Man, I finally have a couple days to jump while I am in Houston and the weather just sucked. Monday (12/1/02) I drive to SkyDiveHouston and of course theres no one jumping. Of course its early and its Monday and there are a few clouds but... I waited around, went into town and had lunch and then waited some more to no avail. I would like to say that the people at the DZ were very nice and all however. We swapped bumper stickers, I bought a shirt and was gone. The next day of course was much worse. This is the first time in my limited jump career that the weather was against me. California just does NOT have weather like that... ------- D.T. Holder SIMstudy

LOL That is my plan exactly. I will be in Houston next week and plan to jump, if at all possible. It should be first on my license, new DZ, new plane. I'm sure they will just love a "new guy" who shows up with beer. hahahaha ------- D.T. Holder SIMstudy

Well what can I say. I owe beer and most likely lots of it. In my defense I must say that I have drank no beer at the DZ up to this point. Rule 8 I believe. I owe for : *First time in the peas + *First jump on your own pack job (same jump) *First kiss pass *First jump from an aircraft not normally used at home drop zone And most importantly (as I just sent off my A license card) *Any license, award, rating, or badge By my count thats 4 cases. There is very much a STOMP feel to the show. Its strange, funny, and bizaar. I do believe they are the fist mimes I have not wanted to kill bare handed. Even the commercials are great. One the way to Vegas my wife and I heard a commercial in which they use phrases like "Ultra Bass Thunder Monks". When you leave the show you understand that the commercial was right. ------- D.T. Before I post this I would like to say that I only have 21 jumps and that I am still very excited by this event. Yesterday I read this very thread in the morning. About lunch time I magically found myself at the dz (hey its Friday...) and my second jump was not only had my closest landing to the target (large orange X in the peas) but I landed with my left foot in the middle of the X. I would like to thank those who have added comment to the thread and to Lauri for posting the link to Survival Skills for Canapy Control. I felt much better about how to gauge my landing target and give credit to everyone here. DTOXX

Wow I feel pretty good about myself all the sudden. 1. my wife 2. a small deer. (duh I'm in the woods???) 3. watch it in awe 4. 3 bedroom, 2000 sq ft, high pitched roof line with dormers 5. no 6. long oval table with candle/fruit arrangement centerpiece 7. thick tin (like one makes in metal shop) 8. pick up, clean, put away safe 9. large lake (envisioned Lake Tahoe) 10. small sail boat like a 12' Lazer ------- D.T. OK, I don't know exactly were to post this question so I just threw it in here. Dove can spank me if I am wrong. According to the USPA 2003 SIM glossary Night Jumps are defined as: "NIGHT JUMP: A skydive made from one hour after official sunset to one hour before official sunrise. The FAA considers any jump made after sunset and before sunrise a night jump." So, for those of you who jump at Skydive Houston can you tell me which is observed there??? As luck will have it I will be in a training course for about a month at the interchange of the I-10 & the Beltway (Sam Houston beltway is it?) at the Radisson West. This means I am about 25 minutes away from Skydive Houston, I my directions are correct. I know I will be "stuck in class" till 4:30 to 5:00 and hope to make it for the sunset jump a couple times. I am 1 or 2 jumps short of my "A" license, which I will have next weekend, so an actual night jump is out of the question. Anyone have an idea if I will be able to make it? DTOXX
