You just showed your lack of knowledge of firearms. The AK47 fires a smaller round (7.62x39mm) than your standard .308 hunting rifle fires (7.62x51mm). Your standard hunting rifle is a lot more powerful than an AK47. AK47s can just be dragged through sand, mud and water and still work. One of the reasons why they are so popular throughout the world. There is only one poll that counts and that is the poll on election day. I have already seen this election play itself out a few short months ago but on a smaller scale. What am I talking about? Here in Alberta (you know the place that has the 2nd largest Oil reserves in the World), we had a Provincial election where the incumbent "Alberta Progressive Conservative Party" (conservative in name only) put their 41 year dynasty of rule on the line. For years Liberals have been crying fowl with how corrupt and how incompetent the Alberta PC Party was and finally after years of supporting the PC Party, Alberta conservatives final saw the light and spun off a new conservative party called "The Wildrose Party". Alberta is the most conservative province in Canada and the Wildrose Party was so far ahead in the polls during the early parts of the election, it was clear that the PC Party was going down. But the media is in bed with the ruling PC Party and while yes a couple of Wildrose candidates said some dumb remarks on the campaign trail which the media jumped all over, there were people from the PC Party who were making the exact same remarks. Did the media report this? Of course not. Instead the media launched into a "Campaign of Fear" against the Wildrose while they ignored the corruption and incompetence of the PC Party. So it's election day, the polls say the Wildrose have lost some support, but the polls are still predicting a Wildrose victory. But once all the votes are counted, yes the Alberta PC Party lost a lot of support in the popular vote, but they did manage to win yet another large majority and their dynasty of rule has now been extended to 45 years. What happened? Why were the polls so wrong? Liberals who for years were calling the Alberta PC Party corrupt abandoned their own Liberal Party and voted en mass for the corrupt and incompetent PC Party. The Liberal Party was decimated in the election. Where did all the Liberal votes go? Liberals sure as fuck would not be supporting the Wildrose Party. Do the math. Now this isn't an apples to apples comparison. Here in Alberta there were four political parties in play whereas the US election only has two. But I believe the Alberta election was a litmus test for how the media can manipulate elections for their bigger prize, the 2012 US Presidential election. No Polls mean shit, especially when the media is manipulating them. There is only one poll that counts and that is the poll on election day. Ignore all the other ones. LOL ... I had a similar story but I was 16 instead of 17 and I didn't punch him in the face. My NAZI step-monster (he was a real NAZI as he grew up as a Hitler Youth on the other side of WWII and his slightly older brother fought in Russia during the war), err I mean step-father blind sided me one morning with a punch to the head for coming home late after a night out on the town. I push him across the hall, over his bed and was about to begin pounding on him when something in the back of my head said "stop". So I did, I cleaned off the blood from my face and life was never the same after that day. I was no angel as a young buck, but I was also no criminal. Growing up with a NAZI was not easy, but the step-monster did do something good for me at the time which did take a few months for me to realize why it was good. He basically sent me off to a reserves armed forces military unit for the summer and they taught me how to be responsible and self sufficient. Drill sucked ass, but I got to shoot machine guns and that was fun. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Curious, when are the Democrats planning on releasing another video where they use a child to tell Americans to "Wake the #### Up" for the unsustainable entitlement spending that is screwing the child over with a bill they have no hope in hell in being able to pay once the child becomes an adult. Of course the Democrats will never release such a video. The Republicans are not innocent, the Republicans have plenty of baggage of their own. But it is pretty pathetic how the Democrats use children for their partisan BS. For crying out loud there is no way this child knows what is in store for her and she is clearly being used by dishonest people. Wake the #### Up America (both Donkeys and Elephants). Your entitlements are NOT sustainable. You could take 100% of the assets of the "hated" rich and it would barely pay the bill for one year. But how are you planning to pay for the entitlements in the following years? That is the video I would like to see, a video where a child is telling the adults to stop screwing them over with their culture of unsustainable entitlements and culture of envy. What did they know and when did they know it?

