Almost right on 30 mins. I spent the whole video saying to myself "WTF was I doing with my body position that whole weekend?? ". Seriously, lots of cool shots, he did a good job. What I'd like to know is how Junior and Ian from Tecumseh managed to make the video when they weren't there..... (I told ya where the boogie footage started Chris! ) hahahah oops... The video is 29:29 to be exact, plus the 5 min menu and the quickly put together drunken movie trivia, in which I was drunk when I made it, so please excuse the typos and words running off the screen (meow)

Destroy in 2 days no. Make the rest of the year VERY difficult to pay the bills and keep our heads above water is he takes all the interest away from us, yes. We have info meetings the first week of the fall semester. We do a lot of our recruiting at this time, fill our classes and tandem schedule. If he were to come the same week or before us, it would damage us for the entire year yes. -

Thank you, I'm glad someone else kinda sees it from our stand point. We're such a small dropzone that, well we're not even a dropzone, we're a club, we charge slots, we don't make money. We do maybe 50 tandems a year and train 200 studetns. If he takes all our students in one sweep then we can't stay open to operate. Yeah we'll get a couple of people who stick with it, but come on, we all know the keep rate. 2% at best. So if he takes 20 tandems, or let's say 50, our whole years worth, then we just lost a lot of our operating cost and got what, 1 person out of it? I don't care if he advertises in town, post flyers etc, but i think it's rude to come onto campus and try to mess everything up for us. We still have our bills to pay, we get VERY little from the university per year,, we depend on students to keep the DZ open, keep us from having to raise prices. -Our jumps are $16 to 10k, they've been that way through all the gas wars -We charge $25 for gear rental PER SEMESTER!!! Yes make as many jumps as you want in one semester and it's $25 -After the first jump course, we train the studetns at cost. They pay 2 slots and a packer if they need one, once they're off student status, we jump with them for free to help them get their license. -We have 7 rigs, the oldest being that of 5 years old and 7 brand new Navigators with less than 10 jumps on them So having some guy come in and screw us over IS a HUGE DEAL to us staying in business if we want to operate how we do. We don't make money, never have, never will, period. So yes, I am going to be offended by this guy coming onto campus and trying to do this. We still haven't heard if it's even real or not, our advisor is looking into who gave permission, but granted, it's going to hurt us more than it will help us, especially in the fall semester! -

Dude!!! You freaking ROCK!!!! I didn't know you were planning on coming out. I'm going to lock myself in my room and stay away from everyone to make sure I don't get my ass sick and can't jump. I plan on jumping my ass off to make up for the Ohio boogie! I'll be sure to bring the DVD and we can watch it in the party bus. We need to establish where we're all setting up camp. The bus will run off of alternate power for about 8 hours but then it needs to charge, or if we can find a spot t hat has an electrical hookup, within the campgrounds, that'd be the best. If not, we'll just have to move it during the day to plug in and charge. Sunny, do you know if any of the camping spots have electricity? Doesn't even have to be an RV hookup, just a standard plugin -

Sounds like a good plan, it'd be very profitable, but the key word in your post was, "a college campus without a dz withing 100miles." We have our dz withing 10 miles of campus, that's what doesn't make sense to me. There are many other places to go, even in Kansas for that matter. -

Yes we are open to the public at the same rates as college students -

No he's not doing anything wrong and everyone advertises, but why not incorporate with the college club? And it'd only be for one weekend -

I guess I wouldn't have any problem with a traveling dz, though my concern is that he's actually coming onto our campus, where we do all our advertising, where we recruit all our jumpers and to be staff members, instructors, etc. If it were at an area or campus that didn't have a dropzone, I could understand that, though it'd be like Walmart letting K-mart have a sale in their parking lot if you see what I'm saying. -

We were contacted today by a gentlemen informing us that he was going to be coming to our area, giving a speach on our campus about skydiving (Kansas State University) and then operating tandems for one weekend out fo the local airport. He says he has permission from the local chamber of commerece and from the airport manager to operate such activities. Information was not giving, but we're assuming he'd be a traveling dropzone with his own plane, rigs and instructors. He was calling to inform of us the activities and that he didn't want to step on anyones toes, though that he had permission to do so. Has anyone else been contacted or informed of these types of activities in your dz territory? We are a small college club, and a non comercial dropzone. Have any other college clubs experienced this is the past? It seems a bit too skyride like to me, setting up a dropzone for one weekend only then moving on to the next. He could have them scheduled already, or set up a site to schedule them. I'm not sure what the deal is to be honest, any help and insights would be greatly appreciated. To answer everyone's questions: Yes I weight 300 or just under out the door with all my camera stuff and suits on. Take about 10-15lbs off that if i'm not flying with everything on my head. That picture on my profile is actually old, and I'm a bit bigger. Thanks for asking though and making sure I'm not just pissing in the wind with these questions. Inirtia actually makes a lot of sense. Never really thought of it that way. And as for jumping a 120, I am not ready for it. I upsized back to the 149 from the 135 because of the extremely high wingloading. Granted the stiletto wasn't the best canopy to be loading that high, but I had to land off and straight in and hurt my knee on the landing. Nothing damaging, just realized it was a bad idea. A vx 150 i think i would be comfortable flying, even a vx 135 for that matter. I flew the stiletto much better in my opinion that my xfire. Although the response above about having to run out my xfire, that is incorrect. I haven't run out a landing in a couple hundred jumps. I slide on my feet, transferring the weight out of my harness. I get great swoops out of my canopy, but would like something maybe a bit different. Length of risers are, I believe 22", they are what came on my wings, much longer than normal ones on javs etc. I open my chest strap all the way up and stow my slider behind my head. I start a 270 around 650 ft (field elevation is 900ft asl), 180's 400, 90's by eye then to double fronts. Depending on wind conditions (usually shitty and high 15mph) toggle, light wind days or no wind rear risers all the way. My brakes are actually a bit longer than the factory setting, but I've adjusted them that way on purpose. A much more natural feeling to be at full flight with my arms slightly relaxed. I can still whip it quickly though into a turn and get plenty of flare power out of it. it also alows me to hang on front risers harder and longer without effecting the trailing edge. I'm going to try and see if i can find a cross-braced of something in a more reasonable size. my understanding was they were 120 max on the sizing because of openings etc.

