how many jumps makes you a "current" skydiver?
CanuckInUSA replied to Newbie's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I would tend to agree with Phree here that people should try and target about 8 jumps/month to stay current. Of course time, weather and money sometimes get in the way. But 8 jumps/month is only 2 jumps/week. BTW ... I'm hoping to do at least 10 jumps this weekend and I think that is doable what with the weather forecast. The learning curve on Premiere/burning DVD's
CanuckInUSA replied to Deuce's topic in Photography and Video
No rush for the DZ.COM formation load footage Duece ... I'm also waiting for Cajones and Lewmonst to deliver their Eloy videos as well and Krishan send me a video of some of his jumps (a couple of which you were in like the Hybrid with Pablito and Sudsy as well as one of the hoop jumps) and Krishan's video has surved its purpose of bringing back some awesome Eloy memories. I don't know Carole, but it's a sobering thought when less than a month ago I was talking to Franck at Eloy about the joys of being a new skydiver and now I find out he's been injured jumping and was/is hospitalized. Be safe out there ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Boulder, Co to Eloy, Az 14 hours when myself and the weather and in pretty good conditions. 16+ hours when I'm tired and need more rest stops. But I'd do it again. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

All of the information (serial #, purchase info, etc, etc) was at home so no I didn't send a 2nd email. That is why I contacted SQ1 this morning (why wait an extra day). Besides, the original email message I sent Sunday night never bounced so that leads me to believe that it was sent and likely received. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Thanks to Square One's intervention (who contacted L&B on my behalf today), I may have a resolution to my ProTrack problems. I need to send the faulty ProTrack back to Square One and upon their receipt they are supposed to send me a new unit (I guess my logged jumps are history, good thing I keep paper logs). What I don't get is why did L&B ignore my email. It wasn't a nasty email. I was just telling them that my unit failed and asked them where I could send it for repairs. Why did they choose to ignore that sort of message? Once more Square One rocks ... I'm not so sure about L&B. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Now, that's just too COOL (PHOTOS attached)!

I normally don't think Skyvans are very good looking airplanes, but this bird is just downright gorgeous. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
I wasn't sure how an empty dbox would effect the aerodynamics (it did cross my mind). What about taping up the lens hole? I just thought it might be an idea to have the bulk without the weight to see what riser strikes might be like. But if it's not advised, then I won't do it. I know I still need to work on my free fly consistency (especially head down) before I know I'm ready to fly a camera. PS: I am already jumping with the chin cup and I like it. I haven't jumped in Canada yet (my first jump was on July 14th, 2002). But I own a house and have family and friends in Calgary. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Hey Brad Going to start flying a camera soon? Cool ... so will I. I'm going to start flying with an empty dbox attached to my Hawkeye and then once I'm comfortable with the possible riser strikes I'll be adding the camera. Hope to jump with you again when either: 1) You visit your bro in Colorado. 2) I visit my family in Vancouver. 3) We meet again at Eloy. Z-Hills this weekend... 100 Jumps for ME!!!

Pie? Pool? Either way, have fun and you go girl. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Rob If you remember I was the guy who dropped by Pitt Meadows from Colorado back in early October, but I couldn't jump due to the poor weather that day (and I was doing real relative work on the nice day before that). Too bad though as I was really looking forward to jumping at sea level. I also ran into some of the other Pitt Meadows people at Eloy (including a fellow by the name of Brad Harris who lived in Washington State and is the brother of one of my fellow Colorado jumpers). I stand corrected with the 300th ... and I was wondering who that other lurker was. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Square One kicks ass!!! Of course I paid extra for this, but I placed a rush order with them yesterday afternoon and low and behold my new audibles are sitting on my desk here at work. Square One rocks!!! But I still haven't heard a peep from the L-and-B people concerning my broken ProTrack. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Happy b-day sky!!! Wish I was still in Eloy!!! Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I'm still eagerly awaiting the arrival of Cajones and Lewmonst's Eloy boogie video, but Krishan (a fellow DZ.COMer from NM) sent me a video the other day of some of the jumps he did (some of which I was involved with) and it brought back great memories. Plus I also got to see jumps that I wasn't even on (like AggieDave's 400th which went to the crappers or the neat hybrid with Sudsy and Pablito hanging from). Now the question I have to ask myself (AggieDave should remember this), what the heck was I thinking when I pulled AggieDave out of the Otter before the count? Once again, I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of the official boogie video (and how could I forget the DZ.COM formation loads from Duece). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Yes you are right. I've had a long frustrating day at work today (I'm still here ... doh) and I really shouldn't take my frustrations out on fellow DZ.COMers. My boss ... well that's another story. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

It's funny, when I'm in America I find myself defending Canada and when I'm back home visiting friends and family I find myself defending the USA. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I guess you guys don't bother to read the thread. If you had you would have noticed that I was a little pre-occupied with the dude who had just corked above me. You know what, I'm not going to get into this anymore. It's obviously not going anywhere. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

And for the most part didn't I do just that on Sunday? I looked at the horizon when things started to feel fishy, immediately went to my belly from my head down (tracked a bit as well), looked at my wrist mount and said to myself "it's pull time". Sheesh right back at you dude ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Have fun ... BTW ... how's the leg? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Well I'm still waiting for a reply but in the meantime I hate to say it, but I've placed another order and will be buying yet even more skydiving gear. Under the assumption that I will either get my ProTrack fixed (or be shipped a replacement), I just placed an order for two ... count'em ... ProDyters which I will use as audibles and then I'm going to fly the ProTrack on my leg (apparently the best place to have it for accurate jump readings). I'm sure someone will question why I'm doing this, but I wanted a backup audible and I do like the logging capabilities of the ProTrack. So why not use the ProTrack where it's best suited. First time jumper with a .948 Wingloading?
CanuckInUSA replied to Casch's topic in Safety and Training
It could be that the SkyMaster canopies you fly don't flare worth $hit. I remember when I was just starting I PLFed all the time (also flying a 290 Skymaster). But as soon as I started flying smaller canopies with the ability to flare I started standing up my landings. Go figure? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Well it's been more than 36 hours since I sent B-and-L a carefully crafted email informing them that my ProTrack failed (the email was pretty much written in a way which told them what happened, who and when I bought it from, my serial number on the unit and where do I need to ship it to have it repaired). Well not a word from them so far. So who said this company looks after their customers? It's starting to look like I have a useless $280 paper weight on my hands.
