  1. These stories always reminds me how much gov't beaurocracies can be seriously misaligned as far as standardization goes. It's too bad they won't give him the full amount. But I wonder if it's the full story. There's a lot of plea to emotion and devoid of a lot of important facts. When actually did that typist get hurt? did the typist get the whole 480,000 as a lump sum only, or did she get that plus some sort of monthly salary for life like the Soldier did? Is the compensation from both people coming from the same source or different set of rules and agencies? (for instance the U. S. Armed services has several different offices you can get compensated from and they usually do not know what the other hand is doing). Hope his plea works. Because this: is way too optimistic. Too bad he has to use his own money to fight the system. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  2. You would be surprised how many people are not concerned with the gas savings between a 15 mph vehicle vs. a Prius. To many, the savings is negligible enough that it doesn't show a blip when you are looking at pros and cons when car shopping. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  3. You directly and indirectly answered a lot of questions I had at the same here. Thanks. I understand now. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  4. will the same hold true if the bolded section was rephrased to show an engine tuned for work applications? Not meant to get off subject, but does the number of cylendars really have a huge effect on RPM peaks or does the cam profile claim a larger responsibility here? And to put myself into learning mode here: With the same considerations but with a demand to keep an engine spinning roughly at 600 rpms, would you rather have an 8 cylendar or a 4 cylendar to take up the task? _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  5. The more pistons rotating a crank, the more steady application of power and less space between ignition. a 4 cylendar engine is limited for ignition every 180 degrees of crank rotation. an eight cylendar engine rotates every 90 between ignition. This allows for more torque at a lower rpm due to a steadier application of power. It's common for torque to be higher than horsepower on V8's. On 4cylendars, the horsepower and torque may be around the same value or the horsepower is higher. In which case, the engine has to rotate at a high rate of speed before it can get it's max power which is why the V8 crowd looks at the 4cyl crowd in the same awww! as pro athletes look at the pee-wee league. (aawwww!!, he put a kazoo on the back of his exhaust pipe! Congradulations, your car still sucks.) _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  6. I got PRK. Three days is too soon to worry about results. I kept the house dark till the fourth day when I was able to see. Then my eyesight got better and better. Tomorrow things will get a lot better and the hurting will stop. Are you wearing a lens "bandage"? _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  7. Oh, in that case. . . the safe word is: epizêmizamios-blaptikos-atartaomai!!!! Try to say that with a ball gag in your mouth. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  8. Nowadays, only Native americans can get away with having long hair; that is Res' injuns, not "1/8th cherokee" that 99% of the population has. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  9. My previous long term relationships as well as my present Marriage have never gone beyond three dates before having sex. sex means different things to different people, especially across the gender. To me, sex is an action; love is an emotion. both together are the best, but both are not related by themselves and are not inclusive. If you are going to withold for now, it's always a good idea to communicate the why's to your partner. He may want to date others while you are waiting to see when you are ready to have sex, or not want to deal with it at all. Or he may like you enough to wait without dating others. This is where feelings get really hurt. Communicate!!! Or he is trying harder. That's good and also safe. Nothing wrong with playing hard-to-get either. Everyone has their own set of dating rules but one thing is universal: Communcation communication communication. without it, you can get bit in the rear. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  10. That's seems very far-fetched. We do get a few from that crowd here in the Navy(for some strange reason they seem to become engineers rather than a combat related field) but they either straighten up or booted out because they can't take the dicipline requirements, which are very high compared to their previous life. Gangs are not a "scene" like for instance the Goths or Cowboys (unless they are wanabes and act it for the cool factor) , it's a collection of punks and/or sociopaths with bad attitudes and highly associated with drug dealing and recruited by dissolusion and a false sense of comradreship. It's rare that a true gang banger joins up, but there are a lot of people that live in the same neighborhood that the gangs exist that join up and like to pretend to be gangsters. They usually form "gangs" on aircraft carriers. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  11. If you stop to think; there's hundreds of "secret societies" and a draw rumors from outsiders who are in awe of them. If we take a poll of all powerful people who were or still are associated with such organizations I wouldn't be surprised if the percentage was around 60% or more. Compared to the whole of the U.S. population, there aren't too many people of this caliber and they cannot truly be themselves being in the public eye. Why not join an organization of like-mindedness and relax with each other? Kick their shoes off? After all, they are not normal people. No hanging out at a coffee shop and getting a movie with friends with most of these people. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

