  1. Faith-Based Initiatives program A few years ago, one of the security issues in large public housing problems was solved by hiring a Muslim group to do the security. Muslims, in the US, are against the use of drugs and would run the dealers out of the projects. That reduced the associated crime and violence. I don't know if that is still being done, but it seemed to work at the time.
  2. My anniversary was on Groundhog Day.
  3. Me neither. Just illustrating that water was the transport mechanism for some of the money. Earlier, people kept opposing that theory. Just empirical thought, if you live near a river, you see it all the time. Assessing our facts. - The money find is our only rigid fact. - Exit point still has a range of conjecture. The money was found in, or near the river, depending on what flood stage we are speaking about. To be transported by water, it had to be: - in the watershed or the river. - it didn't float upstream, against the current. (Note - DBC could have landed downstream if he lost the money on exit and the money was blown to its resting point, while the wind carried him further.) Logically, the money wasn't 10 miles from the river, in a field. Let's say, 100 yds on either side of the river or a tributary - essentially, the flood plane. Outline that box. Figure the max wind drift of the canopy: From the probable exit point, figure the drift of a round with the max wind estimate. Draw the suspected drift cone and get a trapezoid effect. Figure the max wind drift of the cash bag, as if lost on exit: From the probable exit point, estimate the drift of a bag with the max wind estimate. (Cutaway free bags don't go that far and the cash bag was not aerodynamic) Draw the suspected drift cone. We don't know where he landed, but at least we have a better idea where he didn't.
  4. Yeah. Just trying to see who else has done what.
  5. A little more descriptive please...
  6. I'm trying to come up with some ideas for skydiving and non-skydiving activities. Suggested so far: Mr. Potatohead - one guy holds it. 3 others try to get pieces plugged in. The only problem is that it is more of a flatflyer RW game. I am trying to think of something interesting for sitflying groups of 2 or 3. Rubber chicken - I haven't got the details on this one yet. After hours: Drunken dodgeball - a perennial favorite. Lingerie contest - everyone welcome. Exceptions: No games that involve golf carts and/or creepers. Stuff involving electricity will not be eligible for prizes.
  7. You are an above average driver. the Barnum Effect In Marketing class, we discussed the psychological profile of beer drinkers. Essentially how they view themselves. - Most are armchair athletes who havent' played a sport in 10 years, but don't miss a televised game. - Tend to be sloppy and untidy. - Think of themselves as rebels who live life on their terms. We determined that a sales campaing based on fact would fail. "Hey... you sit among randomly strewn beer cans watching ESPN, drink this." So, we were going to go with the "guy with a mullet yelling Freebird and having a good time". It turns out that others had the same idea earlier. The instructor said that years ago Schlitz had expanded the idea with its "Go For The Gusto" campaign. Sexy people getting off a $200K sailboat in the islands with a case of Schlitz. Yeah...
  8. If you say, "a 300 lb log was carried by the current", people will say, "oh yes, seen it". If you say, "a 20 lb bag of money was carried by the current", people argue. Go figure. Money could be in a bag. Current puts it into an eddy near a bar where the current swings in. Maybe there is a tear in the bag (after some time on the bottom) and some of the money falls from the bag and sits on the bottom in one spot. Nature covers it with sand. I have seen gold mining on the Rogue River (Oregon) done that way. There is a low spot around rocks. The heavier gold dust collects there. The divers suck it out with a 3" hose and a small pump. - Money could have been lost on exit. - Lost in a river landing. - Been on land and a flood moved the bag after a couple of year. I've seen people open a round at 800 feet with a 8mph wind and watched them go for a tour of the countryside. A nice 25 mph wind and a 4K opening could be a cross-country adventure ride. You don't have to start that close to end up somewhere. All that gives plausible reasons how money could end up in the sand without any space aliens involved. If he lived, but lost the money, you'd never hear about him again. It recently took me 4 days to find a favorite tshirt that was misplaced in my own house. There is a lot of river, a lot of years, and only a tiny bit of money to find.
  9. Oh, thank God. This is a legal issue. I thought this was another STD thread.
  10. I'll give you a heads up. It probably won't happen. That is because, sometimes, the target does not wish to be found. So, I hope that policy continues. Here is my suggestion: Email or telephone the dz and give them your contact info. They can pass it along if possible. Ok? That would be a good process. (Sorry if this sounds a little cynical, but this is the internet.)
  11. I dont think Happythoughts can see that thru his personal hatred of the Clintons. The investigations HOPEFULLY brought about changes... but with the last several years of Homeland Security.. I think its probably back to the same attitudes that were pervasive before Waco and Ruby Ridge. GW and the Patriot Act have given the LEO community far too much intrusive power.. and theconservative people like Happythoughts seem to believe that is good.. I mean.. hey if you are doing nothing wrong....what do you have to complain about. The oddest thing that you do is hypothesize about my thoughts and then give me grief about it. First, the investigatons came about because what they did was wrong. Will you acknowledge that? Second, I recognize that what Reno did was wrong and misguided. So, yes, I don't like Reno FOR WHAT SHE DID. She set up a gun battle for a media event. She sent people to Waco to kill children for good press. That is WRONG. I don't like Clinton for REASONS. It is ok to dislike someone for valid reasons. It is not ok to just let Clinton and Reno off the hook. You have repeated been ok with that and I have no idea why. Their behavior was wrong. While you abhor those actions in others, you will not clearly state that Clinton/Reno were wrong. Having one set of rules for everyone is just ethical standards. If he was leading his administration, Ruby Ridge should have never happened. Even with the most lax attention, it would have all stopped at Ruby Ridge, but it didn't. All part of the tapestry that is the Clinton Do-Nothing administration. So, try to redirect the discussion, or defend Renos actions. I don't care. Reno is a criminal. I can say that.
