Wherever did you get this idea that nobody would die. Of course people would die. Guns are pretty efficient killing tools and any civil war would result in death. The Western military powers (especially the USA) have proved that they are 2nd to none when it comes to invading a country. But the US military really sucks at occupying a country. Yes the US military does out gun the common armed citizen. But just look at the damage the Iraqi insurgency did and then just imagine how difficult the US/UN government would have if it decided to turn on it's own people. It would be bloody, it would be nasty. But as long as the 2nd amendment exists, as long as the US population is armed, the US people could fight back against their own government. There is no fighting back if you are disarmed by your government. You can call me all the names you want. You can tell me you think I am full of shit, you can tell me that you believe guns should be banned. But history has a way of repeating itself. However history will not repeat itself in North America as long as the 2nd amendment exists. Oh by the way there are millions of unregistered assets sitting dormant in Western Canada. Even though I am not an American and at least for now am back living in my native Canuckistan, but I hope the NRA never goes away. I hope the 2nd amendment always exists in the USA. None of us wants to see innocents murdered like what happened this week in Aurora as well as countless other mass murder shooting sprees. But what is more disturbing than the hundreds of innocents who have been murdered in mass shootings are the estimated 170 million who have been murdered in the last 100 or so years thanks to draconian Gun Control regimes. Funny most of the time we think of the millions murdered by Stalin, murdered by Mao, murdered by Hitler as old history. But Cambodia didn't happen all that long ago, Central Americans were murdered in the 80s and African genocide of the unarmed and vulnerable is still happening. Most of us would agree that the world is over populated. But without the ability to fend for yourself, who is to say that history could not repeat itself. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iDivHkQ2GSg Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Hope you enjoy it. I know it had me sitting on the edge of my seat wondering what would happen next. One of my favorite lines from the movie was: "Remind me why we do this again" - Ed "Because we don't surf" - Rob Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I would like to recommend a movie. A Lonely Place to Die It's a 2011 movie from the UK set in the Scottish Mountains where 5 friends (3 men and 2 women) set off on a climbing trip that turns into something they never expected. This movie has a realism about it that other movie makers ignore. The movie has some great climbing scenes and has you sitting on the edge of your seat for the first hour. If you can find fault in the flick, it does get a little bizarre at the end of the movie. But still worth the watch in my opinion. It's available as an iTunes downloaded rental or purchase. You can also find the DVD on Amazon.com. PS: don't watch the trailer if you really want to keep the events of this movie a surprise, keeping you even more on the edge of your seat. But if you do want to see the trailer, here it is: YouTube Trailer Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Finally got around to watching "Fastest". I would have loved to see it on the big screen, but beggars can't be choosy. I watched it on my 32" computer monitor via an iTunes download. Great close up videos that is for sure. I am going to have to find the time to watch "Faster" again as something tells me I liked "Faster" better than "Fastest"? Maybe not, "Fastest" is good. Either way I now have both of them on my 'puter thanks to the iTunes download. But a few things are common between these two documentaries. Unlike F1 (one of my favorite forms of motorsports) who's drivers are more often than not in great condition at the end of the season, virtually the entire field of the Moto GP grid walks to and from the paddock on some sort of walking aid. These Moto GP racers have to have the biggest balls of anyone in motorsports. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I am going to make a brief cameo appearance here before disappearing once again into the night. As a former Colorado resident the events of the last month have been disturbing. First the extremely scenic NW Colorado Springs neighborhood of Mountain Shadows I once called home burns to the ground and now this mass killing in Aurora. I never lived in Aurora, but I spent many many many fond hours playing volleyball in this suburb and had friends who did call Aurora home. When the names of the victims are released I am hoping that I do not recognize any of the countless people I met while playing volleyball in the city. I suspect most of the victims will be people I do not know as it has been eight years since I last set foot in Aurora and if I am not mistaken many of the victims are young people I would not have been exposed to. But it is still a disturbing event. This event goes far beyond Gun Control and for all of the people who spent their entire day today debating Gun Control, I have to ask did you accomplish anything? What caused James Holmes, a young man who is likely to be a very intelligent person, go so far over the edge in his desire to kill and destroy as many lives as he could. Sure his choice of firearms made part of his job easier. But this guy is a smart guy and he could have chosen another tool to conduct his violence had he wanted to (remember how Timothy McVeigh killed hundreds with his bomb made of fertilizer). It's clear the anti-gun and pro-gun people will never agree with each other. But instead of entering into an endless and time wasting "I hate guns they need to be banned" or a "from my dead hands" debate, I have to wonder did James Holmes leave any sign to the people he was around that he had this desire to destroy so many lives or was he so cold, so calculated the he was able to conceal his intentions of evil from everyone. Who knows what sort of family James Holmes comes from, but more often than not, when you see evil in this world, it's not some inanimate object that we should be blaming, it's more a case of questioning what sort of family did this person/people be raised in. This is a sad day for the beautiful state of Colorado. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

