  1. And yet everyone still firmly believed it really was a bomb, despite your points above? Belief is probably unrelated to the decision process. The SOP was probably to just do whatever and get them off the plane. Currently, people walk into banks and say they have a gun/bomb and the tellers just give them the money without seeing the weapon. Personally, I don't want to be in the bank with an irate gunman on the day that the teller decides to make it an issue. Getting accidentally shot is just as painful.
  2. Wasn't Obama's mother a single parent? This whole "missing role model" may be a misdirection. In the cases mentioned, it seems that the parent living with the children isn't a role model either. It is the failure of a dysfunctional adult to live their own life and make decisions. The choices regarding their children are just a segment of those.
  3. I tried a variation on the recipe on NY Eve, but people were taking up to 3 cups to get drunk, so I'm going back to the previous plan.
  4. We intentionally scheduled it this way, so that there was not a conflict.
  5. "Motorist stops traffic when he gets out of car to yell at kid on bicycle." It didn't relate to the facts in any way, but that is what it said, right under the picture. I think the question was intended to be hypothetical, not a real incident. I know, but that event was stranger than anything that I could come up with. We'll see that kid in the paper again one day after a mall shooting.
  6. Unless there is a camera, then it's porn. It depends. If it is Nicole Kidman and she is doing everything with a penis, like in Eyes Wide Shut, then it is "art", not porn. In EWS, they had elegant costumes. If it had just been the pizza guy showing up, then it would have been porn. Apparently, art critics don't like pizza. Surprising because so many of them are middle-aged chubby guys. You'd think that a movie with pizza would be two thumbs up.
  7. "You Yankees are so silly about matters of the heart. Don't you know that women are the only works of art?"
  8. I support single moms who attend college.
  9. It is interesting that the product can be given away legally. But it becomes illegal when it is paid for.
  10. Annual Muff Brothers Reunion Mar 14-15 Yes, once again. Another stirring moment in skydiving history. We are in the planning stages. A date is a good start. Muff...
  11. The "teases" are annoying. Yes. They are valueless and there is no point to doing it, except to annoy, and that is malicious in a small way. If there is any information, it should be presented. The "games" have repeatedly been shown to be a waste of time. We are way past the point where the signal-to-noise ratio would validate the idea of putting up with the games. Instead of encouraging anyone to put up with the games, in their many flavors, I would be in favor of their end. That won't happen. For myself, I didn't participate in the last few time-wasters. It is as easy as that. That is my suggestion. People choose to respond or not. I wouldn't want any contributors to leave the forum, merely avoid the pointless part.

  13. Hi. We still have the trailer at the dz and bring out the Muff wind blade for occasions. The numbers are over the 4500 mark now. In the dz "City Hall", there is a nice pic.
  14. Attention. Ever see a homely 32yo woman a month after her boob job is completed? Can't wait to show everyone. It's the only attention they've every got.
  15. You guys are sure that it's a person? That's not even 10% of a picture. A secret picture without even a secret name, but this one has a secret sex. A new standard in nebulous time-wasters. I'll pretend it is a male. Then, since Easter is just around the corner, we could identify him as Peter by using the lyrics. "Here comes Peter Cottontail, hopping down the bunny trail..." You guys already wasted a bunch of time with the previous Secret Guy doing Secret Stuff in a Secret Picture. (That was probably picked up off an advertisement on the internet.) This is just another of those no-information games. It's your free time, but why do it again?
  16. Presumably if he signed them as president then they are valid, but I am not sure he uses the post office. Actually, Jan 20th is the big day for pardons. On Jan 20, 2001, Clinton pardoned 140 people in the final hours of his presidency. We'll have to wait for tomorrows news to get the final count. And, for those who do not know the difference. A pardon means an executive order vacating a conviction. A commutation means a mitigation of the sentence of someone currently serving a sentence, without vacating the conviction itself. So, a commutation does not remove the guilty verdict, it just says "time served is enough".
  17. Their about the same. I use them innerchangably. so you don't know either.... got it. It's an overall theme for me. Half the people are below average, I only communicate with them.
  18. from student, to own rig at 60 jumps, that meant from a 210 to the 150,. probably was never before so aware.. and did the piloting-course pretty much straight after.. is there so much difference from a square to a semi!? i have to test one to see for myself.. This will take some personal experience. Squares tend to open in a more forgiving fashion. I have had squares open with enough line twists to have the risers pin my neck down, and still fly along evenly. On an elliptical, it is going to do whatever the last line input was, and do it right-the-heck-now. So, if your body position needs improvement, it will teach you by going into a memorable spinning dive. You get to where you "feel" your opening through harness pressure (it pulls differently on one of the leg straps) and handle it by moving. People who don't, get a little 90-degree snap to one side, or worse.
  19. Dammit. How are we supposed to find out what is going on?
  20. Their about the same. I use them innerchangably.
  21. This year, I upsized. Also, I don't swoop. However, I followed a personal rule. For the first, 20 landings on a new canopy, I add 10 extra feet to my approach. I am pretty accurate on my landings, so I landed a little farther away. Not a problem. I did the 20 landings in one or two months. There is no big race, right? Remember, 200 jumps is 200 landings. I think it is great that you have done all the skills tests. That is a great start. I hope that you talk to other jumpers who are experienced at swooping. Better to learn something by asking than to spend 300 jumps figuring it out. I had 1400 jumps on my first 150, a square. Then 600 on my next 150, an elliptical. Large difference in performance and twitchy movements. The openings were radically different. (I now weigh 200 lbs without gear) Changing size and design, at the same time, will demand caution.
  22. Recent history? In the last few years, I've been thrown out of a local bar, The Crystal, now and again, but it was circumstances. Nothing my fault.
  23. I sometimes take a dump while I am already in the restroom. I bring it with me to the bathroom. No, you don't. You TAKE it to the bathroom Can you use "bring" in a future tense? Like... "I am going to bring my grammar to the house tomorrow." Since this is your rant-thread, why does all this stuff upset your grammar?
  24. I read a psychology-type article that said that teenagers have a need for a cathartic process to deal with fear. They need to experience fear, but in a safe, controlled environment. "I close my eyes, the monster doesn't get me." It has to do with emotional range.
  25. The Star Wars movies were one-dimensional live-action cartoons. A princess with an attitude, an old wizened warrior, the new knight-apprentice, the old evil wizard/emperor, the old bad-warrior awaiting redemption. Simply a movie version of the newspaper cartoon Prince Valiant. One-dimensional characters with a clear definition of who is right/wrong. Good guy wins. Best viewed by 9-11 year olds. My personal worsts - any movie where Meryl Streep is about to cry through her pink, puffy eyes.
