In the 1980s Ronald Reagan allowed the financial sector to deregulate. Reagan's policies started the whole financial sector slide. But Bill Clinton allowed this deregulation to expand in the 1990s. Under Clinton's watch, Citicorp and Travelers was allowed to merge into Citigroup to create the largest financial services corporation in the world. But this merger was illegal since banks with consumer deposits were not supposed to be allowed to engage in risky banking activities. Under Clinton's watch the financial services regulators turned a blind eye to this merger until Congress was able to change the law. The investment banks were then allowed to fuel uncontrolled speculation in the DOT.COM businesses (most of which were bogus) and this resulted in the DOT.COM bubble starting to burst in 2000 (all before GWB came on the scene). In his 8 years, GWB allowed further abuse in the financial services sector and now we are where we are today. You need to take your partisan blinders off as a non-partisan would blame Reagan, Clinton and GWB for the mess we find ourselves in. Oh to get back on topic, I caught "The Donald" today saying something about how he is happy he helped bring this "Birth Certificate" issue out in the open but he was still waiting for verification that the certificate was authentic. The guy is a Doofuss. But he was right about one thing, the media has been all over "The Donald" dissecting his every move. The media on the other hand has given Obama a free pass. Hollywood has created this Obama savior of the world myth and it is amazing that some people still view the community organizer lawyer as their messiah. Obama is not a stupid man. But he is no savior, he is no messiah and he did not have the experience to be president. He was simply a media created icon and the lemmings ate it up with all his "Hope and Change" nonsense. "Somebody's" Future Crime Prediction In Action
CanuckInUSA replied to JohnRich's topic in Speakers Corner
Here is another example of the gun grabbers going after a law abiding firearms owner who was only trying to prevent himself and his neighbors from being helpless victims of crime while they waited for the police to arrive after calling 911. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5xnTZEj17I Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Your hate is showing again. You just can't help your partisanship can you? Obama did inherit a bad economy, an economy that was passed down many many many years and presidents ago. We should have had this recession around 2000. The non-partisans will remember that the DOT.COM bubble burst before GWB took office. GWB just artificially delayed the recession with his economic/war policies. But America's spending problems date back well before GWB, Clinton, Bush, Reagan, Carter, Ford, Nixon, Johnson, JFK, etc, etc, etc. So it's not all Obama's fault. But Obama will go down in history as the biggest spending president in history (until the next clown comes along) and no amount of GOP hate can change that. Obama makes GWB look like a fiscal conservative and we all know GWB was NOT a fiscal conservative. I repeat, the GOP does not need this "Birther" issue to defeat Obama. They just need a good leader with leadership experience and a reasonably moderate message. Obama has offered little hope and no change. Except he did escalate one war and is helping to start a new war. Who would have thought that Obama the Nobel Peace Prize winner would order the firing or more cruise missiles than all previous Nobel Peace Prize winners combined. 2011 Canadian Election Turning Comical
CanuckInUSA replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in Speakers Corner
Except we are not a Republic ... at least not yet. Canuckistan is a "Frozen Icicle Dominion of the English Monarchy" where we bow to the supremacy of our Royal Rulers in Windsor Castle. This coming weekend as we fight flooding from our melting igloos, we will gather around our TV sets in the middle of the night (in the igloos that have not yet short circuited due to the melting ice) to pay homage to our future King and Queen as they wed in marital bliss (well at least Kate is a hottie). KKK Says It Doesn't Condone Tea Party or Koran Burning

I thought the Hull goal you were talking about was the one in the finals, in OT, versus the Sabres, that won the Cup for the Stars. This is the one where by a fraction of an inch Hull's left skate was in the crease as he shot the puck into the net to win the Cup. From a pure hockey point of view I see no problem calling this a goal. But if one wants to strictly interpret the rules, Hull's skate was in the crease and the goal should have been called back. Definitely a controversial time in NHL history. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I am well aware of the differences between our two tax systems and well aware of where Canada and the US are different from each other and where we are similar. Currently it is actually cheaper for me to live in Alberta since I own a house here and it's paid off. But I had a great time when I called Colorado home and CO has some of the best weather anywhere. I don't know it all in life, I only know what I have been exposed to. But I honestly don't think I need you giving me advice on what life is like in these two countries. I have lived and worked in both countries? Have you? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

2011 Canadian Election Turning Comical
CanuckInUSA replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in Speakers Corner
