I have only been tracking my car for three years now, but it did not take long to learn: DO NOT JUDGE A CAR BY IT'S EXTERNAL APPEARANCE It would be funny as hell if you got your Beetle to the point where it performed really well and then showed up when someone thought they were up against just a normal Beetle and you proceeded to smoke them (preferably on the track). Just remember one important thing with real engine cars, get your braking done before the corner and be back on the gas in the corner. This applies to all cars, but is extremely important for those of us with the engines behind our rear axles. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Media Propaganda related to Gun Control

I am impressed. That was a very good article with honest journalism. Two thumbs up for Matt Gurney and the National Post. -
The F1 drivers are phenomenal racers, but these Moto GP guys are crazy mofos. At the end of the season most of them are limping from some crash. Not long ago I download Faster on iTunes and it is a great documentary. I see this is the sequel so naturally I am going to need to watch it too? When does it come out? Media Propaganda related to Gun Control
CanuckInUSA replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in Speakers Corner
Not that I am aware of. Canadians can join the NRA, but the NRA does not have any jurisdiction here. However I suspect this story is surfacing now because parliament will be sitting soon and the newly elected Conservative government have a majority in the House as well as the Senate. So the existing Long Gun Registry is as good as toast this fall session. The government will likely keep all other firearms laws as is and I do not have a problem with the mandatory classes as well as the mandatory background checks. The only other aspect of our laws I do find offensive that I think should be changed in Bill C-68 (brought in by a Liberal government back in 1995) allows the police to enter the homes of registered firearms owners anytime that they want without a search warrant. Getting rid of the Long Gun Registry should mean people possessing non-restricted firearms should not need to worry about the police knocking on their doors in the middle of the night. But those who own restricted firearms will still need to register their firearms and are still subject to police warrantless searches. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Media Propaganda related to Gun Control
CanuckInUSA replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in Speakers Corner
Looks like Canada's state funded CBC is back spewing pure propaganda regarding Gun Control. They are the only major news source who is running a story about this today and it is nothing but pure propaganda to rally their loyal Leftist "Guns are scary, all guns should be banned" following. Here's their story: http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/story/2011/09/12/quebec-dawson-anniversary-gun-laws.html The propaganda is as follows: 1) The Beretta Storm CX4 (firearm used in the Dawson College shootings) is NOT a military assault rifle. Just because it's black, just because it looks scary to the uniformed public does not make it a military assault rifle. The Beretta Storm CX4 has a semi-automatic action and fires 9MM rounds. Lethal yes, military assault rifle no. Military assault rifles fire larger rounds with their automatic actions. 2) The student behind this story says that he will not stop his Gun Control efforts until Canada bans all military assault rifles. But guess what? Military assault riffles are already prohibited in Canada. Why is the CBC calling for military assault rifles to be banned when they already are banned? 3) The article speaks of Quebec passing a "Anastasia's Law" which says Quebec requires people who want to own restricted firearms to take special classes and have police background checks. This is complete and utter bullshit propaganda coming from the CBC. Anyone and everyone who wants to legally own a firearm in Canada regardless of what province they live in must take mandatory classes, must pass written and oral exams with marks of 80% or better and then they must under go mandatory police background checks before they are allowed to own firearms. Yet another example of the media spewing pure propaganda in order to influence the ignorant masses. I really wish people would educate themselves on the actual firearms laws and educate themselves on the various firearms types before they allow themselves to be influenced by media propaganda. Stupid Lemmings. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -

America had massive debt well before the Iraq war. People really need to differentiate the difference between debt and deficit. Yes Clinton got the US government running surpluses at the end of his 8 years (the Republicans did have some influence there) and yes Clinton does need to be given some credit for running a surplus budget when he left office. But the US debt was still astronomically high. I was on the fence in 2003. Face it, unless you are on the inside we can only believe what we are told. In retrospective the Iraq War was a big mistake. Who knows what Saddam would have done if he was allowed to stay in power. I don't think he was any better or any worse than Kahdafi. But you are making assumptions about the Iraq War which I do not agree with. The Iraq War told us two things about the USA that we already knew: 1) Nobody is better than the USA when it comes to invading countries. 2) The USA continues to suck at occupying countries. But the present economic state of the USA is not the result of the Iraq War. The present economic state of the USA is a combination of: 1) Jobs lost to the global economy. 2) Astronomically high US Government debt (GOP + DEMs both created this debt). 