property/business owner saying the person is in fact unwelcome? For instance can police come up to my mom and demand she leave 'fabrics and things' parking lot for trespassing, while my aunt owns the store and obviously wouldn't want my mom trespassed off the property? Any insight?
-
You think your mom gets treated that way by that cop? Honestly?
-
There could be alcohol in any drink.....that does not give some asshole plain clothes cop the right to go up and demand your wife hands over her mc donalds iced tea so he can pour it out.....does it? Of course the problem is the asshole has a gun and could easily murder those 2 black guys and get away with it. So they are forced to choose between some civil rights violations or getting killed.

From the comments: "Someone with a duck cam is crying at home.." Hahaha. That was a sick ass video though, that thing accelerated like crazy, awesome accuracy.

Just to throw mine in. I sent a letter as well to my senator, Claire McCaskill. I have to say I have sent several other notes on issues, and have always gotten an issue specific letter back pertaining to my concerns.... Here is the response I received: April 26, 2013 Dear Mr. XXXX Thank you for contacting me about aviation user fees. I appreciate hearing from you and welcome the opportunity to respond. As you may know, many airport services are funded by the Airport and Airway Trust Fund, which is funded by fees and taxes charged within the aviation system. However, revenue to the Trust Fund often falls short of providing full funding for important aviation services, such as air traffic control and capital improvements for airport and airways systems. To address shortfalls, Congress often makes up the differences with general taxpayer revenue. According to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the Airport and Airway Trust Fund provided about 69% of the funding required for Fiscal Year 2011. In these fiscally constrained times, it is not clear that Congress will or can act to make up shortfalls, such as that experienced in fiscal year 2011, in future fiscal years. Accordingly, to address future shortfalls, some aviation stakeholders have proposed implementing a new aviation user fee. The new aviation user fee that has been discussed would be a fee charged to airlines based on the number of takeoffs and landings a plane requires through its journey. Proponents of this user fee say that it better approximates the level of air traffic control services used by an aircraft than does existing fuel and ticket taxes, which are the current primary sources of revenue for the Trust Fund. In 2008, the Bush Administration first proposed implementing such a user fee, and, most recently, the Obama Administration proposed a $100 per flight fee payable by aviation operators who fly in controlled airspace. Military aircraft, public aircraft, air ambulances, and recreational piston aircraft would be exempted. I understand that for some aviation stakeholders, especially those in general aviation, these user fees would increase the cost of flying and impose challenging processing requirements. Some have suggested raising aviation fuel taxes in lieu of implementing such a user fee. Fundamentally, as we consider ways to reform how aviation services are funded in order to ensure the health, sustainability and vitality of the aviation system in this era of scarce resources but increasing demands, it is important that we strike the right balance between making sure that users of the aviation system reasonably contribute to its maintenance and maintaining our vibrant aviation industry without unfairly burdening its users. I continue to encourage stakeholders to pursue this balance. You may be interested to know that in February, 2012, the FAA Modernization and Reform Act (P.L.112-95), which authorized Federal aviation programs through 2015, was signed into law. The new law will provide long-term certainty for the aviation industry and stakeholders and implement much-needed reforms for our air traffic system. The reauthorization did not include new aviation user fees. Please know, I will continue to keep your views in mind when proposals to reform aviation financing come before the Senate for consideration. Again, thank you for contacting me. Please do not hesitate to contact me in the future if I can be of further assistance to you on this or any other issue. Sincerely, Claire McCaskill So there it is.

Food Stamp for Cash exchange in an 'emergency'- morality question?
Bignugget replied to Iago's topic in Speakers Corner
EBT cards are just like debit or pre-paid credit cards. There's a set balance on them, the cashier runs it through the machine and you are good to go. (EBT stands for "Electronic Balance Transfer") I don't know if they are registered to the proper user (as in "needs to show an ID to use it), but just like a CC, lost or stolen ones can be shut down with a phone call. So I don't believe it would encourage theft. But I fully agree that it's most likely a welfare scam. Selling food stamps for cash to spend it on stuff they aren't supposed to. Only with this scam, the welfare "fraudster" accompanies you through the checkout and pays for your stuff, you then give them cash money to blow on booze, cigarettes, drugs, gasoline, whatever. ^^^^ This. -
Food Stamp for Cash exchange in an 'emergency'- morality question?

I hear your frustration. But the companies you are speaking of that are winning out in the Google search for "stratostars DZ" and getting all the other 'crap'...to me says that the other companies ARE spending money on advertising. That's how Google works. You pay for the ad words and all kinds of other marketing they will sell you, and that will help get YOUR name to the top of the list, instead of "slyride" which I am assuming is some sort of scam from the way its described.... So while I hear and somewhat understand why you are upset about these guys stepping on your coin, you have to understand they spent money to do it, and that's capitalism. So go outbid them on their ad words, get your DZ to the top of the list, and sit back and laugh all the way to the bank.

Yeah.... I'm scratching my.... head. Nice to see you again! I think its all about who you know (or blow) -
All good advice. I did 3 hours across 5 days in Feb, doing another 3 hours across 4 days in May. That is my limit for awhile, I was pretty wasted at the end of the Feb trip. I had 17 jumps and 0 tunnel time, I got comfy on my belly, stable and comfy on my back, sit flying but not very stable, and transitions back/sit, belly/sit, back/belly I would say if you are already pretty solid on your belly and want to JUST to freefly you could get to sit in 2 hours. I wanted to develop my belly as well so we spent a bit more time on it than I "needed' for tunnel safety....which is why as mentioned they want you to be able to bail to your back as well. Anyways like he said, its addictive! And get coaching!

This. I tried putting stripper's kids through college but I was still left with too much spending money at the end of the day.

As I am sure has probably been mentioned...its usually never a good idea to loan money to friends and family. Personal and business relationships are best kept separate in my exp. So that being said I would say you were plenty justified not loaning him money (even if he was a friend you were in recent contact with). Him coming out of the blue and starting the conversation that way is a dick move on his part IMO. I would have told him the same thing. Just think, if he is asking you (dude he hasnt talked to in several years) for money....how big of a POS is he? He can't get ANYONE who currently knows him to loan him money.....thats a sign.
