  1. This reminds me of one time I was working late at the office & thought everybody else had gone home. I let a juicy one rip. Then lo & behold one of the traders comes over to my office to ask a question. The look on his face as he stood in the office, then walked out and then walked back in, and then walked back out again was priceless. I still laugh about it today. He never said anything. It was just our little secret.
  2. Water jumps are pretty neat especially in the high summer when the humidity is obnoxious. Night water jumps are especially cool. My only advice, short of a thorough briefing, is to not lift your legs too high as you're coming in for a "water"ing. Or else the first thing that hits will be your 'nads.
  3. Is that Bryan Scott's watermark on your avatar?!?!? C'mon, spring for the money to get the file without one. Or better yet, just smile at Bryan and get it for free. BTW, I too got my avatar for free off the internet but it's not nearly as cool as yours. C'ya @ CSS in the spring.
  4. Save your money and go with the High Gear Summit. It's around $150 and will read altitude at 3 sec. intervals. I use one for CRW and I know of people who use it for freefall with no problems. It's got a big face, so it's easy to see.
  5. The big variable would be where you are and the composition of the jury pool. Generally speaking, rural juries are more likely to give the death penalty than are urban juries. In Pennsylvania, the difference in the jury pool between Philly & central PA, is night and day.
  6. Hey thanks! Merry Christmas to you too.
  7. What he said. Great guitars for the price.
  8. FWIW, I severely broke my ankle skydiving & my doctor told me I'd never jump again. Did I listen to him? No. But then again my doc wasn't Dave Newcomer, the skydiving surgeon, who would have given me different advice considering I've jumped with him after my accident. Anyway, I have 2 screws in the big bone and a titanium plate and 6 pins in the little bone (yeah it was a major break). I've put over 400 jumps on the ankle since it was broken & have had no problems. I wear nothing special other than athletic shoes w/o any ankle supports. Not to say that things can't happen, but if your hubby wants to jump, don't let his ankle stop him. Put it this way, if your hubby can run across rough ground without any problems, there's not much in skydiving that he can't handle. But tell him to know how to PLF!
  9. I'd HIGHLY recommend not doing side by sides & downplanes with HP canopies. But, hey, it's your choice. Having said that, to get into a side by side the bottom jumper pulls the top jumper all the way down and to a side (past the risers). Once both jumpers get good grips on each other's MLW, both apply slight outside toggle pressure to split the canopies. No need to lock legs. Heavy outside toggle pressure will just send you into any immediate downplane. Fly the side by side around and when you're ready to go into the down plane, each jumper gives the other the same leg (R or L). Hold on to the leg with both hands and enjoy the ride. You can also go into a downplane straight from a stack/plane. The bottom jumper pulls the top jumper straight down until the top's hands are at the 3 rings. The top spreads their legs while the bottom kicks their legs up to the top. The top should take a loose grip while the bottom turns to one side and pulls the canopy down to that side. Instant downplane. There's also the parabatic grip, but that's for another day... Edited for speling and to add that all inputs should be smooth and just sufficient to get the job done. Too hard of an input & you have the possibility of having an instant wrap. This is especially true if you want to try this with HP canopies (again NOT recommended). I've done CRW with HP canopies and they're very twitchy and unforgiving.
  10. Absolutely polluted with beautiful women!
  11. If you loved Spinal Tap, I highly recommend Fear of a Black Hat. It does to the rap scene what ST did to rock. Hilarious movie.
  12. He's the one with the smile on his face.
  13. A LOT more jumpers have been killed doing high performance landings than catching a cutaway main/freebag. BTW, I'm not endorsing catching a cutaway. It's dangerous, but then again a lot of skydiving is dangerous. Assess the risks and determine whether it's worth the risk.
  14. Something else has to be going on here. Sangiro seems to be pretty level-headed and Mike's comments were in no way offensive (just go over to Speaker's Corner -- no that's offensive). Banning Mike for the public post seems a little much. There must have been some PMs going back and forth. I guess it's over to crwchat then.
  15. Here, here. If a pie isn't good enough to eat the remnants off the ground while the victim is cleaning up, then it wasn't a worthy pie. I remember my pie for 500. It stuck to my face and I happily munched on the blueberry delight. Yummy. Bad pies suck.
  16. They do? Any crew dogs out there what to confirm this.? Sparky Dogs are a little smarter than that. Why would anyone want to put unnecessary wear and tear on a reserve?
  17. I think USPA also "recommends" 50 jumps, but like Mike said talk with a CRW Dog about doing a jump. Also keep your eyes open for a beginner's CRW camp, you can learn a lot from the people who teach them. I'd also recommend visiting Wendy's webpage for the reading material. Lots of good stuff. I think it's crw.boxofclue.com.
  18. Unfortunately you're right. I read an article recently about a guy who got busted for assault because he attacked his girlfriend when she said she was voting for Kerry. Pretty sad.
  19. What do you mean, they already have. Don't you remember the old "The The" song "The 51st State?"
  20. Avocados and guacamole rock! Yum, yum. BTW, next time you order guacamole, just think of the Exorcist. Tasty.
  21. That looks like a stunt. Static line chutes don't have pilot chutes (nor do reserves). And the distance he was trailing behind the plane was greater than the bridle length. Still, looked like a wild ride. Nice video. Edited to add: Hooknswoop informed me of the distinction between direct bag & PCA static lines. Thanks, Hook. Dixieflyer, you know what I meant. But thanks anyway.
  22. Yep, that's the one. Thanks for the info. The last time I saw a B-17 was about 6 years ago. We were on jump run and I looked out of the 182 and saw a B-17 flying down the Susquehanna River about 5,000 feet below us. Looking at those pictures I think it was Miss Angela (red vertical stab). I love those planes.
  23. No kidding. It just flew over Harrisburg, Pennsylvania towards the northeast at around 1,500 feet. Yellow vertical stabilizer. Definitely was a B-17. Pretty cool. Wonder who it belonged to?