3) Too many US citizens are/were living beyond their means. A friend recommended the movie "The Company Men" so I logged into my iTunes account and downloaded a copy to rent. The movie came out last year, so some of you may have already seen it. Overall I thought it was a good movie. It was not political in terms of pitting Elephants against Donkeys and it simply addressed the reality that heavy industry in America is dying and many people are losing their jobs, many people are having a hard time finding replacement jobs while the executives at the head of the food chain are still making obscene money (let us also not forget the people in Hollywood continue to make obscene money and of course certain professional athletes also make obscene money). It is a good movie, but with all that said, I wonder how many people also acknowledged that the lead actor "Ben Afflect" (as well as at least one other person in this movie) was living well beyond their means. The Ben Afflect character has been working at this GTX company for 12 years and while we do not know the salary history the Afflect character made in his entire 12 year career, during the movie we know Ben was making 120k as a base salary and collected another 40k in bonuses. Sure this is still miles behind the 22 million the CEO took home, but the Afflect character lost his family home and most of their other possessions within only a month or two of losing his employment. So while yes we can slam the CEOs for the obscene money they make (how many real world millions did Ben Afflect take home from this movie), let us not forget ... - Live within your means - Do not spend more than you make - Save for a rainy day I am unemployed right now, my job ended in May. Unfortunately I am no where close to having enough money to retire on so I will need to find another job. But I was NOT living paycheck to paycheck. Without even selling certain assets and/or dipping into my retirement savings, I have enough money saved to weather about 12 months of unemployment (hopefully I will find meaningful employment in my preferred career before my savings are exhausted). Think people ... just because government believes it is okay to spend money that they do not have does not mean we as individuals can think the same way. Of course Obummer is campaigning and he is relying on the Elephants to reject this plan so that he can blame them for doing nothing to help the unemployed during the up and coming election campaign. What is sad is that both sides are digging in their heals for the fight and neither side gives a damn about the unemployed, the state of the economy or the debt the US government is in. Something needs to be done to help the unemployed. Sitting on your ass and doing nothing isn't going to help them. There appears to be things in this package that make sense and a few others that appear to be just bad ideas. One of the problems with US politics (other countries do it as well) is that whenever some bill is proposed, it is this massive thing full of many many many different agendas with some pork and barrel thrown in to keep the lobbyists rolling in the dough. - $240 billion of the $447 billion was related to payroll tax reductions. On it's own this is something the Republicans should support. But is it only in there to keep the Elephants happy? Do the Donkeys also believe payroll tax cuts will help create jobs? - $105 billion in public works spending to modernize schools and improve roads and bridges. This is classic government make work projects. In some circumstances the infrastructure does need to be upgraded. But is never as easy as it seems. No doubt the lobbying begins as to who gets news roads, bridges and schools. Plus don't forget this is more borrowed money that just adds to the debt. - $49 billion to continue unemployment assistance to millions of Americans who are receiving extended benefits. This is a tough one. If you keep giving people free money not to work, they won't look for work. But at the same time there are people who need it. Not a black and white scenario here. Definitely plenty shades of grey. - $35 billion in local government aid to avoid layoffs of emergency personnel and teachers. You definitely do not want to be laying off your emergency personnel. But how much of this is pandering to the Donkey's union base. The "I am entitled to my entitlements" culture strikes again. - $8 billion to fund a $4,000 tax credit for businesses that hire workers who have been out of work for more than six months. This is the one I have the most problems with. I can sympathize with some of the people who have been unemployed for more than six months, but it is just another form of affirmative action. Instead of hiring the best candidate for the job, some companies will hire the one who gives them the tax credit. I guess the people who have been unemployed for less than six months need not apply for work. They might as well just sit back and collect their social assistance. Now how is this supposed to be helping everyone Barack the self professed Messiah Superhero Savior of the Universe? Something similar is going on up north in Ontario Canada right now and it is just fucked up. Individually some of these things in this package could be implemented and they may or may not help the unemployed. But as a group package I know I have problems with one or two of the items. But does not matter what I think. The Elephants will reject it, even if there was a cure for cancer because their primary goal is to defeat Obummer and the Donkeys actually want this bill to be rejected. If it is passed and it does not work, the Obummer and the rest of the Donkeys come off as incompetent. But if it is not passed Obummer gets what he wants, the ability to say the Republican controlled congress does not care about the unemployed. FUBAR on both sides of the fence. Ramifications of USPS going out of business
CanuckInUSA replied to regulator's topic in Speakers Corner
Mail could be delivered 1 day a week and it would not effect most people. It would result in a much smaller more sustainable worker force. Plus what is with this door to door deliver? Another inefficiency that could be eliminated. The vast majority of us do NOT need to have our mail delivered to us at our front doors everyday. But the unions will fight this tooth and nail. The unions could give a rats ass about being efficient. The unions only cares about their size. The more members they have the more power they yield. I laugh whenever postal workers threaten us with strikes. Bring it on. It just means less junk mail fliers I need throw in my recycling bin which means less unionized recyclers need to be employed by the city to pick up my recyclables. Ramifications of USPS going out of business