Told it was comical. We even have murderers running for a seat in government. http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Canada/CanadaVotes/2011/04/24/18060876.html This guy is running as an independent so no need to go on a partisan rant. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Hawks win ... game #7 here we come. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Well that depends on how you interpret the rules. There is no denying Hull's skate was in the crease. The rules at the time said "no skates in the cease". If you want to be strict, then yes the goal should not have been allowed. But from a hockey point of view, it was a goal. He kicked the puck to his stick and shot the puck in the net. Go back in any time in hockey history and this goal is allowed. It was only during this time frame where the league had this strict "no skates in the crease" rule where it was questioned. If anything good that came from that goal, was that the NHL came to their senses and modified the rule. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I caught the end of the game plus the two OT periods. Definitely a highly contested affair. Both teams had their chances to win the game in the first OT, but lady luck wanted to see the game go into the 2nd OT period. I can't believe some of the things I am reading about the game (not here on this site). There are definitely some spoiled partisan fans out there. I doubt they are Leaf fans (Leaf fans are used to losing LOL) but some people are saying Horton's goal was a cheap goal, etc, etc, etc. Partisan morons. It was a shot from the point, a rebound resulted and a Boston player was in the right place at the right time to put away the rebound. That's hockey. Nothing cheap about that goal. Keep your stick on the ice and go to the net. That's what they have been telling kids for eons. BTW ... it ain't over until it's over. Go Habs Go. 2011 Canadian Election Turning Comical
CanuckInUSA replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in Speakers Corner
The 2011 Canadian Election is turning comical with every party attacking each other (except for poor Dizzy Lizzy May's Green Party who was not invited by the media to play with the big boys). A few weeks ago I made a prediction (mainly that the Separatist Bloc Quebecois would sweep Quebec), but who would have thunk the NDP would be leading in La Belle Province. The NDP's surge in Quebec has definitely thrown a wrench into the election soap opera. The Conservatives are still well ahead of everyone else in the polls. If the polls turn out to be true, there is no doubt the Conservatives will win the most seats. But it remains to be seen if they can win a majority or if they will be stuck in another minority. The Conservatives over the years have shifted to the center as a minority government, but the hidden "Bush" majority agenda always haunts them as Lefties across the nation continue to claim. So the Conservatives have no choice, they have no political allies and they do attack everyone. The Liberals are in disarray. They view themselves as the "Natural Governing" party and despite being well down in the polls before the election even began, they triggered this election because they feel they can grab power after all the votes are cast with the help of the NDP and Bloc Quebecois. They started this election trash talking the Conservatives (no surprise here), but really their goal was to take votes away from the NDP (but still count on the NDP and Bloc support when the time comes to seize power as the 2nd place finisher). But this appears to have backfired on them big time. The Liberals appointed a poor leader few people like and now the Leftist support across the nation is swinging away from the Liberals and to the NDP. So the Liberals are now attacking the Conservatives and the NDP. The only people the Liberals don't attack are the Bloc Quebecois because they are still counting on the Bloc's post election support to seize control of power. The NDP is a socialist party. They have never governed federally and this is part of their platform. They claim the two main parties (Liberals and Conservatives) are corrupt and well the Liberals and Conservatives don't exactly have clean records. But the NDP are socialists and only hardcore socialists think their ideology is right for the nation during these times of global instability. From the beginning of the election, the NDP was attacking the Conservatives, but since the Liberals and Bloc have lost support to the NDP, the NDP are now under attack from the Liberals and Bloc and the NDP is attacking back. LOL The Bloc Quebecois is a Quebec separatist party. How they are allowed to run in federal elections is still a mystery. But they have ruled Quebec for over a decade now. Most Quebecois are socialist and are realizing the Bloc is not doing much for them. So now the NDP is being supported big time by Quebecers and the Bloc is not happy with this. The Bloc of course attacked the Conservatives from the beginning and now the Bloc is attacking the NDP. The only people the Bloc does not attack is the Liberals because the Bloc knows outside of Montreal, the Liberals are no threat to the Bloc. Finally there is the Green Party. The Greenies had a chance to be different. But their leader is so obsessed with winning a seat in parliament, she has ignored the Greens national campaign and the national media appears to be punishing her for this as well as possibly punishing her for the pre-election deal she made with the Liberals in the 2008 election. Poor Greenies are being ignored. There are really only three questions that remain to be answered: 1) Will the Conservatives win a majority or will it be another dysfunctional minority. 