So I am out shopping for my Wife when all of a sudden a young woman thrusts an aluminum platter of clear-colored objects up to my face: Vendor: "Want to sample. . ." Me: "thank you" (pops offered kaliedioscope of opaqueness in my mouth) Vendor: ". . .a smell of our line of soaps?" FFFUUUKKK ME!!!!! I miss Scientologists sometimes Anybody else annoyed by the increased number of salesmen that pop up during the holidays? They are like ninjas meet the Inquisition. If it's not their helium filled alien disks they throw at unsuspecting pacemaker dependents, its their face laceration causing remote controlled helicoptors they buzz the japanese tourists with. How come you don't see BenBridge Jewelers shoot Rolex watches out of potato cannons at people or a Mac salesman bean someone with a laptop? It's always some cheap crap you wouldn't deposit in a Toys for Tots box for fear of the attendant Marine beating the crap out of you for inconsideration? _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

The last 7 years have proven that this is no guarantee of competence. You are right, it never proves competence. I'm not saying the expierence will prove a perfect (or mediocre) presidency. But for the sake of building a good party portfolio, a good plan of actions and milestones and patience can go a long way. Pretty soon, you may have a Lib president making decisions that pisses off the masses. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

35, cell only. When the young'un gets old enough, maybe I'll get the newest version of landline. If it becomes a need. Any body else remember the day when you bought that super-extended phone cord so you can walk away from the wall? _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

I can see two end results for this: as they temper, they completely change the Old Guard out and completely replace new people and have the same party with completely different people; or the original guard change themselves. I think you want the original people to be there. I'm thinking maybe some experience with a few of them serving as state governors and doing a good job at it. That way a Presidency isn't a major expierment for them. It would force them to look at issues a senatorship doesn't have to. They can't ignore tax increase possibilities, property rights and govt programs/entities in their prospective states by not voting for/against them in this position. They may get a healthy respect for the why's certain entities/programs exists and make more informed theories. In time, like you said, they may be more tempered, with the basic beliefs still central. I believe RP isn't the right answer now. He is low on the polls for many reasons, the major ones displayed in this thread. I guarantee my beliefs have nothing to do with the media's negative protrayal. I distrust the media since I've seen their product first-hand as a Skydiver and a member of the Armed Service. All my opinions were formed looking at his campaign sites, RP support sites and Lib.org. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

Nice one. You have Sweden. There's probably more I don't know. But it doesn't make Intrusive policy an option. They know we will jump in if any country gives them issues. They can afford that stance. Here in the U. S., you see people scream if oil gets too high, value of the dollar drops, or if jobs get to scarce or if basic comforts becomes interrupted. We have built a society that requires a considerable amount of need. Economics is the glue that allows for a country to exist to facilitate the need for the community to form. These interventions are pre-emptive or reactionary attacks on things that can pluck the economic "g" string. They also prevent going-ons that can bite us in the rear in the future. Being the nice-guy and letting things happen unawares around you does not have a positive outcome in any situation. In all types of civilization, nice guys are usually taken advantage of or attacked. They also don't get dates. That's my take on Intrusive foreign policy. There's no such thing as everybody getting together and deciding to become "nice" to each other. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

I tell you what. When the libertarians knock down the democrats or the republicans from their seats and move up I will buy you a case of your favorite beverage. After all, in U. S. history, there has been political upheavals and changes regarding parties. Why can't there be another upheaval? Whigs have come and gone and even put up a few Presidents. So why not the Libertarians? They have been here for around thirty years. Where's the stampede to join up? Why aren't people looking at them as a voice of change? _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

I can't think of any major country that doesn't have this policy. Even France has the Foreign Legion still in Africa. Who legitimized (if it is legitimate) the phrase "intrusive foreign policy" anyways? foreign policy is intrusive by nature. They are also ignored because they are a third party. It's not the third party notion that prevents them from legitimacy. They never broke out from the rest. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

