  1. Well I don't think the problem is legal gun ownership as well. But I do question the rational of when people choose to use their guns. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  2. I can understand why people who don't like Michael Moore do not like this movie, but the fact remains that Americans kill Americans with guns at an astronomically high number than any other modern society. Why? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  3. At least I can fly on my head. Okay, I know that was a low blow. It just doesn't matter. By the way, I was unable to jump at all this weekend. So I'm still 25 jumps away from my 500th and Mother Nature (and work) will have some influence as to whether or not I do my 500th before or during the Holiday boogie. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  4. It has personnally happened to myself and yes I was very happy that the reserve stayed in the container (I could be dead otherwise). But my old reserve was considered somewhat large (though in spec) for the container and have since downsized one reserve size. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  5. 0:0:0 Temporary winter weather blew through the state this weekend and prevented me from jumping. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  6. I can't jump. It's snowing outside. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  7. Nope, you're good for now as I don't feel the need to sleep with a loaded gun and my pillow. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  8. Yes I recall that thread but didn't partiticpate because I had yet to see the movie. And I just did a search for "Bowling for Columbine" and this one came up as the first hit. So what are you going to do, shot me because I brought up the wrong thread? Dang ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  9. Thanks to some snowy unjumpable weather in Colorado today, I found myself in the video store renting a movie for the first time in ages. I was there to get the "Two Towers" Lord of the Rings flic, but I was too late. Instead I picked out the "Bowling for Columbine" movie and watched it for the first time. I liked it. Like him or not, Michael Moore is concerned about the gun violence in the United States and he brings up many interesting things people should talk amongst each other about. Why is it that America has such a high gun murder rate? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  10. Unfortunately the game will not be shown south of the border (I guess watchin reality tv shows is more important). So I won't get to see it. But I think it's an outstanding event. I just hope it's not too cold up in Edmonchuck this evening. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  11. You tell us. Are you a skydiver or are you a consumer? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  12. A couple of questions come to mind: 1) How did they progress from a novice canopy pilot to an expert? 2) Do they like to bang their front riser hooks or do they like carving hooks more? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  13. The lower canopy. Hopefully people flying camera and swooping have certain avoidance skills under canopy that a lesser experienced canopy pilot would have (of course never assume anything under canopy). And swoopers need to know when it's okay to proceed with their swoop and when to abort it. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  14. I wouldn't want you to start performing things with your canopy that you are not used to. But there are a number of ways to lose altitude: 1) Small S-turns (not my preferred method). 2) Sink in under breaks (you need to return to full flight before flaring). 3) Use your front risers (double fronts). But as always, practice any new canopy skills up high before you do them low to the ground. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  15. Nope ... but 17 is. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  16. You will make great progress with the more experienced jumpers if you: 1) Hang out afterwards to talk. 2) Bring beer. 3) Ask questions. 4) Listen. 5) Bring more beer. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  17. I have a different mind set as I feel it's much easier to lose altitude than to preserve it and would thus rather be a little high on my target than to land short. But that's just me. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  18. If you are referring to the x-gf, well it's too late for that. But this even younger girl I speak of does work at a DZ as a packer and will be starting her AFF soon. But 17 (soon to be 18) is too young (being on topic with this thread) for me. But if someone who's in their 20s was to become interested in this camper, well who's to argue. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  19. Oh hell no ... how could I be mad at my future wife? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  20. In this context, I like what MyOwnWay said "age is only a number, maturity is much deeper". I recently met a girl who is ... aghh 17 ... much too young for a guy like me. But this girl carried a maturity level about her beyond her years. I felt like I was talking to someone in their mid 20s as opposed to a teenager. But as I said, she was much too young for me. But I've also come to the conclusion that I'd likely be better off with a woman who jumps (a freeflier is just an added bonus) as whuffos just don't get my mindset. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  21. Earlier this year I dated a girl substatially younger than myself and age wasn't an issue whatsoever (I look and act a lot younger than I am). What made the relationship fail was the fact that she was a whuffo and I spent too much time away from her jumping. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  22. I'm not advocating loading a reserve very high, but don't mix up an old tired F-111 canopy with thousands of jumps on it with a reserve with less than a handful of jumps (maybe zero jumps). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  23. I just took the test and got "Arwen". Dang, the last time I looked, I wasn't a girl. I guess I better book an appointment to go see a doctor in Trinidad CO. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  24. The worst part about vacations is that they end. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
  25. http://www.zovakware.com/tests/lordoftherings.htm I'd be an Orc (likely a dead one). Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