  13. Yeah. I guess it's a disagree to disagree. Truthfully, I've always had respect for them donut chasers.
  14. Ah! The ol Krispy Kreme defense. I beleive many a cop has gotten out of a conviction on this plea. You don't think an escalation can be achieved in less than two minutes? Let's look at this logically: So the rate of escalation () equals the speed of the time it takes get to Krispy Creme from the scene() plus the wait in the drive thu() over thedrying of the glaze() , as shown here =(+)/ clearly states that an escalation rate less than one minute is very possible if the glaze drying time is ten minutes. DAMMIT the cop was out of time, man!! You'll need Kallend to figure out the escalation time if it was a 24-hour Fitness sign that lit up because I am not good with the mathematics involved with Refraction. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  15. He had time. The elevators were locked down, they weren't right next to the front door, there was no immediate danger of the dude disappearing into thin air. Time zeroes out the instant a bad guy becomes cornered. This is the issue. If anything, the dude is less dangerous if he feels he has a chance to disappear. Like I said before, people cornered are dangerous to "hostages" and/or officers containing them. This is a proven (unfortunately) fact. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  16. Simple, I would've continued to reason with the guy as long as it took to ensure a safe outcome for all. The taser should've been reserved as an extreme last resort had the father threatened harm to the baby in some way. I'm guessing the cop saw his "opportunity" to use the nifty taser toy and jumped on it. What would you have done? Knowing what only the security guards knew; someone has a newborn that isn't its known parent. I would have tasered him too. The guy was past being reasoned with. He was irratable, aggressive in stance and action and abusive. He was a danger: elevators off and nowhere to go. That's textbook cornering and VERY BAD. People WILL get irrational and highly unpredictable in this situation. There's no de-escalation after this point. the Extreme Last resort was now. The guy's actions cornered himself and brought in a baby. these cops aren't just making stuff up as they are going along, there are written procedures(written in blood) that they adhere to. If you are in a job that may require Deadly Force, you will practice these procedures very often. If you do not know of the Levels of Force, you may not understand what's going on in a lot of these cop videos. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  17. clearance jobs.com. opm.gov Important. . .Make sure your TS is current. It's only good for five years. If it has expired, there's no incentive for the company to hire you over over joe-blow fresh-out-of-college applicant. Those clearances are exceptionally expensive. Don't leave service without it. There's no such thing as a "used-to-be-TS" clearance. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  18. I don't think the guards had an awareness either. All googled articles point to the same AP article, which states that he was uncooperative with staff and guards when they were trying to find out his relationship to the baby. The taser may not have been a good idea. What would you have done? _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  19. The video is inconclusive and doesn't show anything at all. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  20. Not necessarilly illegal at all. Where'd you come up with that? the child was in custody of the CPS. There was a history of abuse in the family. They weren't allowed to take the baby. You now have a agitated person holding a baby that is now cornered. A cornered person is dangerous; with abusal history, you can't predict the guys action or mentality. I'm not applauding the taser part, but I am applausing the fact they at least took some sort of action. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  21. Well, what other options did he have? Telling him to stop did not work. It probably won't work again. Forget pepper spray. Trying to physically stop him? I would rather use the taser. A neborn cannot possibly survive a tug-of-war or wrestling match between two full grown adults. an infant's neck is easilier snapped in this scenerio than a drop. Hostage negotiation? Not a security guard. . .unless he is a retired HRT type. Problem is, I don't know what other stuff he had on him so I don't know that other tools he had to utilize. Maybe there's something better he could have done, but this is a charged situation. This was not a game of chess or Stratego, the bad guy was kidnapping(technically) someone and the guard had to do something fast. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

    Roaches

I think they all have them. Stay away from New Mexico though. I swear i heard them roar when I was younger. You could definitely hear them scuttle on the linoleum floors. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

  25. A lot of the coporations don't just create weapons for us. We send out specifications of what we want and award to the lowest bidder. It's the military who wants the soldiers and sailors to do their jobs with the least amount of deaths on our part that pave the way to these weapons. R and D is way too expensive for some company just to spit out a product and say "hey, try this for size". _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
