The production group probably just got it in their head that they were going to do it in Romania and didn't look back. There are plenty of big name American Era movies that took advantage of US land AND US towns. For example, Sommersby. Several parts were filmed in Lexington, VA. A quaint town, but having spent several college years there, I know that they had to do a lot of work to hide, for starters, the paved roads and traffic lights, non of this (I think) was done digitally. I know for fact that they laid soil over the roads. Here's another (although I really don't care). Last of the Mohicans was supposed to be near Lake Champlain but was mostly done in the Carolinas. The fact is that a company has more to gain by increasing a few people's salary by 200,000 than increasing many salaries by 1,000. The difference just doesn't matter to the lower income up and commer especially if he knows that the upper level is so lucrative at another company. And what we should do. Then petition. Better luck with the politicians. Don't watch the shitty movie at the theater, pay attention to reviews. Don't go to the game, don't buy expensive shoes. Read it online. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Oh geez, that's the worst. The obligatory skydive and family update questions all in one. I'll try to subdue my dry and salty personality this time around. Yeah, I'd go and use their rental stuff. If I'm really hurting on Friday I'll give them a call and see what they're putting up. Wait, no log book or license. Hey, I know. I'll show up as an AFF1 and really mess with them. In Canton, Mi at my sister and brother in law's place with my parents and extended family. My only reprieve is my 1 year old nephew who entertains me by throwing food onto the kitchen floor. Rig and gear wouldn't fit in the car for the drive up or else I'd run over to Tecumseh for an escape. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

This might just be a a result of my rig being just a little too small for me but when I wear lots of clothing in the winter, the opening shock is transfered to my balls, rather than on my legs. I imagine it would work better if the material weren't all bunched up. Edit: I think someone else said a bit about tying to the straps together for guys. As you see in your picture, the straps are held together more at the bottom, so that means the tops of the straps cram right into your sack. Better for guys to connect them with bungie stitched to the top part of the strap. Edit#2 (couldn't let this one go by untouched): This is true, you have a gash, quit whinning and cook dinner. A thought for Newbies Giving Advice
DJL replied to ChasingBlueSky's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
This is what I do. I'm a new jumper and if I think I know the answer to something then I'll phrase it, "Hey, I only have 180 jumps but from what I understand, the answer is X." One of the best ways to learn is to be vocal. That way, your stupid assumptions can get shot down and you learn along with the person asking the question. The wrong thing to do is to send PM's with your lofty knowledge or to try to instruct students at your DZ when you don't know shit for yourself. Do you know the worst part. I'm sitting here browsing, I see, threads about Al Qaida attacks, about problems in Iraq, etc. Then I see this thread and I say out loud, "Ah, FUCK!" I'm sorry, I love me some cow meat and cow juice. I hope it's cleared before barbecue season. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

Reminds me of a story Doug Strand told me about his old Express or maybe Prodigy. I don't know much about those, maybe one of you old farts can figure out what it was. Anyway, he thought he was getting a good Hybrid canopy but after a few too many jumps getting slammed he went to the manufacturer to ask about it and they said they'd cut his and a few others for a CRW team to be dedicated CRW canopies. Guys, very important note here from Hook. This is why you should forge jump number 25,000. I think this is my favorite thread of all time. "I encourage all awesome dangerous behavior." - Jeffro Fincher

what's the lowest you've ever exited?
DJL replied to panzwami's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
2k hop & pop. Cessna load on a clouded day. That's the most we could get. I was jumping my Lightning 160 (CRW canopy). Others on the load had regular canopies packed to open at terminal, one didn't jump because she had a snivelly canopy. I don't blame her, the other people's openings looked spooky. Who would choose skydiving as a career?
DJL replied to SpeedDog's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Well, I'm not going to be you or your buddy's career counselor but, like I said, it doesn't hurt to have a strong major, not just for the money but for the proof and exercise of your abilities. On your promotions and billets you'll still be competing with the Engineering and Technical majors. When I was at VMI I was thinking about changing to an easier major from Mechanical Engineering because I was intending to go into the Navy for life, because I was already picking up starts on the lacrosse team as a freshman, and because the English and History departments were both suggesting that I switch. It seemed like the rational thing to do so that I could focus on the things that I liked. I'm glad I didn't change. I ended up changing my decision to go into the Navy and with lacrosse I had achieved just about everything that someone could and neither club ball or coaching has given me the satisfaction of lining up on a Saturday afternoon. I've only met people who regretted not doing as much or as well in school. Never someone who wished that they did less. Edit: Ya know, I'm going to add to this. There seems to be the myth that being a good officer is independent of one's previous education. At VMI I had countless classmates who would stay up late shinning their shit because that's what Cadre told them to do. Into the military, there seemed to be that perception that it's OK to have a slack major, because once you're in then you can be an Admiral. The truth is that those who succeed in the military and in the civilian world are ones who set high mental standards for themselves. College isn't about just passing until you get commissioned. Who would choose skydiving as a career?
DJL replied to SpeedDog's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
***no he didnt laugh at all...he told my friend to think about it over the weekend and see if he still wanted to change....ofcourse he did so eventually he let him change majors, funny stuff though!*** So, basically he's not going to give himself an out? I wonder because I assume you guys are about 19 or 20 and he's doing something that will limit what he will be able to do in his future. If he finds a female and decides to have a family instead of being a skydive instructor then he's going to look back and say, "Geez, I wish I had put myself in a better position to support my family." It definitely doesn't hurt to get a higher level of education. If anything, he's showing your command that he doesn't have the ability to weigh all options.