The US government lies to the American people about what is going on in places like Afghanistan and Libya. http://wizbangblog.com/2012/10/11/cbss-lara-logan-the-obama-administration-is-lying-to-you-about-afghanistan/ But fear not, Obama will tell you everything you need to know the next time he is a guest on The View, Letterman, or on The Daily Show. Lindsey Vonn to compete in Mens WC Downhill?
CanuckInUSA replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in Speakers Corner
If she was to start last they would be setting her up for failure seeing as it is impossible to set a good time on the course after it is chewed up. Plus it could be dangerous given the higher speeds the men's course obtains. Having her start around 25th might be best but many people might not understand why this would be, so yeah maybe letting her start 1st would be the way to go. Lindsey Vonn to compete in Mens WC Downhill?
CanuckInUSA replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in Speakers Corner
Another thing to factor in here if she was allowed to compete in the Men's race, is what start position would she be given? Every race is different as the conditions are never the same, but the optimal starting position for a Downhill race is usually somewhere between #10 and #20. On most days start position #1 is not the best because the course is not at it's fastest, it is not glazed over enough. But when you get a later start position after the 30s, the course could be really chewed up by then and impossible to set a good time on. On the World Cup they put all the top rank skiers into a hat and their start positions are randomly drawn. But if you are not one of the top ranked racers, your start position is your current World ranking. Because Lindsey is not ranked on the Men's circuit where would she start? She will definitely not do well in the race if she starts last where she is ranked, but does she deserve a top 20 starting position? Maybe they would compromise and let her start around 25th? Who knows ... will she even be allowed to race? Only time will tell. If she does race, I might have to head up there to watch it. I am less than a two hours drive away from the resort. Lindsey Vonn to compete in Mens WC Downhill?
CanuckInUSA replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in Speakers Corner
The World Cup skiing events for men and women are always on ice. They purposely scrap down the course and put down a fertilizer like chemical to make the course as hard and as icy as possible. Not only for speed but also to limit the amount the course will deteriorate from one skier to the next. The only real noticeable difference between the men's and women's courses at Lake Louise is where they start from. The men start at the summit and build up tons of speed on the Headwall. I would agree with Kelpdiver here. Let her race with the men if she is willing to skip the following week when the women race. Of course she would be giving up the chance to win valuable World Cup points if she skipped the women's event. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Lindsey Vonn to compete in Mens WC Downhill?
CanuckInUSA replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in Speakers Corner
American female skier (one of the most successful women ever in the women's World Cup downhill event) is asking the FIS for the right to compete against the men in an upcoming Downhill race at Lake Louise in November to raise the profile of female skiing. http://sports.nationalpost.com/2012/10/06/lindsey-vonn-asks-to-compete-in-mens-downhill-at-lake-louise/ Lindsey is an awesome skier (not to mention she is hot) but come on Lindsey, is this more of a publicity stunt to raise your profile? I used to patrol at Lake Louise back in the 1990s and I also dabbled in some ski racing myself (only at the club level as I did not have the money to pursue the sport at a more serious level). When the men and women came to the Lake for their World Cup races, I naturally volunteered to work the courses as it was a great opportunity to see the best in the world up close and rub elbows with them and during the free ski opportunities I could pretty much keep up to the women (don't get me wrong I could keep up to them but they were still better skiers). But there was no hope whatsoever in trying to keep up to the men when they free skied. It was not even worth trying. I would likely kill myself if I tried to go as fast as they could ski. On the surface I say "Knock yourself out Lindsey" let her try. We know where she will be finishing. But there is also a rule that states "No racer is supposed to ski on a race course a week prior to his or her own competition". The men's downhill at the Lake starts on the summit and they build tons of speed on the Headwall while the women start just below the Headwall. But from that point on they are pretty much skiing the same slope though the turns on the two courses will differ. So yeah Lindsey would be getting an extra week of training at the Lake prior to the rest of the women showing up. Publicity stunt? an extra week of training? Both or something else? When you ascend a mountain you are giving your heart and your lungs a good workout. But it is the descent that makes you sore the next day. All that pounding can really do a number on your knees and other body parts, Those hiking poles (similar to ski poles) do help, but you will still take a pounding coming down. Bettman is a pin head, no argument there. But this is more than just a "blame the owners" scenario. Both the owners and the players are showing their greed and the losers are the fans. There was a time when going to an NHL hockey game was affordable entertainment. That time is long gone. Of course that is the nature of the entertainment business. There was a time when going to the movies or going to a rock concert was affordable as well. