Question is, who will build the weapons if no companys will build them, the government? Virtually all companies that build weapons also build civillian products. If boeing, nassco, MD, Intel, Dell, Microsoft, Lockheed, General Motors, Cummins, CAT, Cisco, Colt, Mossberg, Smith and Wesson, U. S Steel, chevrolet, Peterbilt, ect. ect. all stop making a profit, the U. S. economy would be much worse a depression than the Great Depression. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

actually, this reality has been in effect for a couple hundreds years. It's just faster now with the internet. IN fact, concerning the Hemp argument in another thread, it was the supra-national competition that helped with the doom of hemp vs. competition that helped it's illegality much easier. War is buisness. An economic sanction will make a country weak. An economic attack is extremely destructive. After all, Love may make a community, but money creates the "electromagnetism" that makes a community work. You create havoc there, you part the community, weaken it's ability to come together to produce. No creature comforts, no weapons for defense, no food. It's a tactic we have used since the begining of our country. England tried to use it on us with their blockades during the Revolutionary War. Buisness is war. War is buisness. We will never transcend to using takeovers instead of troops. Buisness and economic attacks are as old as time. It's not a 20th century idea, its a pre B. C. concept. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

Correct. It's actually one part of several things that happens, but in the end, there's a very high risk of putting a considerable amount of radioactive matter into the air thus poisioning allies and enemies alike (depending on the winds). That report smells like a mission scripted by a single person rather than something normally thought up by several people with multitude of specialties and experiences. I can only read one train of thought when the description of the mission is described. My Bullshit-dar is on. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

I've seen what an mk 48 ADCAP can do. It will not put a hole in the ship, it would split it in two. give me time to find a video. It may not be public yet. Okay, this is the best I can come up with. keep in mind that this is a warship made of much tougher steel and designed to take hits from enemy ships. . . http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vaImLvZbPw _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

What I got from what others are talking about: . . ."Comment: It's a two(ish)-hour movie that tries to show that 1. Christianity is a lie (that's the first 30 min.), 2. The 9/11 attacks are a conspiracy, 3. WWI, WWII, Vietnam are also cosnpiries, 4. The banking industry subversively rules the U.S. and has had a hand in all the aformentioned conspiracies, plus some others. Horrible reporting. It is a case of two different reports on the same incident. One report is from news sources that bungled up the facts; the other report, from a collection of "Anomynous" emailers. Definitely less credible than an National Enquirer. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

Funny thing is, there's people who actually believe that all 300+ Navy Sailors can be scared out of talking about their ship shooting down an airliner. Or the fact that a missing missile will not show up when offloading at Yorktown and silencing another thousand that's involved with the supply chain side of inventory. Some people and what they will believe! I suppose you think Armstrong actually walked on the moon! Yup!! I'll drink that cool-aid. I also don't believe in the Philadelphia Expeirment and the Bermuda Triangle. I also believe that we have time machines, because the fact that they used Nineties Technology to fake the Moon landing in the late Sixties. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

No no no no no. Look, having a crappy life situation or not being able to make much money at a job is NOT a justification to go robbing people or stealing what's not yours. So I don't want to hear, "Oh, the only reason I robbed and stole was because my economic status was in the gutter." SO? DEAL with it. Make it better. But don't you dare act as though simply because you don't have luxuries and leisure that you're ENTITLED to TAKE it without EARNING it. So this bullshit about how we need to "put the would-be criminal in a better position" is really just succumbing to his extortion scheme: "GIVE me success, or I'll make myself into a criminal problem for you to deal with." No no no no no. You're not going to get me to dig into my OWN pocket to give you what I EARNED just because if I don't you'll go and be a criminal. Time to grow up and realize you're not entitled to success, you have to work for it. What happens if we "put the would-be criminal in a better position" and he still is greedy and still wants more? This is like negotiating with terrorists or paying kidnapers ransom. Where does it end? Once you open the door to paying, you'll be bled dry, 'cause they'll know they can continually threaten you and you'll keep forking over. Errr. . .Ummm....What? You missed the point big time. My input has nothing to do with what to do to criminals, it was the why they commit crimes. I do not mean for the passage "put the criminal in a better position" to be read in a literal and how-to-fix-them sense, I meant it as a "for Example". _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

While I don't disagree, I think todays "entitlement syndrome" seems to play into it, as well. Oh yes. Nothing brings discontent like seeing someone more successful and being jealous about it, or being ignorant of the tools for success to get there. This syndrome is a hard nut to crack. Too bad there's not enough mentors out there to show the errors of their thinking. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

Don't get me wrong, I don't disagree with you. There are more crimes coming out of the low rent areas. That's for sure. I just believe that the socio-economic aspect is more fuel for the fire rather than the whole story. Put the would-be criminal in a better position, he or she may have less desire to commit the crime. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

I believe that the socio-economic reasons is just a secondary reason for crimes. Just one of the many reasons that push one over the edge. Primarily, I think it's psychological reasons that create the criminal. I agree with 1 and 2 as you do. But I have to side with mnealx with number three for the reason that there is just too many criminals to criminal psychologists to support the program. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

We have to wait for the results of the investigation. But, i'm siding on the cop with this one. I was a shit-head when I was a teenager. I've been arrested and I have "stepped out of the box". I know anti-authority when I see it. I also know what a fustrated cop looks like. This cop is not being a bully. At worst case scenerio, he made a innocent mistake, unless it's found out that those kids were being more of a pain in the ass than the camera shows. Part of growing up is learning why some behavior is not favorful. When you are an inmature teen, you can't conceptualize the reasons behind rules. Such as, skateboarding destroys very expensive tax-paid or private-donation structures and there are stake-holders involved. Therefore, you have to just enforce the rules and keep the kids from breaking the law till they grow up and understand the why's. And, if they break it one too many times, like I did, punish them. The reason the "just kids" grow up to be someone successful intrinsictly and extrinsinctly is because cops like this stop them from breaking laws and assist in correcting destructive behaviors. That's what makes cops' jobs so hard. Sad thing is there's a lot of full grown adults that are anti-authority "(which is fancy speak for "I am a low-end job holder because i can't finish major milestones in life so I blame Authority rather than have a good look at myself.) and never learned the lesson. I still talk to some high-school friends that "stepped-out-of-the-box". It's too bad they can't cash in on their stepping-out experience. Felony convictions can do that for you. Let's not confuse the issue here. They are not "stepping-out-of-the-box" here, these are kids behaving badly. Feynman, DaVinci, Columbus, Darwin, stepped out. These kids are not excercising thought, they are exercising selfishness, inmaturity, and hopefully, learning. I never tip if I take out. To me, tipping is something you do after the service has been provided; as a show of gratitude for their work. I don't believe in prorating especially since all they did was carry the cooks' work over to you. They didn't wait on you hand-and-foot. Might as well tip at a fast food joint. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