I get this "fringe" feeling from the lib.org website in general. The website gives me the impression of nostalgia for history that comes from disenfranchisement and lack of understanding of the why's things are what they are today. EVERYBODY wants less govt and less taxes. But, Thomas Jefferson was from another time period where manufacturing, production and business models were different and Isolationism and pure independence of other countrys' imports were possible. "Intrusive" foreign policy is not a form of policy; it's the only way. Only the most poorest of third world countries aren't stakeholders of the rest of the world. I swear that some of the ideas from that site came out of the group meeting of a veranda of a 1800's plantation. Philosophically and economically speaking, the Lib.org's remind me of the Amish. Lib.org is Escapism Politics. This is why they are ignored. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

The cotton reference reflects the beliefs some people have that mj was made illegal by lobbying of the cotton industry. I am saying those in power remember their college age daze or their children's rebellion, then, not they are still smoking now. My response was not directed as me believing those sites not credible, but the fact that those sites may not be taken seriously by those in office. They were there too. You can find various professionals from all walks of life to represent any type of belief. Professionals backing up these matters does not give the argument more weight. You need majority in on it. If you match professional to professional on both sides of the issue you may find that there is an unequal amount backing. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

Problem with those sites and among others not neccessairly related but use the cotton conspiracy: You gather all that information and evidence and you march onto Washington in hopes of bringing legalization up for a vote when. . .all the elected officials that listen to the testimony suddenly remember the Sixties and Seventies. They were Parents during that time. Some may have been the affected youth of the time; long since grown out of the haze and dullness required to believe in the various failed philosophies. They will remember the Pot and all of a sudden all those pamphlets, websites and testimonials will be tossed out for real-world reality. The most destructive case against pot is the very same generation and decades that brought out it's popularity. Best bet. Wait till the children of the Ninties are in power to bring it back up. Those kids were using pot to pretend they were Hippies. They may still have the poser 70's reminiscence in them to change stuff. Skydiver007: Careful with that Anarchism stuff. Within Anarchy there's hundreds of charismatic leaders waiting to break out. Funny thing that Anarchy. All anarchists want to be leaders. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

What? You could pay them 1/4 of their current salary and have them lining up. KInd of like with lower court, JP's and Muni's, judges make 80k+ and most aren't even lawyers, some have no college, and they are lining up. Point is, overpay unqualified people and they will line up. Thx for being the, uh, devil's advocate. Laws of Supply and Demand also pertains to employment and bonuses. Just paying 1/4 salary just doesn't work in the CEO market. As far as Judges and other things related to govt service and pay: dont confuse buisness with Government pay scales. They are two completely different animals achieving two different means. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

I like this type of altruism the best. But there's a catch 22 to this. There is a lifetime amount of work and dedication involved just to get nominated that no one will do for others. You have to really want it and persue the candidacy by yourself. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

I doubt anyone ever reads the fine print. Seems one should hire an agent before consideration of re-enlistment. Yes we do. The fine print is quite simple (for reenlistment bonuses). If we can't finish up the time for whatever reason, we pay back, or DFAS stops payment, of our bonuses. In the Navy, we get our bonus in installments. If we are able to fullfill half our contract, then we are only allowed to collect half the bonus and owe the rest back. In another case, we were able get rid of a complete dirtbag worthless POS. When he was kicked out for having too many Physical Readiness failures (Food for freedom program), The DOD took all his separation pays to get their Reenlistment bonus back. He left the Navy with 300 dollars to his name. Does the wording apply to those injured in the line of duty? My rating as an HT2 in 84 was getting $40,000.00 for a six year re-up. It was spread out over the full six. I refused it and got out. Made much more as a civilian in the NDT field. I understand taking the money back if one is ousted for criminal reason or an off the job injury (motorcycle, skydiving, rock climbing...)but, for an injury recieved during combat... that is entirely wrong. They will only stop future payments. They will not ask for money back for off duty injuries (skydiving base jumping ect. . .) But I believe the pay stops only because you are moved from active duty to veteran status. I wonder if the pay was asked back because someone at DFAS didn't stop the payment after the soldiers were released from active duty. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
