100th jump any suggestions?
ChileRelleno replied to ripcords's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
OK, so you won't go naked, round, or with any extras packed along for the ride.... Spoilsport! Good suggestions already given Hulahoop ( do the SCSA), SCR, and SCS. Hows'bout Raft, tube (human tube), Magic Carpet Ride (need tailgate), HornyGorilla, BFR (see SCR/SCS if enough people), Put you in the middle of star and see how many you can dock on and kiss, ect ect... Recent Para Commander Jumps?
ChileRelleno replied to freefaller76's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
I had the pleasure of jumping some vintage gear just last month 04/24 while visiting Skydive Wayne County in Richmond,IN. I jumped a military surplus B-12 H/C with a 28 Jumbo ParaCommmander, belly wart reserve with a 28 Navy Conical. The jump was a three way round which we did as for a Rodriguez Brothers initiation jump and was way too much fun!!!!! There are alot of old timers and folks who jump vintage gear there and every year at the Richmond Boogie they do all round loads, plenty of vintage gear in their loft. alot of the younger up-jumpers were telling me I was "CRAZY!" and that the gear was dangerous, that the opening/landing would be very hard, ect ect..... The opening/landing was brisk but not hard and the rest of the up-jumpers tales of foreboding were just a matter of tall tales and hype. As for date of manufacture and airworthiness its all a matter of proper care and maintenance of gear. The date of manufacture on the reserve was 1957, I personally got to see the rigger A.I.R the chute and I trust the rigger because he jumps the gear too, if he or any other rigger familiar with such gear says its airworthy then I'm good to go with it. To answer your question there is alot of jumpable vintage gear out there and folks who jump it -

I'm 245-250lbs geared up and out the door. I jump a 210 Hornet and a 210 Tempo. I just had the pleasure of jumping a vintage 28ft jumbo ParaCommander and the opening and landing were much softer than I was led to believe. BigBoys can and do become skydivers, though you may have to really chase the dream to find a place to train (Hint, Goldcoast will train your jumbo butt) and acquire gear. Let me add here that any jumper attempting to snug/seat their pop-top in the field should been instructed by their rigger how to do this properly so as to avoid excessive pull force for reserve deployment. If your gonna do it, do it right or find a rigger. ChileRelleno-Rodriguez Bro#414 Hellfish#511,MuffBro#3532,AnvilBro#9, D24868

As y'all will see I've 400 odd jumps and ten years in the sport. I did 50+ jumps right off the bat (6 months) and then fell on hard times (I got married and hence broke). I spent a good 6.5 - 7 years barely staying current, like one or two jumps every other month and I lost currency a couple of times due to non-skydiving related injuries. Times got better and aprox 2 years ago I bought gear and have been jumping any freakin chance I get . Anyway's.............. Three times while a B license and very un-current, instructors went over procedures on the ground and then let me hop-n-pop. In every instance the instructors made the call according to their judgment of my knowledge and attitude, they told me as much. I also jump a Reflex, I've had lines snag lightly around the pop-top walking back from the LZ, just catching the lip not snagged "under", I've never had PC material sticking out and always are able to get a solid seating of the pop-top. A great thing about the Reflex is the ability of the jumper to snug/seat the pop-top in the field themselves Any rigger that would balk at fixing so sloppy packjob as to cause serious concerns does not need to be rigging IMHO. I've been lucky I guess with riggers cause I always had great packjobs on my reserve. Only four riggers have packed it and my first question was how familiar with the Reflex were they, and I carry the reserve manual in case I need a repack from someone who's not while on the road or at a boogie. As mentioned by others I've seen too many pop-tops not seated properly just waiting to snag something. I always bring this to the jumpers attention and usually it is just shrugged off or I'm told "Its always like that.". I think three out of more than a dozen or so have actually paid heed and gotten it fixed immediately, if its a Reflex it takes minutes to remedy unless the reserve pack job was crap to begin with. The potential for serious problems that are ignored by those who blow it off scare the bejeezus out of me. I've no eye-witness snag stories but I hope I've helped prevent some possibles. OK, I know some of you folks were waiting to see this and its finally been posted on their website. the actual article includes more photos so if there's a truckstop near you see if they carry the mag and check it out. http://www.etrucker.com/apps/news/article.asp?id=43653 The article is very positive and encouraging to those who might be interested in our sport and overall I'm pleased with it. Some things were mis-qouted or out of context and the quality of the writing left a little to be desired, some sentence structure and punctuation was poor but what the heck alot of truckers won't know the difference or care ChileRelleno-Rodriguez Bro#414 Hellfish#511,MuffBro#3532,AnvilBro#9, D24868 -
Do you take care of your rigger?
ChileRelleno replied to karenmeal's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
As I understand the rules its a bottle or dinner of their choice. Both of my saves were by the same rigger and he turned down either, he said he was just doing what he is supposed to do and the fact that I'm alive due to his work is reward enough. The offer will always be made to any rigger who saves my arse. ChileRelleno-Rodriguez Bro#414 Hellfish#511,MuffBro#3532,AnvilBro#9, D24868 -