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I don't think Obama is stupid, he just does not believe in many of the things he was struggling to say during the debate. If you actually believe in something, it comes naturally to your head. It is second nature as the thoughts go from your brain to your speech. When you speak a second language, you can not translate in your head, you have to think the language. Does anyone actually think Obama believes in the free market? If they do maybe I can interest them in a nice ocean front time share property during the late Spring and early Summer months in Bangladesh. Obama is nothing more than the Hollywood President. He had no time to meet with other world leaders when they are in the country but he has plenty of time to appear on "The View" and on "Letterman". As a former NHL season ticket holder who was driven away from the sport after the last lockout in 2004/2005, I say F### them. F### the out of touch millionaire players and F### the billionaire owners. The last time around all the clubs still wanted their season ticket holders to fork out 100% of the money for the games (which included pre-season games) even though we all knew the games would be cancelled, The clubs said don't worry we will just hold on to your money and use it next year. F### that. That was the straw that broke the camel's back. I was royally pissed off the last time, but this time around I could care less about the NHL. F### them all ... the owners and the players. Not sure what debate you were watching where Obama was the winner, but surely it was not the same debate everyone else saw. Even Obama's friends in the media are saying today that Romney was the winner. Looks like Clint was right, take away the teleprompter and Obama is an empty chair the way he constantly had to stop mid speech and think "what was it that they told me to say". If Obama actually believed in what he was saying, it would come naturally to him, he would not need to pause and think. Oh and there is absolutely nothing free about Universal Healthcare, unless of course you are one of those people who do not pay any tax for the social welfare state, and if we did share the same country all I could say is "you are welcome". Obama asked to intervene in IRS assault on Canadian residents
CanuckInUSA replied to aphid's topic in Speakers Corner
As long as the Canadian citizen can severe their residency ties to Canada, they do NOT have to file income tax returns on the income they earn while out of the country. I lived in Colorado for 8 years and the only income tax I paid to Canada during that time period was for the rental income I made while renting out my house in Calgary. I did not have to declare any of the income I made in Colorado to Revenue Canada. Oh and I don't recall having to file any special one time document when I returned to Canada. I just filed a normal tax return once I started earning income for my normal career upon my return. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
You've wrongly singled out Europeans here. The same thing is very much happening across the pond in North America. It is a sad state of affairs. It used to be in America when you looked at the Jones and rightfully or wrongfully envied what they had, people would make sacrifices and go the extra mile to achieve their dreams. These days when some envies the Jones, their reaction is "I want what they have and I will use wealth redistribution to get it". But what do you expect. It's only going to get worse over time since we are raising children in a sanitized world where they never learn the lessons of winning and losing. Not sure if they are doing this in Europe, but here in Canada we are taking competition out of sports for our children because they feel children should not be exposed to the emotions of losing and these children are growing up not learning the lessons of how to overcome losing. Pretty soon we won't need to worry about ambitious people having more than other people because we are raising a whole generation of people with no drive what so ever to do anything in the world. We are raising a generation of people who will expect someone else (the government) to give them everything they need in life. What a sad state of affairs we as a society are heading towards. Life is very much about winning and losing and learning lessons from these experiences. