Moab is the only town nearby. There really isn't anything out there (even though it is a very pretty part of the country). Grand Junction is a little more than an hour away and Salt Lake City will be several hours (at least 3 if memory serves correct). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Do you know of the accuracy trick? While under canopy, look at some objects on the ground. Some of those objects will steadily be moving towards your feet (you will over fly these objects) and some objects will steadily move up towards the horizon (you will land short of these objects). Finally, there will be a spot on the ground which doesn't move. If nothing changes (wind and canopy control inputs), this is where you will land. LOL ... that's exactly where I have my two altimeters as well. But I only use the leg mounted altimeter to help myself setup for my landings (it's a tool to help me learn the sight picture for my swoops). On a side note, I agree with Ron about building up our altitude awareness based on our experiences, but at the same time Andy2 does makes some good points about impressionable newbies reading these forums. The existence of an internal clock will happen to all those that jump often enough, but one can never trust the internal clock on each and every jump as there are just too many variables. Case in point my first few jumps in FL a few weeks ago. There I was with probably another 1k of altitude to play with before break off time, yet my internal clock was blarring already. Why? Because I normally jump at higher altitudes where the air is thinner and the skydives are shorter. Now take someone who normally jumps at sea level and then they come up here to altitude. If they souly relied on their internal clock, they could go low on the skydive. Anyway with experience, people will learn their clocks, and sight pictures of what certain altitudes look like (watching the horizon) and so on and so forth. Align yourself perpendicular to the flight line and don't spend more than 5-8 seconds head down (learning to sit first goes without saying). Good luck and welcome to the fun side. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

You may have meant "Peers" (and now it all makes sense), but it sure sounds like "Peters". Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Dang ... and here's my future wife already planning on cheating on me. That's it, you can have the kids, I'm taking the rigs. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

It's kind of interesting. Belly fliers tend to not like freefliers and freefliers just ignore the belly fliers. Kind of like the ole' snowboard versus skier thing (and I'm a skier, but also a freeflier). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

SquareOne lists the ProTrack at $275 and the ProDytter at $171. For me, the ProTrack is worth the extra $100, but this may not be the case for others. Keep in mind that for some people, the ProTrack acts as their log book. The only problem with using the ProTrack as your only log book is what will you do if/when the ProTrack fails and all this nifty-neat-o logged jump info is lost. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

The ProTrack will log information about your jump (such as altitude jumped from, deployment altitude, time in freefall, average speed, max speed, etc, etc, etc.) while the ProDytter only works as an audible. Plus I feel that the ProTracks are louder than the ProDytters. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Boulder CO LOL ... forgive me if I don't get this 100% right as I'm doing it form memory, but: "Yah Sonic, that was fun. That was fun. In group in front of all these Petrs at the Nationals". Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

It's still very much up in the air (thanks to work), but I may show my mug shot at Eloy this up and coming Thanksgiving holiday weekend for a day or two. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I haven't jumped while it is snowing (I have jumped in light rain though and it hurts). But I have landed with snow on the ground and it's fun surfing the slippery surface (assuming the snow is not very deep). I can't wait for this winter as I should be able to surf even further than I did last winter. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Who was the one who said this in the Ground Rush flic "Hooks turns are when you screwed up and have to go to the hospital". Kevin Gibson? It's a little dated, but there's some good info in your Ground Rush and Breakaway videos. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

My ProTrack fits inside of my Hawkeye helmet and I have no trouble hearing it. I did at one point have a couple of ProDytters, but I sold them because I felt they weren't very loud (compared to the ProTrack). One other thing. Audibles are good (almost essential for freefliers), but hopefully you've built up enough altitude awareness both visually as well as mentally (assuming your jump numbers on your profile are up to date). You don't want to become overly reliant on your audible. They do fail (I've been on at least one jump where my ProTrack stopped working). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

We skydivers really need to try and spread the word to our climbing and mountain biking friends who often play in Moab about your new drop zone. I think you've got yourself a great location if the word gets out as Moab attracts adventurous people. Having $20 9k Cessna jumps is a bit of a bummer, but I guess you've got to start somewhere right. What will you charge us for 4k hop n' pops? The next time I visit Moab on a climbing/biking trip, I'll make my way out there for some jumps (and hopefully bring some whuffo friends for some tandems). But the problem is, that lately I haven't been spending too much time with the climbing and mountain biking people. I've been too busy skydiving. By the way, I like the web site. Some pics of the DZ from altitude would be a nice addition. But it sounds like you guys aren't quite up and running yet. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Queer Eye for the Straight Guy-- Best Show Ever?
CanuckInUSA replied to kelel01's topic in The Bonfire
Yes while the rest of society was watching shows for enhancing people's vanity, I was watching an interesting show on PBS about our solar system and earth's next encounter with a large meteor and/or comet. And low and behold the nifty-neat-o rock I picked up at the Pueblo reservoir a few years ago just might end up being a meteorite. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Queer Eye for the Straight Guy-- Best Show Ever?
CanuckInUSA replied to kelel01's topic in The Bonfire
A bunch of people from work got together last night to watch this show and when I was asked if I wanted to attend, I laughed and said "I'm a skydiver, why would I even think about watching crap like that. I'd rather watch some skydiving videos". Reality TV shows are for people with no reality in their lives. Now who wants to jump? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -

I understand that the IOC is planning on letting transsexuals compete in future Olympics games. So maybe AggieDave is going to have a snip here, a tuck there and before you know it, she'll be on the athletics field throwing some shot put in the Olympics. Not true. We may not jump all 52 weeks of the year, but we do jump all 12 months of the year. The threshold seems to be 40 degrees F. If the ground temps are above 40, then people seem to show up at the DZ (assuming the skies are clear which they often are) and if the ground temps are below 40, then not that many people seem to show up at the DZ. Hi ... Don't be a stranger. Come on out to Mile-Hi and/or Brush. This way you'll get to know some of us CO jumpers and it'll make doing things together easier. I'm in Boulder and Fort Collins is about an hour away, so it's not always easy to visit. But Fort Collins is a neat place with some neat bars.
