Go to the New York Times web site. Every morning I look at an ad talking about buying GWB a bus ticket back to TX. Same story different players. (Knowing my luck it's probably not there today -- left wing conspiracy to attack my credibility on DZ.com no doubt).

Bush: Seeking new ways to harm the country
chuckbrown replied to craichead's topic in Speakers Corner
Until either party is able to have enough votes to closure (sp?) a filibuster, you can't really say they have control of the legislative branch. On the point of the judiciary though, the Ds learned how to block judicial nominees from the Rs during the Clinton years. BTW, you need 60 votes to block a filibuster; so the Rs don't "control" the legislature and just because Al Gore lost in the Supreme Court doesn't mean the Rs "control" the judiciary. -
I think as long as they don't start spouting politics during their concerts, who cares about their political views. People pay to see a musician make music, not wax political. I hope they keep politics off the stage.

It sounds like your drinking club has a skydiving problem.

Well, that's from NIH, and this is from University of Alaska Fairbanks: Hmmmmmm .... NIH, UA Fairbanks .... NIH, UA Fairbanks ......

How often do you _not_ hit the "post" button?
chuckbrown replied to TomAiello's topic in The Bonfire
I don't know about the frequency, but I don't post after writing for the reason that either I'm not contributing anything significant or I know another poster will provide better info. -
I was out for 7 months because of a broken ankle. My return jump was on my regular gear (Triathlon 175 loaded at 1.4). I had several hundred jumps on the canopy and was very familiar with its flight characteristics.

Demonstration jumps ......
chuckbrown replied to chuckbrown's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
If anybody uses a written agreement when they do demos, I'd like to get a copy. I could write my own, but why reinvent the wheel? Plus, considering the experience of the demo jumpers who post here, I'm sure they've run into issues that I can't think of. I'm just looking to reduce the engagement to writing. That way everybody knows what they're buying and selling. If you think that written agreements turn prospective clients off, tell me that. Thanks. -
Demonstration jumps ......
chuckbrown replied to chuckbrown's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Does anybody have a contract that they use for demonstration jumps that I could use? Thanks. -
Errr, ummm, it starts Thursday the 29th. C'ya there.

As long as you remember to pull out the door.

The last I heard Navajos are not any of the Apache tribes. This one's probably too recent to get snoped.

That I would agree with. Never the less, it doesn't change the fact that we pursued terrorism as a law enforcement problem and have seen that policy fail miserably. On the other hand, military intervention has seriously damaged AQ and has removed 2 national regimes which supplied support to terrorist operations. War sucks, but sometimes there is no other choice. Survival. Kill or be killed.

Yes, Clinton, the absentee candidate for the 2004 election. He gets brought up so much regarding the current race I think he might actually win it. I think you're conveniently ignoring the fact that Bill Clinton is generally to the right of most Democratic foreign policymakers and, therefore, in my opinion John Kerry would do only as much, if not much less, than Clinton would have. Democrats are pussies when it comes to foreign policy and the use of military force. We did shit in Afghanistan. We sent less troops to Afghanistan, the size of California, then there are cops in New York City. The Taliban has been regrouping, AQ is just as active as it's always been, but on the plus side we rejuvenated their opium trade. As far as Iraq is concerneed, it's too early to tell, but hopefully the puppets we installed as their temporary gov't aren't assassinated before they have free elections. What alternatives was it better than? I never heard of any alternatives besides war ever being considered. Reread your current events. We have replaced an out of control theocracy with a fledgling democracy. Perhaps you would have prefered that the Taliban have remained in power to supply a safe haven for AQ? As far as the Taliban, they are not "regrouping." They've been destroyed as a military and political force and are nothing more than a bunch of bandits. AQ rejuvenated? Most of their cadre of operators are now in Gitmo. The new AQ is made up of lower level hacks who are trying to resurrect AQ. Oh, by the way, I guess your right, the Taliban did outlaw opium, so I guess we should have left them and all the terrorist training camps alone. Alternatives to war????? We did have an alternative to war. Remember we didn't go after AQ or bin Laden when we had the chance. Why? Because we didn't have legal probable cause to pursue a criminal case. What did that get us? 3,000 fucking dead people, including some of my friends! This isn't the 60's. We don't have the luxury of "giving peace a chance." Sit back and do nothing, and they'll put a bomb in downtown Philly. How would you feel then when your friends die?!? You know if a Democrat had the balls to do what GWB did, you'd love it.
-
IIRC, the thread was not about what GWB has done for this country, but why vote for Kerry? I'm sure you noted the seriousness of my response. Personally, I think they're both asses. Lesser of two evils, I guess. I will say that GWB's responded to the war on terror better than I think a Democratic administration would have. All Clinton would have done was launch a couple of cruise missiles and worried about what our friends in Europe would think. Fuck 'em. War means war. We did a good job in Afghanistan and are on our way in Iraq. Sure it's messy, but IMHO the alternatives are worse. Pax Americana, baby. My .02.

I'll vote for him because Sandy Berger was his advisor on foreign policy matters. Oh yeah, and he got caught stuffing classified documents from the National Archives down his shorts. His lawyer assures us that it was inadvertent.

So that explains your husband's fascination with hair coloring products. Sorry, couldn't resist.

Hey, let's not forget about the rednecks who blew up the Oklahoma City Federal Building; the worst terrorist act in the US up to that time. The NW 327 story seems a little contrived to me.

Right now the plan is to be there Fri-Sun. And do the suicide run home on Monday.

Well, how about saying that Mike Lewis will be there organizing. I think he qualifies as "talent." Richmond was a great time last year.

BillVon's reply was right on. Do you want a door open during a take-off crash so that debris & flaming fuel can come pouring into the fuselage through an open door? I've jumped in 100 degree weather and can hang tough until 1,000 feet when the door gets opened to cool everyone off.

I believe the obstruction of justice was based on her trying to get witnesses to corroborate her version of events. The big issue was that she denied a phone call with her broker to sell after the FDA denial came out, instead claiming that she had a pre-existing stop loss order to sell when the shares reached a certain price. She's real lucky on the sentence though. The federal guidelines called for 10-16 months in jail.

Some good, neutral insites on politics...
chuckbrown replied to PhillyKev's topic in Speakers Corner
While I generally don't agree with PK's politics, I have to say that Larry Sabato (the author of the piece) is a pretty middle of the road observer. I wouldn't call him an idealogue by any stretch. -
Catching freebags and mains (was: ASC fatality)
chuckbrown replied to billvon's topic in Safety and Training
I don't think that's quite true. A skydiver doing something outside of what is considered by other skydivers as "safe" under the circumstances can be called "stupid." Say, for example, a jumper with 100 jumps downsizing from a 1:1 square to a 2:1 elliptical would probably be considered "stupid." I agree though, I don't see the distinction between a stupid person and a stupid decision other than a stupid decision means you're just stupid once (as opposed to being chronically stupid). Nothing implied against Nate Gilbert. IMHO, he just ran into bad luck.