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Yes just ignore the issues in the election. Just ignore the extremely poor economy, just ignore that Obama added 5 trillion worth of additional debt in his four years, just ignore that Obama only plans on spending even more money if he gets re-elected. All that matters is that he apparently likes to drink a beer. Would I have a beer with Obama? Of course I would, but I wouldn't be having a beer just because he is Obama. No I would be having a beer because I had a beer in my hands. You tell me, what is more important? The out of control and unsustainable entitlement spending? Or that Obama says he likes to drink beer? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Do the poor care about the poor? There was a time when the USA was a nation of doers, a nation where people would do whatever it took to better themselves and their families. But the USA is slowly turning into a nation of takers, people who are dependent on their government entitlements. Neither the Donkeys nor the Elephants have a positive track record to run on. But what is more laughable than these two sad sack political entities is the fact that there are a growing number of people who will sit back, do nothing to better themselves and expect one of these two political entities to deliver them entitlements promised on the campaign trail. One size does not fit all. For people lucky enough to live in regions where hydro-electricity can be used to generate their power, well they need not worry too much about their carbon foot print on the planet (of course I do hope they realize that massive hydro-electric projects do have their own local ecological impacts such as massive flooding). Yes one size does not fit all. Some can claim that they can use solar for 100% of their needs, but these people do not live in cold climates where the temperatures can dip into the -30s and -40s and for those who get to experience arctic temperatures during the winter months, we only see about eight hours (or less) of the sun around the winter solstice. Yes solar panels could be used to supplement our electrical needs, but they can not be our sole source. Plus I have to plead ignorance on one topic, how well do solar panels hold up during hail storms? One size does not fit all. Some of use do not have access to hydro power, some of us get to deal with arctic temperatures and only see eight hours (or less) or the sun during the winter. On a related note, a few weeks ago I read about a new motorsports racing series that was trying to get started. It is called "Formula E" which is supposed to rival "Formula 1" (I even heard rumors that they were trying to get disgruntled F1 driver Lewis Hamilton to join the series but I can't see the Brit jumping ranks, at least not yet). Anyway it would be interesting to see what would happen in the FE racing series. I know I would miss the sounds the F1 cars make, oh and they were saying they did need to make pit stops during their races. But instead of your standard refueling (done in some not all racing series) and changing tires, the drivers in this FE series would be forced to change cars (LOL can you imagine a racing series where the drivers sit in the pits for a few hours while their batteries recharge, yeah that is something I want to watch). So the teams will have to build about 2-3 cars per driver for the races alone (little talk about if multiple cars would be used in practice and qualifying) and little talk about what source of electricity would be used to charge the batteries. From a marketing point of view, I see why the FIA wants to see this "Formula Electric" series to become a reality, but I can't see how it would be cheaper if they want the FE cars to have the same performance capabilities that the F1 cars have. Hybrid cars are now a reality in the Lemans endurance racing series being used with success, except that the Hybrid technology being used in endurance racing is a completely different technology that what is available for modern road production Hybrids. So 100% electric powered racing cars still have a way to go before they replace carbon powered racing cars. http://www.formula1blog.com/2011/08/20/fia-launches-new-formula-electric-racing-series/ Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Without a doubt humans do influence the planet's ecology, but I am a skeptic that humans are solely responsible for our ever changing climate and I thoroughly believe in evolution. In fact I believe in evolution so much that I have a strong belief that life on this planet will continue to evolve for billions and billions more years up until the point when that great big ball in the sky 93 million miles from us burns up. Only when that great big ball in the sky begins it's path to it's end will life on this planet cease to exist. Yes I believe in evolution. But my question to you is, with your obvious "Climate Change" religious beliefs, why have you given up on evolution? Do you honestly believe live on this planet is about to end? Good grief ... I am not in favor of Obama earning a 2nd go at POTUS, but it is wrong to place blame like this on the man. Afghanistan is one of the most messed up countries you will ever see and it does not matter if Bush, Obama or Romney is Prez, Afghanistan will continue to be one of the most messed up countries. Blaming Obama is just more partisan BS. Blame Obama for his poor anti business protectionist handling of the US economy ... absolutely yes yes yes. But do not blame Obama for Afghanistan being the lost cause cesspool of the world. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
