I saw an interview with a guy buying a lottery ticket when the number was getting huge and the reporter asked "What do you think the odds are of you winning this lottery, you know they're astronomical, right?" He says back, "Yeah, but it's still better odds than me making that by hanging sheet rock."

I think you're trying to claim that there's a counterpoint from someone, presumably here, who thinks we should follow some sort of economic structure that is the opposite of capitalism. Or you're barking up the wrong tree.

From the article you posted: "China is reeling from Trump’s trade sanctions. Xi is focused now on his need to maintain economic growth at home. And the U.S. and EU have largely abandoned a Green Climate Fund that would have redistributed US$100-billion a year from developed countries to developing countries. That was the lucre that made climate change interesting to China and other Third World countries. So China no longer has an economic incentive to participate in what it saw as the Paris climate-change charade." So there you have it, your article explaining that with the lost diplomacy and trade sanctions imposed by Trump China is being squeezed to do more with less. The blind response is that yes, they'll increase but that's just because we abandoned the partnership with them by our own withdrawal from the Paris Accord and the our own trade war with them. It's therefore a moot point because it's happening either way.

Tax the rich, feed the poor, 'til there are no rich no more

The phrase should be clarified to a "flat percentage tax" and the further description is to exempt for low income and senior citizens, etc etc etc. -
Their need for energy is up according to the article you posted: "Over the past year, China’s demand for energy is up substantially, as high as 15 per cent in the case of natural gas. "

Yes, their short term ROI is better. That's why US fossil fuel industries hid what they knew about their effects on global warming.
-
Of course. An investment means there's money up front that you regain in the long term. When you have no choice in the short term you stop fleecing the sheep and send them to slaughter. The diplomacy we had with them is gone and they're struggling so they have no choice but to make power the cheapest way that is most readily available for their power producing infrastructure. We're moving in the wrong direction and US isolationism is at the root of this. 4 years ago we were the world's diplomatic powerhouse, that's now slipping out of our fingers and it doesn't even look like we'll settle the intellectual property issues that seems to be the only valid justification for the losses we've incurred.

There are definitely good articles but my personal issue is that there's a lot to wade through. I could extend it to the square formed by VOX and reason.com but Mother Jones, Daily Beast, CNN are entertainment garbage. I did have a WaPo subscription but I got sick of every article being about Trump so now I only bounce between BBC, Reuters, Politico, NPR and Wallstreet Journal.
-
I would say only the green square is worth your time.
-
Yup. That's what happens when the second largest producer of greenhouse gases walks away from global agreements and starts trade wars with the largest producer of greenhouse gases.
-
Many of us civilians also went "huh"? You're simultaneously claiming that the upper echelon guys need to stay out of it while also ignoring that they guys directly involved want Trump to stay out of it. This sailor is going to get his Trident back with a big asterisk on it because his shipmates don't want him to have it.

NPR, BBC, Reuters, Wall Street Journal. Televised news has zero informative value unless they're simply stating what happened. CNN, Fox, MSNBC, etc are entirely entertainment and opinion.

I'll comment. I didn't see it was you who posted this and assumed anyone who starts something with "This came up on FB today" and then continues with content like this is making a joke. Then I saw it was you and realized you're not making a joke and you actually believe this.

There IS a problem with global warming... it stopped in 1998

2019 Continues as the second hottest year on record with combined sea and surface temperatures and continues to get closer to 2016 for the hottest. https://www.ncdc.noaa.gov/sotc/global/201910/supplemental/page-1 -
I occasionally run into people who say that soldiers in these situations are doing what needs to be done. No. Those are war crimes.

Looks like someone already picked up on this above. What do you think, Ron?

It's incredible that this ISN'T a satire piece. "Flick? Flick who?" Buddy...you put him up to this...

So, let's say that it was legal to sell a drug in some states but not others, legal to use it in some method in some states but not others and illegal to abuse it in all. Do you you think there would be an effective way for one state to do anything about breaking the laws regarding abuse of that substance? You can't do much about point of use on a state level if you're not doing anything about point of sale on a national level.

I mistakenly waded into the comments section on that. Wow, what a shit show. It's like a a page out of It Can't Happen Here.

Tax the rich, feed the poor, 'til there are no rich no more
DJL replied to airdvr's topic in Speakers Corner
That pretty accurately touches on the issue at hand. Raise taxes on the rich and they'll just move the whack-a-mole to a new hole. If the loss can't be recouped in tax laws then they'll just squeeze it out of the lower tiers of US citizens. Remember, they're still looking for gross earnings to come out of their managed wealth and those in charge of making the upper tier wealth simply add another dollar to movie theater popcorn or another $100 to a bottle of pills. -
You have to use just the slightest bit of skepticism in life.

I'm not sure why they're including Yovanovitch's testimony, she has zero to do with any impeachable issues. This is filler.

Can you link this? I'd like to see that for a conversation I'm having regarding how relevant it is that he was on it.