My family and I went up to Illinois to visit my folks, didn't take my gear and it was nasty cold and windy up there anyways. We had a very good time visiting and hanging out, my mother hadn't seen my son in two years, though I get thru there every other month or so while working. They're in the middle of Illinois largest Amish community and its a rather small town and very quite, such a nice change. We're home now and I go back to work tomorrow, time to get those 18 wheels a rolling! ChileRelleno-Rodriguez Bro#414 Hellfish#511,MuffBro#3532,AnvilBro#9, D24868

My first chop was at Goldcoast on 05/16/97, it was my 71st jump. Description, I had a premature container opening resulting in a horseshoe mal. I was doing a two way in which we were doing backloops in between transitions, at aprox 10,000ft I felt something strange as I completed a backloop, looking over my shoulder I could see my D- bag lifting off and extending lines. I tossed my PC and hoped it would deploy normally (yeah right). It deployed looking nothing like a parachute, I was now at 8.5-8 upright in the harness. I didn't want to chop it that high because of all the swamps and forest around, not to mention the winds were kicking pretty good. At 7. it started to spin, quick as snot it was more twisted than Micheal Jackson, Chop-Chop! Slow ride on a 26ft LO-PO (round), I landed on the airfield and PLF'd, the landing was sooo soft I could have stood it up. Mike Brown got a kiss (yeah, so I kissed my rigger... he just saved my life) and dinner. Malfunction cause was never nailed down, throw-out PC was still in its pud, closing loop was in good condition and not to long and my fellow jumper gear checked me and did not see any loose bridle in freefall. Happy Birthday PJ!!! And good job dealing with your first reserve ride! Nobody could've done any better, I bet that got your juices flowing. Who packed that reserve? If it was Mike Brown then you need to buy him dinner since he doesn't drink, as for Lightning I'm not sure. C'ya around... ChileRelleno-Rodriguez Bro#414 Hellfish#511,MuffBro#3532,AnvilBro#9, D24868

You need to tell her that the money would be better spent helping you keep your learning curve up which would help your comprehension and retention of training hence enabling you to be a "SAFER" skydiver. Or something like that. When I first started jumping I thought my mother would be overly concerned. But she came down to the DZ one day and was so relaxed I had to question her, She said "Oh no, its better than you running around getting in trouble ect... And I can see that the training is thorough and the instructors are sooo nice.". I was flabbergasted to say the least. Its obvious your mother loves you, perhaps in the future she'll come to terms and perhaps even support your decision if not tolerate it. Remember to keep your eyes/ears open, brain fully engaged and your mouth asking questions, good luck with your AFF. ChileRelleno-Rodriguez Bro#414 Hellfish#511,MuffBro#3532,AnvilBro#9, D24868

I jump a Hornet 210 loaded at aprox 1.2, I've practiced flares, floating and turns with my rears (risers) and turns and dives with my fronts. I'm pretty comfortable with my knowledge of how my canopy responds to such input. In the event that I would be thinking about using such input for controling/landing a damaged/malfunctioning main canopy then I would do a controllabilty check and if there was time practice the input. Any doubt, whip it out! A favorite sport accuracy approach of mine involves floating on the rears when slighty short with a quick transition to toggles for flare, this has helped make me comfortable with the idea of landing using rears, I already know how much input and how slow I can approach with'em.
