I think Kobe is silly for not picking a chick with a nicer ass. Maybe he hangs with Sir MixALot. "I like big butts ..."

This is a great rule. Doesn't surprise me at all coming from Perris; a very safety conscious DZ. Altitude awareness is probably the number one rule in skydiving (after pulling, but you can't penalize someone for not following that rule) and it needs to be continually stressed to students and experienced jumpers alike. I recently had to tell a student not to come back to my DZ because he wasn't able to maintain altitude awareness. He had multiple instances of low pulls, including one that fired the AAD (all while on student status). I felt bad about banning the student but the alternative was worse. This sport isn't for everybody and it definitely isn't worth dying for.

"Iraq is lost" - Wall Street Journal Reporter Farnaz Fassihi
chuckbrown replied to AdD's topic in Speakers Corner
Ask the Brits. I think the SAS did a pretty good job on the communist terrorists in Malaysia, as well as against the IRA. In Vietnam, the VC were largely destroyed during the Tet Offensive; after 1968 the war in South Vietnam was fought almost exclusively by NVA regular army troops. -
Did John Kerry get a less than honorable discharge?
chuckbrown replied to chuckbrown's topic in Speakers Corner
Interesting article in the New York Sun which speculates that when John Kerry was originally discharged from the Navy he didn't receive an honorable discharge; probably as the result of meeting with the North Vietnamese in Paris while he was still in the Navy. The article opines that Kerry didn't actually receive an honorable discharge until the Carter Administration when a panel of Navy officers changed his discharge to honorable. I guess this is why he won't release his full records. It also would explain why his medals were reissued by Reagan's Secretary of the Navy John Lehman; the medals would have been revoked by a less than honorable discharge. But who cares what happened 30 years ago. -
Sure it was. The original 'windowpane' referred to acid on a paper carrier, 4 hits that could be slpit 4 ways. Usually had a faint line to divide the hits, looked kinda likea windowpane. Michael Tomorrows history lesson will be the Bufo Alvarus (Sonoran Desert or Colorodo River Toad) and modern social prediciment. Michael I think he meant they were around in the '70s and beyond. I seem to recall them in the '80s. I think.

You don't need any of those things for an off DZ jump. If the landing zone is not a Level 2 or Stadium jump, you don't need a PRO rating. You only need a commercially licensed pilot if he's taking money for the flight. A commercial license isn't required to permit a parachutist to leave your aircraft. You CAN get out of a regular Cessna without jump mods. It's been done many, many times. You WILL need to file a NOTAM and possibly a 7711-2. But you're right, President's best bet is to jump at the DZ. For now. Keep up the enthusiasm President.

If you like Zeppelin: The Rain Song Over the Hills & Far Away Black Mountain Side Those are a good start

No, your backyard can be a GO, if you have the skill set to safely land there & you file a FAA form 7711-2 (and the local FSDO approves it).

Two reasons: 1) I *love* canopy rides and 2) want to practice no-altitude-loss turns, stalls, slow flight etc. Oh baby, do I hear a Crew Dog barking to get out! Perris usually does a beginner CRW camp in July, IIRC.

Brownie. Energy bar. What's the difference? It's all good. -
1. The Song Remains the Same 2. No Quarter 3. Dazed & Confused I saw the first 2 live (1977). They didn't play D&C that tour.

If you don't follow the proper procedures and file a 7711-2 (and adhere to the conditions), the following will likely happen: 1. The FAA will discipline the pilot for allowing you to jump over a congested area/open air assembly of persons without the proper authority. 2. The property owner will file a trepassing complaint because they never permitted you to jump into the area. You'll probably be arrested on the spot. Disorderly conduct isn't out of the question either. 3. The police will confiscate your equipment as evidence, and may forfeit it as property used in the commission of a crime. 4. The school doesn't have to permit you to participate in graduation exercises. They will give you your diploma, but you may not get it on stage. Enjoy the graduation. There's plenty of time to jump.

I have a half shell & it has saved my head from being cracked open. Sounds like a good deal.

What happens when you get a speeding ticket in your state?
chuckbrown replied to sunshine's topic in The Bonfire
In PA you're not even required to carry a driver's license while driving. If you're stopped by a cop you have 48 hours to produce your license. If you get a ticket and don't pay, you'll definitely lose your license. -
Touche. That was good. But seriously, he's on the list because he gave to Muslim charities, some of which have (allegedly) been linked to suicide bombings. I think the no-fly list should be for those who present a security risk. Giving your money away is the same as expressing your first amendment right of freedom of association (and speech); no really a security risk. I'm pretty conservative, but I will agree that Ashcroft is a little over the line. Giving your money away to someone or an organization that you reasonably believe will use it to fund criminal enterprise (including murder and terrorism) is conspiracy, and is punishable. -Jeffrey I think you need to have proof of such knowledge or belief. It's called due process & it still exists.

Excellent advice. If 2,500 looks too low, don't look down. It's much easier that way.
-
Absolutely. Anytime the door opens to let someone out low, I'm ready to exit. This is a prime example of why.

Should "hook" turns be banned at demos?
chuckbrown replied to hottamaly's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Somewhere and you'll have to give ma a bit on finding this again is a set of rules about how you may not make manuvers on a demo jump that exceede x degrees of pitch, and y degrees of roll, under a specific altitude. Often ignored, I'll see if my memory is serving me well and can find it. Hook turns are "recommended" prohibitions in an FAA document simply called "8700" which governs aviation events. It's the same document that "recommends" CRW formations be broken down by a certain altitude. That is unless you're a "DOD-sanctioned" team. These prohibitions are generally included in all 7711 waivers, but, theoretically, you might be able to get the local FSDO to not include it on the waiver. If you look at the language of the document, it seems to give the FSDO some discretion in the matter. If you do a search on the FAA site for "8700" you'll probably link to it. I have it on pdf, but it's a pretty big file. Edited to add: Hook turns on a demo are pretty stupid. What better way to promote the sport. The biggest killer of skydivers today are hook turns. -
I would agree wholeheartedly. But for much different reasons.

You could always set up a "No name entered" profiles and then tell us. My opinion is that younger (18-25) guys in Japanese cars and older (25-40) women in SUVs are the biggest pains the ass on the road. I dated a woman in her late 30s who was always in accidents because she was in too much of a hurry & too busy yakking on the cell.

Because Florida like every other state in the US requires candidates to circulate nomination petitions to give a candidate access to the ballots. Perhaps the other parties didn't get enough signatures to get their candidates on the ballots, while Nader did. Being from Philly (and as bright as you are) I know that you know Nader just got kicked off the Pennsylvania ballot because of challenges to his nominating petitions raised by the Democrats (who, by the way, were unashamedly public about their opposition to Nader's presence on the ballot).
