My Recent Fox News and CNN Appearances (Guns on College Campuses)
CanuckInUSA replied to Douva's topic in Speakers Corner
I won't argue that crime is not part of the real world. But it is a rather sad state for society where people wake up each morning thinking that they need to be carrying a gun with them everywhere they go. Personally I've never felt that I needed to walk around armed to the teeth ready to beat the other guy to the trigger for [insert whatever reason you want here]. As I said, it is a sad state for a society who thinks being armed to the teeth is a good thing. A society who is ready and willing to blow each other away for [insert your favorite threat here] just shows you how much people in this society care about each other. Just my two cents. PS: I watched both videos and Douva did a good job portraying himself as a responsible, rational person. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
NUTS - how about we voice our opinions on crappy behavior everywhere (these societies, AS WELL AS our own backyard)? I never said people could NOT voice their opinions. I said they needed to keep them in check. There is a difference. I just find it ironic that some people are so quick to slam other societies when mass murder happens on this side of the world. Not in reference to what you have said, but far too many people are oblivous to how barbaric some aspects of North American society appear to be in other parts of the world. When the mass killings stop on this side of the world, then we can go around telling other societies how barbaric they are. But you know the next mass shooting or the next spousal murder is just around the corner here. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Video on the net of 418 ft swoop??????

678 feet (Jay Moledski) and the record is 2 1/2 years old now. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
This is a barbaric story. But people on this side of the world really need to keep their opinions in check (not said in reference to anything specific Darius said) because I think it is equally barbaric the way mass shootings seems to occur almost on a monthly basis here. And it is not just school shootings. There is no shortage of domestic violence on this side of the world where one spouse (usually the husband but sometimes the wife) kills the other spouse and kills their children. No I am sorry we are nothing more than hypocrites to be calling certain nations barbaric when similar crap is happening on this side of the world. Maybe in past elections. But look at the demographics of who is voting for who this time around. Old left leaning people are voting for Clinton, old right leaning people are voting for McCain, evangelicals are voting for Huckleberry and everyone else is voting for Obama. I don't agree with Obama's "spending" policies but one can not ignore that young, old, black, white, easterners, westerners and people in the middle have been supporting Obama. The beer comments was a joke. But there are many disenfranchised people who are getting involved now where they did not get involved in the past (war has a way of doing that to people). Nope McCain is going to have to buy a lot of beer if he wants to beat Obama. Of course the Democrat's super deligates or a severe case of Obama lead poisioning before next January could still save McCain. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
-
I'm beginning to think that McCain could name Jesus as his running mate and it still would not stop Obama from becoming the next prez. No McCain's only hope is to send millions of kegs of beer to all the universities in America the night before the general election in November. Of course the super delegates of the Democrats could still install Hillary as their leader (just showing the world the state of America's so called democracy) and then McCain could save a lot of money on beer. Without a doubt Michael Jordan was an elite athlete (arguably the best ever basketball player) and I'm sure he would have done better in baseball had he concentrated on the sport from the get go. Not that I would know, but it has been described that batting at the MLB level is one of the hardest things to do in sports. These guys are considered heros when they "only" fail at 7 out of every 10 attempts at bat. Too bad baseball is such a slow sport when the ball is not in play, because it is a pretty cool sport when the ball is in play. Plus as much as many people didn't like Deion Sanders, you have to acknowledge his ability to play in the elite levels of the NFL as a star and then play at the elite levels of MLB the next day (Bo Jackson was another one who did played both sports at such a high level). Anyway I am off track ... Like others have said, the children should not be pushed into competitive activities. But to deny them access "because it's politically correct to not let them experience the agnoy of defeat" will only turn us into a society of dysfunctional lemmings willing to be controlled by others. One must learn to deal with winning and losing since life has no shortage of winning and losing. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
-
But that didn't stop Michael Jordon from thinking he was a baseball player. PS: The notion of non-competitive activities for children is a joke. The sooner people learn how to handle the highs of winning and the lows of losing, the sooner they will be able to handle all the curve balls life throws at us. "You can't always get what you what. Does this clip make you want to become a vegetarian?
CanuckInUSA replied to RkyMtnHigh's topic in Speakers Corner
I saw something on the news last night which was interesting. It seems that a lot of wheat farmers have switched to corn in the quest to produce more ethanol geared towards alternate fuels. So with society's quest to become a tad more green, we are not producing enough wheat to feed people (not to mention driving up the price of wheat meaning it's going to be more expensive to eat basics such as bread). So with the population of the 3rd world exploding, pretty soon if it hasn't happened already we won't have enough wheat to feed everyone. Now I'm not slamming ethanol as an alternate fuel, but this is one example of society not really thinking the issues out before they run off to try and solve the latest "popular" problems of the day. PS: I am a member of PETA (People Eating Tasty Animals). But watching videos of animals being slaughtered is not a pleasant sight. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
People have every right to protest against their government for taking the nation to war. But they should not be directing their dissatisfaction out on the individual soldiers. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

