  2. Stupid is as stupid does. So when the US government says we want him. We want to put him on trial for espionage. Rest of his life in prison or death penalty. Fair trial - nope. And Hong Kong - this guy is so loaded with sensitive information that you better not let anybody else get to him - including China. Yeah. That's how to get him back. That's damage control. As you were saying... Shit, you are right! Maybe they should have just baked him a cake The best way to get him back is via legal mean, failing that Extraordinary rendition is tried and tested. 3. Why? Why do I think that is the case, or why has it declined? When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. Lucius Annaeus Seneca

  5. LOL.... And where is she now? He threw her and a 200K job to take a position at Booze Allen for 120K and gobbed off to the papers for 15 minutes of fame and to become the most wanted man since bin Laden, the term 'dick head' come to mind. 7. It's a simple tool that is more or less effective for a sedentary population, which happens to describe the vast majority of the country now. Dave - and yes, they use BMI exclusively to make the determination. 27 = overweight (and catches most of the athletes), 30 - obese, 40 = morbidly obese. You're right to a point but I would suggest that in a ethnically diverse nation such as the USA standard BMI classifications are not effective for all elements of even a sedentary population. For example Americans of Asian decent have a propensity for depositing adipose tissue in different parts of their body and primarily the abdomen. This has led the Indian medical association to reclassify downwards BMI for asians: Below 18.4 - Underweight 18.5 - 22.9 - Normal 23 - 24.9 - Overweight 25> - Obese As previously mentioned a far more effective diagnostic tool is BMI along with waist circumference. 8. After much thought on the matter I believe that Snowden is a hypocrite and should stand trial. He apparently valued the law so much that he felt that he had to go public but now he has done so he is also doing everything to evade the law.On top of which he runs to HK and China to evade the law a nation which is known for doing exactly what the NSA did with TOM SKYPE. Now he is off to Russia where SCORM-2 is in operation. As for Prism and other similar programmes, is it right that Google knows more than the Government? No and if they withheld information that could stop criminals from taking the lives of countless people then that is a good thing. if people are stupid enough to write things on the internet and believe that its private then bigger fool them. Bring Snowden back and supermax his arse. When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. Lucius Annaeus Seneca
  9. Which is why BMI and Waist Circumference give a far better assessment. Having said that regardless of if its fat or muscle if you're heavy your joint are going to deteriorate faster. The amount of competitive weight lifters who have shot knees and backs past middle age is pretty scary. 10. My thoughts exactly, very interesting to hear from a Dr on the other side of the world going through the same issues facing the NHS. A few years ago when I was in Ireland I went to a lifestyle diseases conference at the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland, the keynote speaker was Mary Harney who was at the time the Minister of Health and Children, she is a very large lady. Every speaker talked about obesity and although people were polite about it everyone was wondering what she would have to say. In the break before her talk I saw her snaffling two giant cookies with her tea, then she was on... What did she talk about? The dangers of Tobacco! An interesting choice seeing as tobacco consumption has fallen by 7.5% since the ban with over 7500 people in Ireland having successfully quit smoking. After the talk in which she also touched upon the importance of exercise I saw her walk out to her ministerial car get in and be driven two doors down to the government building where she works When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. 14. If your only tool is a hammer suddenly everything looks like a nail. yet obesity is more 'contagious' than many of these (well, type II diabetes tracks hand in hand). Friends tend to eat similarly, and exercise similarly. The correlation is stronger for families - the kids eat what the parents give them, and again the activity level is set by their example. Often one person successfully drops weight, but rebounds thanks to the example set by their peers. Whatever we've been trying to do for the past 30 years has been a total failure. And it seems like we've focused on the individual. Time to take a different path...medicare can't afford a world where we have fat college football cheerleaders as common. You make a good point and I agree that we need to tackle the increasingly homogenised obesogenic society in which we are living in. 15. In the UK & Ireland? Well pretty fairly I think, theres none of the star struck hysteria that followed him when he first came over but that hardly to be expected for any elected world leader at his point of term. The reception to his speech in Berlin was muted, he's no Ronnie or JFK but he did well nonetheless. We're in a time of austerity globally and I think the people over here are pretty much resigned to that and in a head down and arse up keep moving mode, in light of that I don't think that BHO really made much in the way of headlines or impact on the public consciousness this visit. I also think that he has talked a good talk but failed to deliver on so many areas that what he says is taken with a big pinch of salt until he delivers. 16. For the last 15 years of my life so far; approx. 70% of my diet has been KFC, pizza from Caio's and burgers from Steers (popular franchise here). I also have a tremendous fondness for a particular brand of soda; 2 to 3 liters per week. As at today; I'm 41 yrs, have a BMI of 24.2 and colesterol of 3.3 , I weigh 2kg more than I did on my 18th birthday. How is that possible ? A little excercise, low appetite and perhaps some crazy genes. I never have more than 2 meals each day and I very seldom have breakfast. IMO, 'junk food' gets a bad rap. I expect that most people can have pretty much anything if done in moderation. You could also be thin on the outside and fat on the inside, TOFI no I'm not joking. 18. An interesting post, anything to get away from the normalisation of morbid obesity has to be a step in the right direction. After a certain level of obesity the yes I'd say it was a disease which may well require treatment. 21. Ok, I see where Quade is going with this now I think.. The one big difference is that unlike in Christianity the Prophet Muhammed is seen as just that, a Prophet and a mortal man. In fact to the point where the Saudi government has destroyed all earthly relics of him, his home buildings etc so that he isn't worshiped. So although its an interesting question I'm not sure that you're comparing apples with apples here.
