Choice of exit on hop-n-pop: poised or unpoised?
chuckbrown replied to wildchild's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I used to love diving out of the door on a hop & pop and dumping on the hill. You're still dumping with the relative wind, only you're on your head. -
You're lucky. I've seen blown up canopies, followed by cutaways from not properly setting the slider. Get into a packing routine and never deviate from it. That way when you're hurried, you'll follow your routine by muscle memory. BSBD.

suddenly a majestic voice comes from the crowd... *A duck!* Exactly. So... logically ... If she ... weighs the same as a duck ... she's made of wood.. And therefore? A witch!

Attaching an Aircrew Knife to cheststrap?
chuckbrown replied to Dave1216's topic in Canopy Relative Work
Ditto what Mike said. Please don't take that in the air. -
Uh .... Ron, dude, you forgot to mention the fact that SH was trying to build a WMD capacity for over 20 years. Not to mention attacking four countries in the Middle East.

That statement does a tremendous disservice to the men who went to Vietnam. Most were there, not because they believed in the cause, but because they were drafted. Considering the fact that most of our troops were fighting against what were considered to be the best light infantry in the world, I'd say the Vietnam draftees were some of the best soldiers our country has fielded. I have to go back and see if I can get a pass for Bridge Day now.

More like the entire western world trying to register.

Well I do. I got them on my new G4 last summer and love them for the convenience. No hopping around trying to get in to your rig. I also wingsuit quite a bit and its great taking the legstraps off after landing without having to remove the wingsuit. It is seen as a bit old school but will probably some day in the future come back into vogue. P.t.L Ditto. I LOVE the B-12s on my Infinity. Makes getting in & out of the rig extremely easy.

"Compressed Cabin" theory is not based on PHYSICS.
chuckbrown replied to diverdriver's topic in Safety and Training
This link for the ejected jumper connects to a report regarding a jump plane crash caused by contaminated fuel. You're absolutely right though. Seat belts are mandatory, not just from a legal perspective, but, more importantly, from a safety perspective. -
To be real honest, I was very afraid on my first jump. When I stepped off the plane there was about 2-3 seconds of sensory overload and then I was in freefall (AFF). I couldn't believe how beautiful it was!!!!! I fell in love with skydiving right then & there. Just relax. You're going into an alien environment, but you will really enjoy things once you're there. My only regret was taking so long to start jumping. Don't worry about breathing; you'll have no problems.

What, getting locked out of two threads wasn't good enough? Seriously though, this piece is pretty pathetic insofar as it portrays Muslims in a very poor light. Our problem isn't with Muslims per se, it's with some fucking creeps who're using the Koran as justification to cut the heads off of innocent people.

How would you feel if your rigger smoked dope?
chuckbrown replied to Perche61's topic in Gear and Rigging
You don't have an entry for "I don't smoke, but I don't care what my rigger does on his own time." BTW, my rigger doesn't drink or smoke, but that's not why I use him. I use him because he's an excellent rigger. -
Didn't PLF when trying to land a canopy that got damaged in a CRW wrap. OK, that's 2 stupid things. Now I have lots of metal in my ankle and have refined my PLF to a fine art.

SH being gone is a good thing. Us commiting ground forces for a decade and alienating the rest of the world wasn't worth it. So it's ok for the POTUS to wing it when dealing with war. That's beautiful. Yes, we should have done this 12 years ago. I don't think Bush was "winging it." SH openly financed terrorists (paying suicide bombers) and provided a safe haven for an AQ branch (Ansar al Islam), attempted to assassinate one POTUS, repeatedly demonstrated the desire to develop a WMD capacity (irrespective of what stage of development WMD SH actually acheived), and attacked 4 nations (Iran, Kuwait, Israel & Saudia Arabia) in an already volitile region. Sure the intel on WMD was "tenous" but Bush was right to do this. IMHO.
-
AQ would never attack the internet. It's their main source of publicity.

I don't recall Clinton launching an invasion of Iraq based on that intel. If he did, I would blame him too. No, but he did launch some massive airstrikes. Bush & Clinton both committed military force against Iraq. Taking out SH was the right thing to do, irrespective of whether Bush's justifications were a little tenuous.
