Alex, Glad you are making such progress. I still remember that jump too. The light on the generater building kept getting bigger and bigger and bigger. . I'm sure the movie will be quite entertaining. You'll have to send me one when it's done. Keep up the hard work with the rehab. Bryan

This one isn't vintage, but I'm stuck here in iraq and bored so I'll write it. It was my very first building jump. My buddy and I were planning on jumping an A, but the winds happened to be perfect for a recently opened building. It had been 2 or 3 weeks since the winds had cooperated for this building. We drive to the site and park in a near by alley. Roll on into the building and take the elevater to the 19th floor. Then enter the stairwell that says "No roof access". we make our way up the stairs and into the generator room without detection. The engines are running so loud its hard to hear yourself, but I could still hear my heart pounding like crazy. we go through the generator room and into the next room. Out of nowhere a worker comes up from behind us. At this point I think "well looks like I'm going to jail tonight", but that didn't happen. My buddy starts making up some lame ass story about how we where looking for his little brother and we where playing hide-n-go-seek and it worked. Which is amazing to me because we both had are stash bags on. The worker was hispanic and I don't think understood what we where saying. He told us to leave and I just thought we would role out and go jump that A, but the worker walked away and left us in the room. we ran outside, ran up the ladder, and hid behind an air vent on the roof. At this point we where both freaking out. We waited about a half an hour and decided that we weren't busted and geared up. PC in hand walked to the corner of the building and stood there for what seemed like an eternity waiting for traffic to clear. Finally, no cars, no wind, just me my awesome buddy and the edge of the building. I jumped pitched opened on heading turned 90 right and landed in the middle of the road. I started packing up and I heard my buddy open up. He had a 90 left and was bringing it back around when he clipped a light pole with his left stabilizer. I watched him start swinging. I dropped my gear and started running towards him. As I got closer I noticed that the canopy was blowing freely. He had cut away and fell 15 feet to the ground cracking his heal bone. Then ran down the wrong alley and jumped 2 or 3 barb-wire fences with a broken foot. I ran back and grabbed my gear. We met up at the car and took off. His Flik with about 40 jumps forever gone. I was super bummed about his canopy, but he just was pleased I got my building. That is what its about. Shit happens, but he was still thrilled about the jump and that I finally got my building. I will never forget that night for the rest of my life. The ups and downs and spending time with a good friend, who rather than be upset about a lost canopy, was just happy for me getting my B. that is what BASE is all about. The experiences and the friendships you build with each other. Bryan BASE 943

I was taught start with risers and then move to toggles. I personally always go for toggles. For a few reasons. 1. If you go to risers you will sink out fast. If over a taulus you might sink right into it. 2. The turn is faster with toggle imput and you can turn a 180 with very little altitude loss. 3. Overall I feel that there is more control with toggles of risers. As for coming from the inside out to grab toggles and riser, I can never see myself doing that. It seems more challenging , unnatural, and very uncomfertable. Hope it helps. Bryan

what do you think of the 2kcomposites FF2
Bryguy1224 replied to Bryguy1224's topic in Photography and Video
I am going to purchase my first video helmet and i want a side mount. What does everyone think of this helmet? Any suggestions to other helmets on the market? Thanks Ody -
If you grind up a couple viagra and mix it in with your pack job your canopy will have no problem standing you up erect.

No I'm still stuck in this shit hole of a country. I'll be home around Thanksgiving time. Probobly not soon enough for the turkey boogie. The family might get a little pissed if I get home and leave the next day to go BASE jump in Utah.

Dmcoco84, If I read your post correctly, you stated that BR told you that its not necessary to have a vented 36" PC because your far enough from the wall if you have an offheading. That makes no sense to me. I personally never want an offheading on any jump. What if I decide to do 3 backflips before I start to track and don't open as far away from a terminal wall. I'm still at terminal and I still don't want an off-heading. I am a fan of the vented pc's and from what I have been told by Marty, the pull force is the same vented or not. So why not go vented all the time.

PC size and canopy distortion during flight...
Bryguy1224 replied to lifewithoutanet's topic in Archive
The canopy never had a chance to start flying from 111 feet. No way!! -
I have to agree with tom on this one also. I currently have a Flik and I have found it a bit challenging to try and get a nice sink without feeling it start to stall on me. I have the 5 line mod. I have jumped a blackjack and was very impressed. I only have a couple jumps with one, but it the short time I flew it, I found it to be a better all around canopy than my flik. that's why I ordered one. Ody

I have always been told that closing pins where designed to come out with the same pull force and the same way no matter what direction they where facing. With the exception of so much tension that it can't be pulled. That's why they where designed the "U" shape. Obviously a straight pin would pull out differently if it was up or down. With the curved pin it shouldn't matter. Ody

I recently purchased a Sony PC9 and was wondering what is a good side mount helmet that isn't too expensive? Also what type of wide angle lenses are used? I can't remember if its .5 .3 ect. Just what ones are the the standard to have. Thanks Bryan

I havn't seen any E's here in Iraq, but i have seen some great A's that I'm sure have yet to be opened up. Unfortunatly my rig didn't make the packing list for the trip over here. Oh well. Bryan Ody

Its the sequal to Thread the Needle. It was made by a good friend of mine. I havn't seen the second one yet but its in the mail to me. I'm guessing I'll have it in about 2 to 3 weeks becuase I'm in Iraq. I have the first one and enjoyed it. I shot some of the footage in the first one. From what I hear its even better than the first. I would get it. Just another kisk ass movie to add to your collection. Ody BASE 943

I saw the coolest jump in person, not too long ago. A newer colorado jumper did a double gainer from my local 300' Antenna. It was the most amazing thing I have ever seen. Has anyone else ever seen something so amazing as that? It was just so awesome I had to talk about it.