  12. I wonder how many people understand this reference? Mostly people with a foundation in mathematics and sociology. ...and sci-fi nerds ;) Irony I guess it depends where they put the Foundation series. The key thing about reading articles like this is perspective. They are only experts on what they know. If you are an agoraphobic, then "the edge" is the front door. To leave the house, is to invite unmeasured danger. From the reverse view, I question the value of the opinion of people who do not skydive (or reach out beyond the "norm" lifestyle). Skydivers have one common element - belief in self. There are huge dangers in skydiving. We go through AFF and learn the skills that will help us survive. It is the belief that we can learn those skills and control our life that sets "edge workers" apart. The study highlights two things. The study states that edge-workers have a mistaken belief that they can control all factors. No experienced skydiver believes that. To me, the study also shows to failure to confront obstacles and live a life of timidity. Let us consider the extremes of behavior. -The skydiver who risks all to jump. -The agoraphobic, who believes that checking his own mailbox is risking all. Who is the better adjusted? Who has the best adult coping/life skills? I think that it is best explained using terms. "Normal" is a statistical term meaning "average". What kind of a goal is that?
  13. Wiki - Ruby Ridge Wikipedia, a supremacist website? It's just facts. I know that you abhor facts. The Reno SS set it up, every step of the way. Personally I dont think that is the America most of us signed up for. For the the Clinton administration, that was Janet Reno. - She gave special "rules of engagement" and then during the coverup, the "revised" rules were produced. - She planned the war at Waco as a media event. It wouldn't have gotten good coverage without the gun battle. At some point, you either have to determine whether Clinton had control of his appointees during his administration. Either he gave approval to Renos actions or not. If he takes credit for the "good" things of his administration, then he needs to take blame for the bad things. Was he in charge of Reno or not? Above, you stated all the actions that you hate in the law enforcement community. For some reason (again), you give a pass to the Clintons while they committed the exact atrocities. Wiki - Waco Waco - Seventy-six people (24 of them British nationals) died in the fire, including 21 children and two pregnant women. Showtime? This was a planned media event. Too bad Reno didn't know how to play the sax. Another Reno accident? Or assassination attempt. Read the entire Wiki account (or any version) of Waco (known as the Waco Massacre) and tell me if you don't believe that the ATF went there to kill those people for a media event.
  14. Someone has been single for 10 years. Having no luck, they change partners every 2 months. 6x10 is 60 That's the math. They drink tequila excessively. ...and they frequent a bar in a place that your future SO is going on vacation.
  15. Nice, but the facts are quite well documented. It was repeated attacks by Reno, a Clinton appointee. Doesn't Clinton take responsibility for the actions of his appointees during his administration? Weaver had access to white seperatist groups. (Bill of rights - freedom of association, freedom of speech) The Clinton-Reno plan was to put pressure on him by falsely accusing him and have him function as an informant. (Once again, lying is not a problem) Weaver was falsely accused of selling two illegal length shotguns to an FBI "infornmant". The charges were later dropped. However, was told of a trial date of Feb 19. Then, the US Probation office sent a letter stating Feb 20. He didn't show up on the 19th and a warrant was issued. (All documented facts) Then, the marshalls came out to his property. Threw rocks at his house to alarm his dog. The dog came out, they shot his dog. Then, they shot his 14yo son in the back. Later, they shot Weaver in the back, and shot his wife in the head while holding a 10 month old baby and running for cover (the marshalls were "defending" themselves from a woman and baby?). Reno ran the DOJ like her own assassin squad. Then, she tried to cover up her memoes to the FBI as to their "rules of engagement". Trumped up charges all the way down the line. Lies, murder, and more lies. Lying to cover up is the Clinton way. Then, they went to Waco. The fact is, they could have arrested the leader while he was at breakfast sitting in a booth in town, next to FBI agents 3 times a week. Instead, Reno sent in the Clinton SS and burned them alive. Liberal "Philosophy"? You can think, or say, anything as long as it agreed with Clinton/Reno. Disagree and you burn to death or get shot in the back.
  16. Tell me the truth... you got that out of Trivia Weekly. Well, which was it? "The" or "Chuck" Felix The Cat
  17. (voice of Bert) "This lesson was brought to you by the letter E" (/)
  18. Wasn't RW set up by the FBI under the Clinton administration and then his unarmed wife was shot by the Clintonistas? 400 law enforcement officials to "arrest" one man on false charges? (I know, every charge against Weaver was proven to be false, but what's a little lie among the Clintons.) And Waco... the trail of tears continues. Mismanagement and unbridled use of ATF force once again. Similar situations happened with religious fanatics under the Bush administration, but they didn't go in and murder them by burning them to death. I think they were merely arrested in a legal fasion. Clinton administration, conservative? Violent manics.
  19. 1- Jokes aren't funny unless they are funny to everyone. 2- You don't have to tell every story you know. (See item one) 3- Practical jokes aren't necessarily funny to everyone. Some pranks may result in a well-deserved butt-whipping. (See item one)
  20. Tell me the truth... you got that out of Trivia Weekly.
  21. The show A&E listing Without ever seeing the show, I have two observations. - A&E is supposed to stand for "Arts and Entertainment". - Is it the economy? The show is about a Louisiana pest control company. Has the tv show "writers" budget been removed? "I need an entire season of scripts for a tv show." "How much can you pay?" "A sack of dead squirrels and a set of headers for a small block Chevy." "I have just the writers."
  22. The true name of Felix the Cat. Trivia question, what was his middle name?
  23. I would suppose so... 6-9 would be a very long day. Very chafing. I think he meant up to this point, overall, not a running tally. (I take no responsibility for my posts. People keep feeding me the straight lines. ) Yes. I posted and immediately realized what I did. *bows* what can I say? All in good fun.