CanuckInUSA replied to regulator's topic in Speakers Corner
If the USPS raised their prices to cover their present and likely ballooning $9.2 billion dollar deficit, they will lose even more business which will put them in an even bigger hole. I am pretty sure you know this. Just pointing out the obvious for those who majored in Liberal Arts and/or Social Studies instead of basic economics. The USPS can not afford to sustain the labour force that it has for the shrinking business it has now and faces in the future. It is too big, it is too inefficient. Unions will fight this tooth and nail to keep their entitlements to ensure that there will always be a mailman to be there day in day out in rain or shine, snow, sleet and hail. And what for? To deliver us mail than is rapidly becoming as extinct as the dinosaurs? The Postal Service work force is too big and too entrenched in their culture of entitlements mindset. Did I say anything about eliminating Postal Services? I don't think I did. If you have evidence of myself claiming Postal Services should be eliminated then please show me where I said this. I am human, I do make mistakes and my memory and my eye sight is not as good as it once was when I was younger. I did however state that Postal Services need to adapt to an ever changing world, that they can not continue they way they are with the status quo. Cutting back on the days mail is delivered isn't going to kill anyone who is expecting mail. Cutting back on door to door delivery service for able bodied people in cities and suburbs is not going to kill anyone. In fact I do not get door to door mail delivery at my house. My mail is delivered to a super mail box around the corner from where I live. I don't even check my mail everyday. I usually only pick it up at the end of the week. Besides the only thing that is sent to me are bills, plenty of junk mail fliers and the occasional Christmas card from friends or relatives. During our recent mail strike I was proactive, I went on the websites of all the organizations that would send me bills, determined how much money I owed them, went online and paid my bill. I could even take it a step further in the future and have these companies send me my invoices online. Everyday door to door postal delivery for urban centers for able bodied people is not necessary in our modern ever changing world. It's inefficient and requires a much larger labour force than is needed. But you know unions will damn well fight to keep their dinosaur entitlements. +1 Barring some catastrophic accident where there may be a plane crash on some remote tropical island where the lone survivor builds a personal relationship with a volleyball he finds, you know your package you sent through FedEx or UPS will also get to it's destination on time and it will not be lost. Let's face it. Postal Services such as the USPS is losing revenue because it is losing business because people are either evolving with how their communicate with each other and conduct commerce, or losing business because people are losing confidence in the service. Postal Services such as the USPS can NOT continue on with the status quo. Eliminated Saturday delivery should be a no brainer. Heck here in the frozen north there is talk of 3 day delivery (which is meeting huge resistance by the union that controls our public Postal Service). But that is not enough. The USPS can not afford the work force that it has with it's generous public pension. It is just not sustainable. It is really hilarious listening to Leftists make fun of the religious Right concerning not believing in evolution while at the same time these same Leftists ignore the way society is evolving right in front of their own eyes and refuse to adapt to an ever changing world. The world is changing and it is changing very fast. If you refuse to adapt to these changes, you will be left behind. Gone are the days where you get out of school, land a job for life complete with a fully indexed pension that you did not fund yourself. Start saving for that rainy day people and stop relying on someone else to give you your golden parachute at the end of the rainbow. Because it's not going to be there. The publicly funded golden parachute pensions are not sustainable. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -

Spend spend spend ... who gives a flying fuck about the debt you hand down to future generations right? Is there any wonder why Obama makes GWB look like a fiscal conservative and we all know GWB was NOT a fiscal conservative. You do not give a flying fuck about how much debt your Messiah racks up just as long as you get your entitlements. I did not have unions take money from me, I negotiated my own compensation with the organizations I worked for and I funded my own pension so I need not worry about government reneging on a deal. Is it enough to retire on? That will depend on inflation and how long I live. But you are right about one thing, I am pissed that there are jackasses who are fucking with my future retirement. These jackasses come in many forms. Some of these jackasses are central bankers, some of these jackasses are wall street scum. But most of these jackasses are corrupt politicians, lawyers and media moguls. Ron Paul makes far too much sense for the Republicans to choose him and he's not a Fabian Socialist, so the Democrats don't like him either. Could Ron Paul win as an independent? Possibly, but I would not bet the ranch on it. Plus even if he was to win, he makes too much sense for the puppetiers, he would probably end up like JFK. Question: do you think nothing should change down at the USPS regardless of how much money they lose? $9.2 billion deficits are awfully large for an organization that is seeing it's revenues shrink exponentially with no hope of ever recovering the business it may have once had in the past. But since the union feels they are entitled to their entitlements, who cares how much money is lost right?
