question about McCain as Republican nominee
CanuckInUSA replied to SpeedRacer's topic in Speakers Corner
I saw something on one of the networks yesterday (I think it was CNN) where they mentioned who the various candidates were related to. As an example they said Obama was distant cousin of GWB, JFK, Brad Pitt (plus many more), McCain was a distant cousin of Laura Bush (plus many more) and Clinton was related to similar people and LOL Celin Dion. OMG (assuming what they said was true), American politics is controlled by a bunch of inbreeds. ROFLMAO Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
question about McCain as Republican nominee
CanuckInUSA replied to SpeedRacer's topic in Speakers Corner
ROFLMAO hey come on now, she is only human. She makes mistakes. A little artificial drama on the campaign can't hurt anyone can it? It's funny the media paints this as the most exciting presidential campaign ever. But from where I sit it is one of the most disasterous campaigns with "None of the above" being the only logical choice. Except, "None of the above" is not a choice. In a country of 300+ million people, couldn't you people find someone better than the 3+1 (don't forget Nader) clowns who are still in the running? Come on dragon unless people are pounding in, they stall their wings on every landing that they make. Applying more toggle/riser input will cause the wing to stall faster, but since we lack thrust, our canopies eventually lose their airspeed to a point where the wing no longer flies. Ideally we are at a managable ground speed inches off the deck when our wings stall. Instead of flaming the OP of this thread for trying a rear riser landing, we should help educate them (and others) to the various ways to control their wing. There is nothing wrong with rear riser landings, people just need to be aware that the wing will stall at a higher airspeed and (very important to mention) too much control input with the rears will cause the wing to prematurely stall at an even higher airspeed than it would if your control inputs on the rears was perfect. To the OP: any wing can stall at any air speed and at any attitude. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Think about what you are doing when you use your toggles while you land your canopy. Your toggles emulate extended flaps on an airplane and flaps change the cord of the wing and allow the wing to fly at a slower airspeed without stalling. Now think about what you are doing when you pull down your rear risers. The cord of the wing has not changed. It is like making a no flap landing with an airplane. Both methods work, but the wing will stall at a higher air speed when you land with no flaps, or in this case land on your rear risers. What you experienced is normal and to be expected. Hillary Clinton, Re: "Misspeaking" about Bosnia Visit
CanuckInUSA replied to masterblaster72's topic in Speakers Corner
Barring a major coupe from the Dem's super delegates, Clinton is done. Plus if there is a coupe by the super delegates it will speak poorly of where democracy is in the Democratic Party. It will be Obama vs McCain. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -

Ground Launching, Risers v. Brakes
CanuckInUSA replied to northcave's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
If possible it is better to get to your rears ASAP after you launch since flying in brakes is flying slow. But sometimes you can't get to your rears. But I would suggest you contact Kevin Love or Jim Slaton about your Ground Launching questions. I could attempt to explain how to do no wind launches here, but I could explain it wrong and/or someone could misinterpret what I say. It could all turn into one big flame fest and we know how those go. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Is this a scandal or insiders job to manipulate the public
CanuckInUSA replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in Speakers Corner
An annoymous phone call is sent to Lawrocket as he gets ready to go walk his dog for the evening. "Psss ... Mr Lawrocket, show up at the corner of 5th and Main at precisely 7:32 pm and look in the garbage can on the northwest corner. I promise it will be worth your while to deviate from your normal route where you walk your dog". Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Is this a scandal or insiders job to manipulate the public
CanuckInUSA replied to CanuckInUSA's topic in Speakers Corner
ROFLMAO at how the lefties in Canada can be manipulated by their media (at least IMHO). Check this story out. Turns out some Joe public citizen was out for a friendly walk in Ottawa with his spouse last night (who happens to be another male, not that there is anything wrong with this ... LOL) when they discovered so called sensitive Department of Defense blue print documents for a new "anti-terrorist" detention center under construction sitting out there in the open at the top of a public garbage can. Sounds pretty scandalous doesn't it. Heads should roll at the government and it's time to oust the current Conservative minority government? Well if you are a Leftie/Liberal in Canada and an advent believer in everything the CBC tells you, you today are now calling for heads to roll and calling for your trust worthy Liberals to be returned to government. But it turns out that Joe public citizen is "Anthony Salloum" and Mr Salloum is actually a member of the Rideau Institute (a left leaning political think tank organization) and parliamentary assistant to Alexa McDonough, M.P., New Democratic Party (the socialist political party in Canada). Coincidence? Well if you believe the CBC, this is a major scandal. It is their top story of the day and there is no shortage of their reporters willing to voice an opinion on the matter. But at the other major news network up here, Tibet is the major story of the day and it takes them 10 minutes in their TV news before they talk about this story. I smell a fish. What is Mr Salloum doing dumster diving? Does he not earn a nice paycheck working for the Rideau Institute as well as working as Ms McDonough's parliamentary assistant? Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Because they do not have money and/or secure long term jobs? It will be interesting to see what happens to the skydiving industry if this economic blip turns into something much more serious. No extra money in the whuffos pocket equals no once in a life time tandems adventures for them. No tandem adventures equals less business for the dropzones. Since the dropzones rely on tandems, they could be forced to scale back or close. No dropzone business is bad mojo for those who have cut away from society and decided to be full time skydivers (many of them do NOT have savings). Now look outside of the skydiving world to all the other niches in society. Not a pretty picture. As long as the DZs are open and I have spare money I will continue to jump when I can. But I am scaling back my spending to make sure there is at least one affordable roof that is over my head and food in my belly. It would be nice if I was independently wealthy, but while I am financially stable, I am not filthy rich where I can run around buying new investment real estate. Isn't Speakers Corners the place where the only thing we as a group can agree on, is that we disagree with each other? My mother was right, I would have been more successful competing in the Special Olympics than I am to be spending too much time here. All hail the almighty shamalamadingdong!!! Maybe I missed your point. I was too busy laughing at the pigeon dropping/egg shell references, or the big white tit references, or the Obama half breed references or just the general hate references to catch it all. If I didn't need to do some real world work right now, maybe I could spend another 10 minutes of my day at watch it again. But I have work to do. No I stand by my initial stance that this man is delusional because he's let his man-made religious beliefs let him become delusional. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Racism & Obama's Speech on March 18th, 2008
CanuckInUSA replied to PLFXpert's topic in Speakers Corner
Obama is a good public speaker with a refreshing message of change and hope for many people. But before people blindly follow him with his sermons of change, it would be nice to see exactly what his platform is. He still hasn't laid out the details. But he is not alone. Neither Clinton nor McCain can spell out exactly what a vote for either one of them will mean. They are all politicians. They say things the lemmings want to hear. They are all scum. They are worse than lawyers (sorry Lawrocket). But one thing is for sure. Obama, Clinton or McCain will be better than the current moron who holds the job. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
ROFLMAO ... too funny. If there is anything that this video should tell us, is that people "who follow man made religions" are mixed up and delusional. ROFLMAO ... Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Short answer: Yes Long answer: There is better gear to use for the job. Why use a skydiving canopy designed for skydiving when you can be using a Ground Launching canopy designed for Ground Launching? Why add the weight and bulk of using a skydiving container with it's reserve? Why use a pilot chute it will only add drag? Why use a slider? etc, etc, etc. Disclaimer: There is nothing wrong with you wanting to set a goal for yourself to try it one day (I have done some ground launching in CA and CO and it is very exhilarating). But please keep it as only a dream for now. You really need to be an advanced canopy pilot to be trying this stuff and even they the advanced pilots are messing up at times. Ground launching and/or speed flying is an order of magnitude less safe than skydiving. There has been a number of incidents within the last couple of days, weeks and even years where experienced ground launchers/speed fliers have died or been seriously injured. All it takes is one momentary loss of lift and/or misjudging the terrain, weather or the fliers ability to spoil your day or worse. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Should skydivers be made to wear helmets by law
CanuckInUSA replied to akarunway's topic in Speakers Corner
Some rules do require some skydivers to wear a helmet. Case in point: competitive swoopers must wear helmets (and shoes). Now if students should wear a helmet (I think they should), shouldn't AFF instructors also wear one? As a former ski patroller I can tell you guys I have seen first hand the result of a head injury. It doesn't that much of a blow to the head to cause permanent damage. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
Should skydivers be made to wear helmets by law
CanuckInUSA replied to akarunway's topic in Speakers Corner
I can't vote in your poll. I want to vote "No" but I can't vote "no - I don't want to wear a stinking helmet" because I pretty much always wear a helmet when I jump. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over -
I just hope that the people realize that they will be choosing from one hypocrite over another. Not that McCain is any better but I have to laugh at both Obama and Clinton in how they can tell one group of people that they will stand up to protect the working man/woman and do away with NAFTA yet turn around and tell another group of people, don't worry we are NOT serious about doing away with NAFTA. It's all political rhetoric. Obama may be a good public speaker telling the lemmings things that they want to hear. But you know he will not be able to deliver on half the crap he tells people and Clinton is just the same, except that a vote for Clinton is a vote to bring Bill back in control. Now McCain is not much better. McCain is nothing more than Bush light. Aie-ka-rumba The only thing worse than Canadian politics (you guys should see the winners ... NOT ... we have up here), no the only thing worse than Canadian politics is US politics. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

There is a type-o (my bad throw me to the Lions). Option #1 was supposed to read: "I could not exist without my union" but it doesn't look like I can edit the poll options Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

Don't you love how unions mess with everyone else whenever they feel they are entitled to a bigger slice of the pie and insist on going on strike. "American Axel and Manufacturer" can not produce their products since their unionized workforce is on strike and this is causing other businesses in the auto industry to lay off their unionized workforces since there are no axels available to build new cars with. Too frigging funny. Unions #ucking with the financial liveliness of other unionized workers and who's to blame? Certainly not the unions. ROFLMAO!!! Is there any wonder why North American society is on the fast track to 3rd world status. What is even funnier is that the unions staffing the auto manufacturer businesses are asking governments to bail out their failing businesses. The North American auto industry will not survive under it's current ways. If you want to survive in an ever changing world, you must adapt. Governments should not be in the business of funding failed businesses. Failed businesses are failed businesses. Even large industries like the auto industry should not be artificially maintained. So who feels they need unions to get them through life and who thinks unions are a joke. Try not to worry about the things you have no control over

What is the name of this freestyle trick
