  1. Well I knew this day was coming (so I shouldn't be surprised), but I was dealt my latest round of team politics/drama with my co-ed volleyball team last night. You see, I'm the captain of a team with two 6'5" guys, a girl who dates one of those guys who is our best female but is nowhere as good as she thinks she is (kind of like a skygod in our sport) and then two more girls (who have gotten better, but likely don't have the skill to proceed to the competitive levels). Anyway, my two towers are apparently very frustrated that the team is stuck in the challenge division instead of the competitive division (we're in the middle of three division skill levels) and they want to more up. But the league manager won't move us up as is (I hate to say it, but our females are holding us back). Now it's debatable as to whether or not I belong in comp. except to say that I am the scraper and hussler of the team, while the twin towers are the power. Well the two towers plus our better female wants to replace the other two girls and they say that they still want me on the team. But if this happens, the league will force me to give up the captaincy and in the future I can see myself being replaced as well (of course my future in Colorado is very much in the air to begin with what with my temporary resident status and the poor job market). So what should I do? I am a competitive type of person who strives at being challenged in sports, but this will also mean hurting two friends and set myself up to be possibly replaced. Of my three main sports I currently participate in, two are going through major drama stages (volleyball and skydiving). Hockey is the only sport, that allows me to be me without the politics and the drama. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  2. I was just going to say that. Great minds think alike? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  3. I hope you are feeling better this morning. One thing to keep in mind is that your maturity level is likely much higher compared to the maturity levels of the guys (in your age bracket) that you would date. Women mature faster than us men. I don't know if this is your issue, but it can explain a lot of differences between the sexes at those every so early adult years. Keep your head up alligator as better days are around the corner. Me on the other hand, well that is a different issue. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  4. If all you are interested in is rapping, no you don't need any specialized shoes. The climbing shoes are nice and will make climbing easier. But if there are enough features (or cracks), then a decent pair of running shoes might do the trick. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  5. I will likely have my Jeep Wrangler with me meaning that I can take an additional 2-3 people (depending on gear). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  6. Sunshine only uses me for my Kenny jacket. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  7. Can't recognize sarcasm I see. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  8. Well if all they did was hop n' pop swoops, then no I don't think it would be a good match. But if the hop n' pop'in was just something that they occasionally do when it's been a while since their last swoop, then I think it would be okay. Hey waiting until you burn in isn't that bad of a thing. Of course you'll just have to wait until I bounce from hook turn gone bad. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  9. I've largely ignored this thread, so I honestly don't know what it's about. But my dear future wife (or was that future wife, future ex-wife), not only am I a freeflier (sometimes I'm good, sometimes I'm not), but I'm also one of those hop n' pop swoopers as well. See you in under a month. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  10. Hey I was walking around in a t-shirt today at lunch. T-shirts in Colorado in December does not sound very cold to me. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  11. I sure hope you're not telling our original poster to resort to their belly skills while on a freefly jump. Arcing hard because you've become unstable on a freefly jump has a way of killing people more than saving them. But this is out of the context of this thread. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  12. For those of you out there not fortunate enough to have personally met Sangiro, let me tell you that he is one really nice cool cat. Here's to the guy who's made us all DZ.COMers!!! Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  13. I am a fairly big guy (in the skydiver's world) at 190-200 lbs and fast fall rates have been one of my bigger skydiving challenges (especially when head down). Believe it or not, a couple of months ago while in Rantoul I asked a very experienced freefly tunnel coach how I could slow down. Now you think he'd give me this answer of doing a daffy this way (or some other way to slow down my body). But no. His response was to wear baggier clothing. So I ran out and picked up myself an $8 XXXL sweat shirt and it has done wonders to my head down freeflying. So ... I'm mentioning all of this because you don't necessarily need to run out and spend a bunch of $$$ on a freefly suit. You could get yourself a sweat shirt (maybe not a XXXL like me though) and some tight pants around the calves and thighs when learning to sit and baggy pants when learning head down (by the way, doing head down jumps is not something you should be thinking about at this time). And if you'd like, you could then spend the saved money on an RW suit. But don't forget, when it's time to buy a freefly suit, flashy colors earn you brownie points. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  14. I think the only real hurdle to doing RW with a FF suit is that there are no gripers. But if your FF suit is floppy enough, the other people should be able to grap onto your floppy suit. But if it's a skin tight FF suit, it could be hard to grap onto anything. So the next question is, are you a reasonably big person and thus would be using a floppy suit) or are you a small person (using a tight suit). If you are small and want to do RW, then you will likely need an RW suit. But if you have a floppy suit, then you may be able to use it on RW jumps. 15. That's fine and dandy to say as long as you acknowledge that the majority of the drug consumers are white folks from the suburbs. So much for staying out of this thread. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  16. Yes and if you read my original post in this thread, you should notice that I recommended to the original poster that they spend some time on their belly learning how to fly relative to others before they venture into freeflying. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  17. Told you the belly fliers would freak out. Freedom means choice and I choose to do: 1) Freeflying 2) Swooping 3) Tracking These are the only discipline's I am currently interested in (who knows maybe I'll change in the future). Am I a complete skydiver? Hell no. But I have my freeflying, swooping and tracking goals and until those are realized, I choose to concentrate on just these and only these disciplines. I have almost zero interest in RW. Once again the original poster asked what sort of suit should they buy (keeping in mind they said they thought they were more interested in freeflying). If money is no issue, then sure buy everything and anything to equipe yourself in this sport. But if money is an issue, why buy something you may not use? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  18. At the risk of offending the ever so sensitive RW folks, if you know you want to freefly why spend money on an RW suit. I have an RW suit which does nothing but collect dust now. I wish I had known before that I was going to become a freeflier off of AFF as I never would have wasted money on this RW suit. Oh well, live and learn I guess. One other thing though. Unless you are going to be doing a shit load of jumps off of AFF, I wouldn't suggest trying to learn to freefly too soon off of AFF. Learning to fly relative others is not trivial and neither is learning to freefly. And if you're trying to do both of these at the same time soon off of AFF, you might find things tough. Freeflying rocks, but it's not easy to learn and it's recommended that you've got some experience flying relative to others before you come to the dark side. 19. Actually the control range of flaring with your rears is less than when using your toggles and your canopy will stall at a higher air speed when flaring with your rears. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  20. For sure a polar bear, but I also think I was some sort of bird as well as I just love being in the air. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  21. I second that. Of course I'm no better myself. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  22. 0:10:1 No humps ... Ten jumps ... Beer owed for having to land in the airplane instead of jumping (because of squirelly winds) for the time. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  23. Nice ... if time and weather permit, I will swing by Moab on my way to Eloy for the Holiday Boogie. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

  25. Sadam was/is evil. But I fear for America as this could be another Vietnam (maybe even worse). I see no solution except that many more good America soldiers will die in the months/years to come. And GWB's little Thanksgiving visit isn't going to make much of a difference in the big picture. It was balls'y alright. But once again, a Class Act? I say in the months/years to come, it will be an irrelevant visit which will be forgotten. Are the families of America's service men and women going to care that GWB visited Iraq, or will they care more that their loved ones come home.
