Why hasn't anyone mentioned--Arrest Bashar al-Assad for Murder
Skyrad replied to OHCHUTE's topic in Speakers Corner
Lack of evidence, wrong time, no opportunity to arrest him and it would leave a power vacuum that would be filled by God alone knows who. When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. Lucius Annaeus Seneca -
Hey turtle, not sure what you mean by the 'Entitlement Mentality' do you mean the entitlement to be the world police? When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. Lucius Annaeus Seneca

Vladimir Putin is a clever and dangerous man who in this instance has made Obama look like a prize chump. I notice he released this in time for publication on 9/11 the exact time when America reflects on the wars that were a direct consequence of that terrible day. America appears weak and Obama looks weak and indecisive, he's painted himself into a corner and now Putin has taken the reins in the international area and also the initiative in the PR war. A dangerous man indeed. Some here have said that Putin 'owns' Obama, well in time that may be so, the USA is on a downward spiral and its only a matter of time before the dollar crashes. The 'Special relationship' between the UK and the USA

The 'Special relationship' between the UK and the USA
Skyrad replied to Skyrad's topic in Speakers Corner
In 1946 Churchill coned the phrase 'The special relationship' between the UK and the USA. This was strengthened further by the Cold war and the personal relationship between Ronald Regan and Margaret Thatcher in the 80s, along with the strategic relationship between the two nations at the time. But is the special relationship now dead? Did it ever really exist? With the recent refusal to follow Obama's America to war yet again and the subsequent snub has the time come to face the truth that the special relationship is over? I'll agree there is still AN investigation ongoing. The problem is you, nor I, nor anybody outside of the "other" investigation can really ever be 100% certain, but there is absolutely no doubt in my mind the UN inspection team is not the only people on the planet capable of making a determination. It would be nice if they could provide independent confirmation so people like you and me can have confidence in whatever happens next. The thing is that the USA is bankrupt when it comes to international confidence in the word of anonymous intelligence officials (Same goes for the UK). After the fabrication that took our nations to war in Iraq and the shit fest that turned out to be no one has any appetite for another war on the word of institutions that have shown they can not be trusted. The UN inspectors can be trusted to be impartial the USA can not. When an author is too meticulous about his style, you may presume that his mind is frivolous and his content flimsy. Sounds a bit like the "America First" position prior to entering into WWII. I'm sorry. I can't buy into that line of reasoning. Chemical weapons use isn't just an attack on your specific enemies. Innocents aren't simply collateral damage from splash damage of a bomb going off. Sorry, but it's far beyond immoral to not try to do something to stop it. We can bicker all day and night about what that is, but it IS our business whether or not we decide to take this or that specific action. It's like saying it's none of your business if some little hooligan in your neighborhood is poisoning pets as long as they aren't YOUR pets. Yeah, it sure the fuck is. Problem is that we still don't know with any certainty who did it. Investigation is ongoing. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-23892783 Parliament just voted down Cameron's motion to approve UK military action against Syria. And Cameron now says he will comply with the majority's wishes. (I'll bet privately he's heaving a sigh of relief - now he's off the hook.) This is Obama's slim chance for an out from the corner he's painted into. Congress is starting to demand that it be consulted before Obama takes military action. Obama should do exactly that, on the grounds that the democratic process requires it, blah, blah, whatever. If Congress approves action, then he can point the finger back at them if/when it goes sideways. If Congress says no, Obama can then say that he's doing exactly what Cameron is doing - respecting the democratic process. (Blah, blah, whatever.) I agree, it will be interesting to see which way he goes. My money is on a strike regardless and without Congressional approval. Well said Tony, growing opposition every day. The government have had to embarrassingly climb down over an attack decision today. The other two allies that haven't been mentioned in the post you responded to are Turkey and Israel. Israel has already conducted bombing missions in Syria and Turkey has had more than one cross boarder scuffle already. The Iranians have dropped trading oil in the US dollar and are encouraging others to do the same, India is already trading with Iran for oil not using the US dollar, China is prepared to do the same, other will follow. The US dollar is not held up by gold and hasn't been since Nixon defaulted on the US promise not to print more money than could be underwritten in gold. OPEC then agreed to trade oil only in US dollars thus making oil the currency that gave the US dollar its worth. To trade in the US dollar the OPEC nations had to have vast amounts of it. If oil is no longer traded in US dollar then the dollar has no real worth and there is also no longer any point in those nations holding it. If large sums of US dollar enter the market then the USA is screwed over night. At best the US dollar is buggered as the third biggest oil producer in the world Iran is no longer trading in the US Dollar. China has made the decision to no longer trade for oil in the US dollar but is using the Yuan (they made the announcement on 9/11 last year). June 13 this year Russia made a deal for the value of $270 Billion to trade oil with China Rosneft will supply China with 300,000 barrels per day over 25 years starting in the second half of the decade. The US dollar is on its way to hyperinflation provoking a war with Iran is a last ditch throw of the dice for the USA, high risk, high stakes and if it doesn't pan out they're totally screwed. Thats what this is all about, that is what is going on here. This course of action has been taken by the very coolest of heads. I spent 2 weeks in Syria in 08, as with most other places in the world, they really seemed to love Americans, but not the American Goverment. It's good to see that they are all "getting" what they deserve. If there's one thing I could never stand, it was a a three year old anti American extremist. Enough is enough, Syrians are killing Syrians and we can't stand by and do nothing. We need to kill Syrians to stop Syrians from killing Syrians, but don't worry because we'll use different weapons to the Syrians who are killing Syrians to kill our Syrians thereby reclaiming the moral high ground... Genius! Indisciminate gassing of children really does cross the line for me (even non-Christian ones) I'm not sure how anyone could be in favor of not punishing those responsible. Except thats not what this is about, this is simply a stick in the bollocks for Iran to push them into an aggressive move so that the USA can attack them while looking like the injured party. The USA or UK power brokers don't give a shit about gassed children, if they did the USA wouldn't have supplied Iraq with the chemical weapons to use on the Kurds, while the UK trained their officers. This is purely about sticking it to the Iranians, keep watching we'll be at war with them before Christmas and maybe even by he end of the month. Before the second Iraq war TWO MILLION people took to the streets of London and the government just ignored them. I'm just surprised that the current PM even bothered recalling Parliament to discuss the matter. It won't make any difference I don't think as last year the Uk economy grew by around 0.03% but the UK defence industry saw a 49% increase in growth, war is good for business. I think the thinking is that we can bomb our way our of recession while singing off the coat tails of the Americans once again. The currently line of thinking by a number of analysts is the rebels didn't have access and the government most certainly does. Further, it appears the chemicals were delivered by rockets which points further to the government. We're currently doing the checks on it. Nope. If any government in the world begins genocide it is the business of the entire human race to stop it. The US just happens to have the capabilities. While I agree with the sentiment the reality is that intervention by the USA would almost certainly be illegal and most likely result in the blockage of the Straits of Hormuz, with Russia backing Iran who are warning the USA over involvement in Syria. China is also a keen ally of Iran. The reality is that any military involvement is playing with the potential trigger of WWIII. I don't think theWMD issue comes into it, but you are right it would be an illegal act of war without the sanction of the UN. China and Russia would veto any UN involvement at the security council. Yep, though I don't think the USA will go into Syria with boots on the ground except for SF maybe. The country is broke and the appetite of the people simply isn't there.