2) If the Conservatives only win a minority, how long will it be before the Liberals attempt their power grab. One week? One month? One year? You know it's coming. Constitutionally the Liberals are allowed to seize power if they have the support of the other opposition parties. But two wild card remain here. One is their leader is extremely unpopular across the nation (he is even unpopular inside of the Liberal Party). The other wild card is they will need the support of the separatist Bloc Quebecois to seize power. How will the nation feel when an unpopular leader who needs the separatist support seizes control of government all because the Liberals feel they and only they should ever be allowed to govern. 3) Finally the biggest question is what happens if the NDP wins more seats than the Liberals? Would the Liberals play 2nd fiddle to the NDP in a coalition government? I doubt this very much. The Liberals would never ever back an NDP government as the junior partner. So as popular as NDP leader Jack Layton is at this time, he does not have a hope in hell in becoming the PM. At least not if the polls are remotely close to being accurate. I used to think US Politics was the worst, but Canadian politics is catching up and will soon surpass the US as the jokers that they are. They all suck, every last one of them. It's just that some suck more than others. In my opinion the Liberals are the worst. They are the most corrupt, most arrogant political organization this nation has ever known. But I am sure there are some Liberal supporters here on dizzy.com that would disagree with me. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
It's cheaper than skydiving. But I would imagine one would suffer far more ankle, wrist and knee injuries (not to mention a few bells wrung) if they took up this sport instead of skydiving. But still safer than trying to skateboard on fence/stair rails. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

The Jets left Winnipeg at a time when the CDN $ was extremely low and Canadian based NHL teams (especially from small markets like Winnipeg) just could not compete with the US teams because of the currency difference. But the CDN $ is forecast to stay on par if not above par with the US greenback for many years to come. NHL hockey needs to be in cities where fans are interested in the game and of course where the teams can self sustain themselves. I don't know if Winnipeg can self sustain themselves, but it is clear Phoenix can't. The NHL either needs to move their teams into real hockey markets, or they need to fold the teams that can not sustain themselves. Can the Hawks come back and beat the Canucks? Odds are they won't. It's extremely rare to come back from a 3-0 deficit. But it's not like it hasn't happened before. Hawks have to take it one shift at a time and hope the bounces go their way. BTW ... I fully support Andrew Ference for his 1-finger salute last night in Montreal. I am a fan of the Montreal Canadiens hockey club, but even I know Montreal has the worst fans in the league (shit worst fans in all sports). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Natural Gas burns cleaner than refined oil, so yeah it's a viable option from that point of view. However when it pollutes the ground water for the people living around the wells, the people living around the wells have some serious problems. If there was an abundant supply of water from our rivers, we wouldn't need to consume ground water. But not everyone has that option. If there is an easy solution to this problem then please tell us. I don't see an easy solution. But I do know that it gets damn cold where I live during the winter months and Natural Gas keeps me from freezing. Shit a few years ago I gutted a bathroom I was renovating exposing myself to my attic and I was amazing at how cold my house got that night (this was in the middle of the summer). I definitely did not procrastinate the next day as I installed some new insulation and vapor barrier before the next frigid night. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Natural Gas should NOT be thought of as an alternative fuel to power our cars and trucks. But it appears that some politicians did think this way. Natural Gas is however one of the better fuels people who live in northern climates need to heat their homes. It is easy for someone living in a southern climate to sluff off Natural Gas as a heating fuel, but that is because they do not realize what it is like to live in an environment where cold temperatures (sometimes as cold as -30) is a daily occurrence for 4 to 6 months of the year. Obviously there is a problem here and I don't have an easy answer other than to say Natural Gas should NOT be thought of as an alternate way to power our cars and our trucks. But it is needed to heat our homes. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

"The Star-Spangled Banner" at Chicago Blackhawks games
CanuckInUSA replied to JohnnyMarko's topic in Speakers Corner
Not sure if they still play it (I assume they do), but when I was a Colorado Avalanche season ticket holder from 2000-2004 they played it during the second intermission in every game just prior to the teams coming out onto the ice to start the third period. We have water, we have oil, we have natural resources coming out of our ying yangs. If you try to take them from us with an invasion, we will beat you back with our hockey sticks from our frozen igloo fortresses. We do however have a big problem in the Spring (best time for you to invade us to steal all our natural resources). You see we suffer massive power failures when our igloos begin to melt and short circuit our electrical supplies, plus for those who's igloos don't melt until June, we are too busy watching the playoffs in the Spring to worry about beating back some invasion.
