Skydive Greene County Memorial Boogie!
kansasskydiver replied to PhreeZone's topic in Events & Places to Jump
I've got a couple of ideas to make it fun and interesting, but I'll need everyone's help for some of them. Thinking along the lines of some drunken boogie trivia haha. I like the film festival idea, I'll greatly take anyone's footage after the fact and add it to the video. Now do we want widescreen or full screen? I'm a fan of widescreen myself, but I'll just make my own version of it -

Hey that's why I posted and asked if anyone else had planned on doing it before me... I'm sorry if you really want it you can take it -
Thank you

Like you buy a car you don't mind wrecking? How about learning not to dump it? Nothing personal, I like you. But I think your judgement was more suspect than the 700. Yep, an MSF course. Did you have one before wrecking the bikes you listed? Exactly. What are you gonna do on a 250cc scooter? Evade? I think not. Again, I am just trying to keep him safe and advise him of my mistakes. I was stupid and frankly, listened to everyone else tell me I would be ok on a crotchrocket as my first bike. No one told me different. That was now 5 years ago. I was 18, dumb, young and reckless. I've ridden twice since

Very accurate

Yeah I see what he's doing, but it's still freaking amazing

Wow I'm really amazed at how many people are encouraging him to get a big bike as a first bike... If you're NEVER riden before, get a small bike you you don't mind dumping once or twice. Ride it around your yard or block, take the motorcycle safety course, get some time under your belt, riding a motocycle is a lot more dangerous than you think. Why do I stick to this? Cause I was an idiot and my first bike was a 700cc and it didn't last me all summer before I totalled it and spent 5 hours in the ER getting road-rash cleaned off my left side. Another close friend, same thing, never riden before, bought a 600, lasted for maybe less than a month before she skid in on a highway then rolled through the gravel shoulder. Another friend, 700 or so, dumped it within a month or two, even after taking the safety course... You need prior experience, dirtbikes, something. Stability, reaction times etc. Yeah you might be able to ride it and shift and what not, but what're you gonna do when you hit some sand or someone pulls out infront of you, or merges lanes and doesn't see you? Then it's totally different. I think telling some to buy a large bike as their first bike is like telling a student to go ahead and jump on a stiletto. Yeah you can argue they might be fine, but then they get cut off on final and turn low. Dude I'd stick to a dirt bike or something small for now, learn how to ride it, dump it, put yourself in some situtations where you're uncomfortable and have to recover, THEN go to something bigger just my .02cents worth and I have the scares to prove it's a bad idea

wingnut's tech support story of the day....
kansasskydiver replied to wingnut's topic in The Bonfire
Dude I feel your pain. I worked fro SBC Yahoo! DSL for over 2 years. I started back when it was ok to work for them, then they merged with accenture and all hell broke out. Not only was I customer self install as I was trained for, but then one day I was also internet services, shipping, returns, billing, a supervisor and more. My favorite story though that I have is the little old lady and her NIC card. She couldn't figure out how she was gonna get the darn thing in her tower, the card was too big. She had taken apart her surge protector refering to it as her "tower" where everhting plugs into -
Skydive Greene County Memorial Boogie!
kansasskydiver replied to PhreeZone's topic in Events & Places to Jump
More than happy to do it as long as no one else was planning on doing it before I chimed in. I don't want to take it from someone else. What I'd do is each night have people gather around my campsite and firewire what's they got from that day, or if they didn't mind, at the end of the boogie leave me their tape and I'd mail it back to them ASAP -

Skydive Greene County Memorial Boogie!
kansasskydiver replied to PhreeZone's topic in Events & Places to Jump
So it was talked about above but I don't know if anyone seriously offerred or is thinking about doing it or not, but I'd be willing to put together the boogie DVD if there is interest. I'm jobless and schoolless right now so it'd give me something to do and wouldn't be a time burdon on me. I made our club's end of year 2-disk DVD as well as 2 films for the Fly Boyz Film Festival last Nov. I don't want to take it from anyone though if they were gonna do it already. If not, I'll be happy to do it. Check out my lastest work on skydivingmovies.com http://www.skydivingmovies.com/ver2/pafiledb.php?action=file&id=2006 And the attached picture of the 2 disk DVD set Edit to add: As a bonus, I'll put an easter egg on the DVD of the voice messages the crazy chick left on the phone -
Sounds like fun. I might be interested

My server was attacked by 2 groups it looks like. They dumped about a gig of crap onto my harddrive and played tag. There are directories upon directories of crap that just says, tag - uid then their team number. I don't know what the information they left behind is though. Must have been using my machine as a storage device for more of their games. I'm stumped though, thought I was well protected, but obviously not enough. Now I'm going through all my html files and what not to see what else they left behind, if anything So protect yourselves people if you're running a server... At least no harm that I can tell

Envious of you vidiots who can fly on your back
kansasskydiver replied to StevePhelps's topic in Photography and Video
I've spent about 20 mins + in both tunnels backflyiong and a modified sitfly. I weigh in at 260+/- without gear. What I've found for backflying in and out of the tunnel is legs open, 90 at the knees and hips then your arms striaght above you or just a little to the sides and PUSH DOWN is the mor important thing. Also look straight up, not at your feet or knees, that'll cause your back to de-arch and you'll just fall like a rock. It's almost like a sit, though instead of your arms behind you, they're above you. Keep the 90's and look up. It's amazing what you can do on yoru back, especially while FF'ing. If someone corks out, you just pop and go. Even with faster fallers on their belly I can fly on my back with them, great for full deployment shots. It takes awhile to get used to, but works well. The transition from belly to back and back I did in the tunnel as a half barrel roll, pop up just a little before going onto my back kept me in place on my mark, going back to belly was much easier. Edit; to add my horrible drawing skills demonstrating what I learned in the tunnels etc -

So my roommate and I froze our ASSES off cause of the cost of gas. All we were running was the water heater and MAYBE the heater for an hour a day to unfront the toilet and we were getting hundred dollar bills. So instead we just ran space heaters in the bathroom (cause the toilet froze) and our rooms. Then we were getting $200 electric bills... Well Just got the mail and there's a refund from the gas company for 3 months for $250!!! So in other words, they over charged us $80 a month and our actual bills were on average $40 or so... We could have actually been warm for what we were paying, but instead we froze our asses off. The other thing that pisses me off is, I went back through on the bill to see if it had the little E indicating it was an estimate, and it doesn't have that anywhere So they're getting a nasty phone call from both of us today cause, last winter, wasn't all that comfortable for us!