Be at SD Chicago with all my friends

In your opinion honestly I'm loading my canopy too much? What would your suggestion be? I used to jump a 170 but it's just a huge wing, I can't get into cross braced yet as I'm not ready to jump a 120. The smallest I've jumped was a stiletto 135 at 2.15 or so. I liked the speed and swoops, but not the openings etc. My understanding was that the xfire2 was capable of the higher wingloading, with a min loading of 1.4. I can't look at my label as it's packed, but I believed the max exit weight on it would wing it at 2.2 What would the best ave be to go?

Oh and the teaser is just that, though I've never been good at teaser videos, cause I hate giving away the good stuff. So my appologies to those who didn't like the teaser and voted it poorly The video is much better

Stowed toggles...all the way.

My bad, I got number 3 and 5 confused. Land in half brakes, vs perform rear riser turns and flares. -
Stowed toggles...all the way.
kansasskydiver replied to Zoter's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I think it's important to know how to do and feel comfortable doing. The USPA A license requirments states that you should be able to land your parachute with your rear risers. From experience I've had to do so before. Comp Cobalt 150, one brake wouldn't come unstowed. Made the lines even again and then flew and landed it in rears. Is it there, is it square, is it stearable. Depending on yoru comfort level and the problem, a broken stearing line wouldn't always mean a reserve ride. There are other ways to deal with it. If its there, and it's square, see if you can stear it safely another way, but always above your harddeck. -
Ok I'll post my question, maybe I'm just crazy, but it's happening more regularly now on my canopy... I call it the seek and destroy mode. Xfire2 149 loaded at 2.0/1 or slightly lower. 800+ jumps but by no means an excellent swooper. Long carves ranging from 270+ in degrees. Never a snap hook etc. Most of my landings used to be leveled out high, canopy would lose all it's speed and then, what i consider a stall, and slam me down on the ground. I've learned what this feels like and when i level out high (better than low right) I go to double fronts to build back up some speed and just land as usual. Lately though I've dialed in the approach, harness shifts, lining it up with my target and not as many aborted runs, I can feel the canopy max out on a steep 270 or 360, double front to hold it on it's line, then it seems to just lock and fly where ever it wants to fly until it slows down a bit. I understand the principal of target fixation and thinking you're turning when you're not, but I swear my canopy locked for a second and wouldn't turn until it slowed down. By turning I mean, in my flare, harness inputs, slight toggle inputs. So no one believed me when it happen, then a week later it does it to me again and there were witnesses to see it. I'm banked left, left toggle down, canopy flying straight and level regardless of the input I'm giving it until it loses it's power coming out of the corner or whatever you want to call it... My problem, I'm the most experienced canopy flyer at the dz, small college club, don't have people to read off of, and it's just stumped me. I figured out the "stalling" out and upward problem was from throwing my body slightly infront of me coming out of my carves, thus changing the center of gravity and the canopy creating lift and then catching up to me, but this seek and destroy effect I can't figure out. So call me crazy, my canopy is in trim, nothing wrong with it, and it only happens when i'm hauling balls. Can someone explain this phenominon (i can't spell), and I'm open to critisizm, but please believe me when I'm saying that it just doesn't respond for X ammount of time until it slows, in my head it's seconds, in reality it's probably half a second or less, but it's a lot of ground on a no wind or downwind day in KS

SGC Memorial Day Boogie DVD - UPDATE
kansasskydiver replied to kansasskydiver's topic in The Bonfire
I'll be shipping them all first class 1-2 days within the midwest then max 2-3 for everywhere else. I've been working on it all day, I'm happy to say I'm almost done. I need to get me some lunch and get out of my chair. There were over 150 shots and a total of about 5 hours of tape. I'm picking out all the good parts of the dives, keeping it nice and fast paced, with a bit of humor in between. It's going to be a nice production. All the inserts and DVD's are going to be printed with a photo printer, and I don't use label, I print directly onto the DVD's. Thus far it's 20mins and I still have some stuff to add. My guess is it's going to be around 30-35 in the end. The play list right now is: Led Zeplin Greenday Sound Garden Black Eyed Peas And then the background stuff for the humor I'm looking at Friday as being the absolute latest I'll ship, and that's with running into a problem or something. -
