So the people of Scotland are to vote on the 18th Sept on leaving the UK. Despite having had several Scottish Prime Ministers if the UK and free healthcare prescriptions paid for by the rest of the UK (Who have to pay for theirs), and free University education paid for by the rest of the UK (Who have to pay around £9,000 a year for theirs) our tartan clad brothers feel oppressed. And so they're taking a vote on leaving the Uk. If they do they will have no currency of their own, no chance of joining the EU (as they have no currency or underwriting central bank). Their ecumenic decisions will be made by the UK and they will have no say on them. They may lose the monarchy, they will have to hand in their UK passports, they will have no freedom of movement across the UK and the EU. Already there has been a massive movement of money out of Scotland just in case of a YES vote. Their top three banks have said they'll move south to England. If they set up their own currency they'll have to build up a reserve which will mean austerity measures and anyone having purchased a house in Sterling (GBP not the place) will be screwed by the exchange rate and most likely lose their property. No one will have to take away their freedom because they will have given it away themselves and voted themselves into subjection. Funny old world isn't it. This Is What Wannabe Jihadists Order on Amazon Before Leaving for Syria

A really good article. Sadly time and time again I see angry young psychopaths such as Michael and Michael (since when was that an Islamic name?) who murdered Lee Rigby in London, or the idiot Richard Reed the shoe bomber, Germaine Lindsay of the 7/7 bombers and many others of the same ilk become converts to 'Islam' so they have an excuse to practise their sicker fantasies in the name of God. The DP is all about retribution and making an execution look humane when it is actually not. So by those parameters it was a failure. However theres a lot of people who will be glad he took so long to die. Its not difficult to execute a prisoner totally painlessly using nitrogen and hypoxia to get the job done. But that isn't the point of the DP s it, folks need to see 'em suffer or theres just not enough retribution. And for the record I'm neither pro or anti DP, (I'm undecided) and I'm neither Dem or GOP (God blessed me and made me British). Shit is going to get real messy in Ukraine/Russia
Skyrad replied to Remster's topic in Speakers Corner
Just think, if there is actually someone out there targeting Malaysian Air how pissed they'll be.... The first one disappears and is written off as a likely onboard fire or nav issue so they hit another and it happens to go bang over the Ukraine and the Russians get the blame! (Not that I actually think its likely) When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. Lucius Annaeus Seneca -

It's sad, the day is fast approaching when the last WW2 Veteran will be gone. It is sad, I was thinking the same thing only the other day. As a child our family had a Launderette on a Saturday I'd sit there and listen to the people now my age tell their stories of the war and the people in their 60s would talk about life in at the front and in the trenches of the first world war. They're all gone now and soon those who remember WWII will be gone too, but I'll never forget their stories or what they did for us. Barbaric and backwards. I wonder how long the USA will keep company with China, North Korea et al. Its now the only place in western civilisation that has the death penalty. You don't have to go to the USA for this to be a problem, we recently had the same thing happen over here in the UK. A man in his 80's went into a gun shop and blew his brains all over the ceiling. If its offset when you put the weapon down theres a strong chance that you'll knock your sights out. Of course if you're on a range thats one thing, but in the field its a different matter entirely. that's not the point of execution - it's not about what he 'deserves' or not. It's about removing the threat from society. That's what WE deserved your comment feeds the "all people want is revenge" comment - which is a silly tangent discussion tactic Okie screwed up - using drugs, etc and trying to make it 'palatable' to the public is a sop. IF we must execute, then it needs to direct and effective. Complex drug delivery system? chambers?....I don't see any of those being a practical and efficient way to do it. If we use a series of drugs, then they should be administered directly and each step of the process confirmed. When this stuff happens, suddenly the guillotine doesn't seem so brutal anymore. Or shots to the head. (private, no observers would be the way to go - it's carrying out a sentence, not putting on a show). (and no, the idea of closed vs open casket being indicative of cruel/unusual is a silly discussion, humane/typical should be strictly defined as quick/minimal pain) A bolus of heparin followed by a IV line into a bucket should do the trick. If Russia wants to take eastern Ukraine (Or the whole of Ukraine for that matter) there is bugger all that either the USA or the EU can do about it. There is no will for a fight after a decade of war in Iraq and Afghanistan. Syria is a bigger and more pressing threat to our security. So good luck Ukraine but you're on your own and everyone knows it. When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. The USA has illegal immigrants and drug dealers crossing in masses across its southern border but focuses on some allegedly trespassing cattle and send 200 highly armed men with air support to defend tortoises? Junk food banned for sale across the USA as of 1st July

Thats a new concept to me, we don't have that over in the UK. So am I understanding correctly that the fast food joints have a night where they get the parents to come along and donate 10% of the profit to the school? I'm surprised the schools participate in this. Are they public schools (As in not fee paying schools)? Skyrad replied to Skyrad's topic in Speakers Corner
So I saw the following article on Sky News and I'm very interested in what opinion is across the globe but especially in the USA regarding this development. http://news.sky.com/story/1249930/junk-food-school-meals-banned-by-usda I know old Jamie Oliver didn't exactly go down a storm over there but I wonder if his message was better received than he was. (I don't for a second think that he had any influence over this decision but he did get a debate going). Also banning drinks of a stupidly large size in NY wasn't well received by some people so what are your thoughts on 'Junk food' being banned for sale in schools across the USA by the USAD?