If you want to find a good coach you need to expect to make some sacrifices in order to obtain this coaching. But you are being obtuse if you think they don't exist. The fellow I received my advanced coaching from, meets this criteria you outlined. He is a better than awesome canopy pilot, he is a fucking good teacher and he is very much a professional. I had to travel for my coaching, had to pay money for hotels and car rentals (not to mention money for jumps and of course money for the coach). But it was all worth it. The knowledge I received from the coach was priceless (oh and I did this coaching on more than one occasion). Due to the fact that I can no longer stay current since returning to Canuckistan, I have had to not only retired as a competition level swooper, but I also regretfully retired as a swooper. Swooping rocks, but you need to stay current if you don't want to crater. If you survive your next 1000 jumps, maybe you will come to understand what this all means. Until then, know this, "You are entering the most dangerous phase of your jumping career and there are a ton of people who know a heck of a lot more about this than you do". I am not trying to be an asshole here, just trying to state the facts. Been there, done that. PS: to the OP of this thread, good on you for seeking your coaching and recognizing the value these coaches can offer the "trial and error" swoopers. Welcome to the world of enhanced knowledge of what to do up there. Just remember while knowledge is key, even the best can find themselves in the corner and the sooner you recognize you are in the corner on a given jump, the better your chances of survival are. The margin for errors in swooping is slime to nil. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Even though I only lived there for 2.5 years from 1998 through to the summer of 2000, I have the people who live in the northwest Colorado Springs community of "Mountain Shadows" very much on my mind today. I was shocked to open up a news story only to see the townhome complex I once lived in so close to the fires. http://nationalpostnews.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/wild-fires-usa09.jpg With hundreds of homes already lost, words can not describe the devastation the effected families must be going through now. http://www.denverpost.com/wildfires/ci_20962119/colorado-wildfire-waldo-canyon-fire-officials-confirm-hundreds http://photos.denverpost.com/mediacenter/2012/06/photos-waldo-fire-aerial-photos-by-the-denver-post-staff/38644/ It is such a pretty area of the world. 24h du Mans - Anthony Davidson spectacular crash
CanuckInUSA replied to piisfish's topic in The Bonfire
I watched much of the race. Though I missed this crash when it happened live, I have seen the replay tons of times. The Ferrari GT driver turned into ANT, no question about it. However there were tons of times in this race when the faster proto-type car tangled with the slower GT car. It's just the nature of the beast of mixed class racing. The bottom line is ANT was not seriously hurt though I do believe he fractured a couple of vertebra and hopefully ANT will be back doing his usual F1 race commentary over at the Sky Sports Network though I suspect he is done for any racing this summer. The quality of play in the modern game is amazing. Go back 30-40 years and watch a game from that era. The pace of the game in the modern era is just so much faster. Go back 30-40 years and watch a football, baseball, soccer or basketball game and ignoring the poorer image quality of the TV broadcasts, there really is not that much different in these games from years gone by and the modern era. But the difference in the pace of the game in hockey is there right in front of your face and so plain to see. Don't get me wrong the game was still awesome back then. Thanks to a couple of specialty cable TV channels I get I recently watched the Flyers/Bruins cup clinching game from 1974, watched the cup clinching Habs/Flyers, Habs/Bruins games from 1976 and 1977 as well was watched the cup clinching Islanders/Flyers and Oilers/Islanders games from 1980 and 1984. These were all great games, but the pace of the game in the modern era is just so much faster. Yes this is good stuff. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I don't normally cheer for the Kings, but since I have been on their bandwagon from day #1 of these playoffs, there is no reason for me to get off of it now. I like the Kings chances but the Devils are the Devils. They have been here before and they have one of the game's best ever goalies (who is still playing well) between the pipes. Let's hope every game (whether it is only 4 games or 7) is a competitive hard fought game. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I was wondering if Doan was going to beat down on Brown in the post game handshake lineup. But I guess not. Seconds after play resumed following the hit I said to myself "The best thing for Dustin Brown would be for the Kings to score now while Doan and Brown were on the bench" and low and behold, that is exactly what they did. Congrats to the Kings for returning to the finals 19 years after the last time they were there. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

For the record I jumped onto the Kings bandwagon once I found out they would be playing Vancouver in the 1st round (oh and job well done beating those Canuckleheads). So while technically I am a bandwagon Kings fan, at least I have been on the wagon from day #1 of these playoffs and judging by the remaining teams still fighting for Lord Stanley's Cup, there is no need to jump off of the wagon this season. haha Now can the Kings do something the Blues and yes the Leafs have been unable to do since 1967 (add the Canuckleheads and the Sabres into the mix as well if you want to start counting since 1970). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

So far the Kings have looked very good this playoff season. But as you say they are only half way there. I think I still stay aboard the Kings wagon (assuming Kings fans will have me ... LOL). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Funny thing here, besides Levon Helm (who was US born in Arkansas), the rest of the original members of the "The Band" were actually from Ontario Canada. Underrated in America? Yes ... underrated Americans? Not quite. "Blame Canada, Blame Canada" (sung in my best Southpark voice) Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