FAUX NEWS does it again.....McCain is a DEM

Maybe they are doing this on purpose, or maybe they are just plain stupid over at Faux News. Either way, it does not look like a professional way to be reporting so called "fair and balanced" news. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
When it comes to trying to make the entry gates, personally I feel 270s are a hell of a lot easier than 180s. But yes it is a bigger turn and it requires more concentration. 1) Don't forget to pay attention to your turn rate. Fast turns burn less altitude than slow carving turns. 2) When learning to do your 270s, please do them in controlled environments on hop n' pops and/or high pulls. Regular fun jump/work jump loads is no time to be learning 270s. 3) Have an out and do your best to recognize when you may be in the corner. The sooner you recognize the corner, the better your chances. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

About 6 years ago something similar happened to me while I was playing in an amateur game. I was in front of the net on offense and the other teams defenseman checked me from behind into the goalie and for whatever reason the goalie was also falling down and I took the goalie's skate right into my face. Fortunately I was wearing a mask (I hate to think what would have happened had I not been wearing a mask) and nothing came of it. The reason why I bring this up is that these incidents aren't as isolated as one would think they could be. In fact I am surprised it doesn't happen more often. In the NHL, they have doctors, dentists and ambulances on sight ready to care for the injured. In an amateur league the arena is staffed with the zambone driver and maybe the pro-shop dude who sharpens your skates. An ambulance (depending on the location of the rink) is 10-60 minutes away. Would Zednick be alive today if he was playing at some local rink. While I don't have one (I used to wear one when I played hockey as a youth), neck protectors could save your life. Food for thought to those of use who play hockey. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Also people automatically assume that transgendered people are all MTF when in reality there is an equal number of FTM transgendered people out there (does anyone remember Teana Brandon or was that Brandon Teana). I used to work with a FTM and it was not easy to tell that they were actually born female. The surgery for FTM is more drastic than MTF (both are irreversible), but it is easier to conceal FTM than MTF (especially when the transition occurs after puberty). In summary, if this grade 3 person is indeed transgendered and everyone involved believes this persons life would be better with the transition, it is better to deal with it before puberty. Finally (not directed at anyone specific here) do not judge this family and this young individual unless you've walked a mile in their shoes. The clock is ticking. Definitely not arguing here. Just posting to say I think it is silly to compare humans to other primates just as it is silly to compare people who are transgendered (people who identify themselves as a member of the opposite gender they were born into) versus people who are transvestites (people who take pleasure from wearing clothing of the opposite sex), just as it silly to assume that people who are transgendered or who are transvestites are automatically homosexual. These are four completely different and unrelated topics. Once again not arguing, just trying to make sure everyone who reads this and feels compelled to post to remember not to compare apples to oranges. Sorry my anti-religious comments on dealing with this issue are more generic and not directed at any specific person. I could have done a better job making that clearer from the earlier posts. PS: I am not an athiest. I'm agnostic. There is a difference. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

This is obviously a difficult situation for everyone involved. Difficult for the other children to understand why this young child feels the way they do, difficult for the school to try and accomodate everyone in a fair and safe way, difficult for the parents. But most of all this is difficult for a child who feels they are not what the rest of the world thinks they are. We can only hope that the child and parents get good (non-religious) counselling. But if this child is indeed transgendered, then it is best to deal with it before the child hits puberty. It will only get worse for him once puberty sets in. Too bad the world loves to judge people who are different from themselves. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over
-
If you were tolerant the way you say you are, then you would let the child, parents and the people counselling them worry about this problem instead of telling people on the internet that you think the parents need to be skinned alive. If this child is (after counselling) deemed to be transgendered isn't it best to deal with the issue before puberty sets in. Or should the flying spaghetti monster and his disciple "Hey-Zues" be called in to fix things? Because after all, we all know that a plagiarised man made religion can solve all the worlds problems. I am not working in the healthcare industry so I do not know where all the expeditures go. But it is more than just the salaries to the doctors and nurses. How about the "for profit" insurance companies, "for profit" pharmaceutical industry and "for profit" medical equipment companies. Now before people go off on me for questioning the "for profit" healthcare industries, just remember that the mess this greed for the almighty dollar as put the USA in. Greed is not always good in the long run and we as skydivers should know by now that there is more to life than the almighty dollar. He who dies with the most toys has happy relatives. But they are still dead. Okay enough of that socialist talk. Where's the phone number to my financial planner? LOL Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

I wish I had an easy answer to healthcare on both sides of the border. But I am afraid I am not that smart. Maybe I should have attended private schools instead of the public ones. Maybe I should have smoked less [you know what]. Maybe I should have been born to smarter or at least richer parents. Anyway I think some people are looking at this the wrong way: 1) One side of the street is calling for everyone to have universal government healthcare. 2) The other side of the street is saying "#### ###" I won't pay for someone else's care. These two sides will NEVER see eye to eye. But instead of the constant bickering, I have to ask ... is there any way to make healthcare more affordable? Or is everything in life "for profit". The current US Healthcare model wouldn't be so bad if more people could afford it. But it is too expensive for millions of people. I'm not that smart, but maybe a solution lies in looking beyond "healthcare is a for profit" business. The bureaucrats of the private insurance companies and the bureaucrats of government are not all that different. Neither one gives a rats ass about the people who need healthcare.
