  2. I'm not implying that an astronaut is more "Elite" than a Hip-hop artist, I'm saying that formal language is not required for the entertainment field. I'm not going to worry about those who believe this. If they can't grasp this need for a right place and a right time for communication style, they either are dumb or just posturing for some other reason. When you tell someone the time, do you say "It is three of the clock"? or "three o-clock"? We both are using some contractions in our posts. What came first, "cannot", or "can't"? I've read many recent and 200 year old books and notice huge differences in the writing. But, I've read old Supreme Court rulings from different times and see very near non-existent change in the language. I'm not going to worry about illiterate jurispredence types. I just believe that this worry is superficial at best _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  3. Wrongness is a cultural attribute, huh? What a thing to be proud of. I can't wait until countries start putting representations of their failure to get a man into space on their flags, now, too. For the many years that it has existed. I have never heard a General, Admiral, Astronaut, President or other major players in the control of the world utter these substandard words. It's almost always in the Entertainment areas: Music, Sports, Television. . . There is no problem here. Like I have said, It's always been here. These complaints are just another form of "Young vs. Old" argument. It's not something new. It seems to be new to you though. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  4. I watched for the fifth time, Hattie McDaniel at her finest in acting. She sounded like that, and this was seventy years ago. Louis Jordan 1944. "Is you is or is you Isn't My babee!" George Clinton. Frankie Smith? Ubbi Dubbi made popular. Hell, even Snoop Dog tried to copy thier brilliance. These "substandard" way of speaking is pretty old and has existed in every decade throughout the 20th century in music and some movies. You just weren't paying attention. There's legitimate culture here. Maybe not your culture. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

  7. Nope. Ship's sinking. SOS. Everybodygetthefukoff. "Thank you for sailing Stromboli Cruizeline. We know that you had a choice in picking Cruises, and boy did you pick wrong" It does discount. Single fathers are so rare as it is that it's not worth counting. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  8. We call it "socialized" due to what has to happen for healthcare to become "Universal". We would have to nationalize a considerable amount of property, pay scales, some intellectual rights, pharmaceuticals will be R&D'ed like Govt contractors if they aren't nationalized. ect ect. . . Socializing means giving government control of a major piece of the economy. However, if the govt keeps everything private and just provide money, then it will at best be only twice the cost of the IRA to operate. That's not including the cost of contractor-style mesh of govt and private companies cooperating. Personally, I would rather have other people work harder to pay their own insurance than I have to pay exta to provide them theirs. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

  11. Convince her to be careful if she goes this route. Mace will either stop a person (and you too because you will get some on you), or enrage someone to beat up on her harder. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

  15. Aww. . .don't be an apologist, It's a sign of weakness. Personally, I would like purple and huge metallic flakes paint job on the ship I serve on. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  16. The Army and the Marines are spread pretty thin right now. The Navy isn't though. They can easily pull us from iraq within a few days. The way I would see it, it would be a "containment war" Their Navy took a serious hit with the collapse of 1991. We would take the Barents, their East sea board area, then T-hawk the hell out of their natural resource plants and use strategically placed NATO nations to deny them imports and contain them. Russia is not in a good tactical position. We would just wait them out as they strangle to death. If it comes to the point where we would have to invade, we would pull soldiers and Marines out of Iraq and drop them in Nato countries that rim the country. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  17. We haven't had bell bottom trousers for many years. We're still keeping the white hats and crackerjacks. This is not a new device. It's been around for many years. That's an EAWS The wings she wears signifies that she got "pinned" in an aviation squadron. Aviators have gold wings. There's at least seven different types of winged devices in the navy. Khaki uniforms had at various times been in all services. Maybe except Air Force. You might as well say they are trying to look like 1940's army. Or even navy chiefs. I do not see any resemblance to a Marine uniform there. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  18. The only imports i've ever owned was a Honda CVCC 1980. 250,000 miles and still ran like a champ. I have great luck with f150's so far. My first was a 2000 and my present one is a 2003 4X4 king ranch edition. I never had to bring any in to be worked on. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  19. neat. learn something new every day.
  20. I think I would rather have the surface tension. I imagine it would be harder to surface, or swim, without the tension to provide you support. Um. . .never mind. I just saw some recaps on the high dives. the pool has two air devices on the bottom of the pool on either side of where the divers hit the water. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  21. I'm remembering that BMX hit it's peak during the mid Eighties. I remember all the movies and wanting a GT. Now teens and young adults want to make high jumps and flips on dirtbikes. I only see BMX bikes in the poor areas of cities where the old guys in wife beaters putt around on them. they've had it before. It's actually a favorite joke among comedians. Robin Williams theorized that they never tested them because every country would be kicked off. Personally, i believe if they are going to add badmitton, at least consider some Skydiving diciplines. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  22. Yep thats him, he has a habit of posting completely irrelevant pro gun threads put in stupid contexts. I do have a question though for the pro gun folks, does his posts make you think "Damn it, he's opened his mouth and made us look bad again"? Yup. Definitely hurts the "cause". Personally, i'm one of those kinds that is "shy" on advertising what, how many, why, and especially, my TTP's on gun ownership. Having to use firearms just does not turn me on. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
  23. Nope. Ban little mexican dogs. It probably wasn't documented. Weren't you the one that lived in an apartment building in Las Vegas? _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln

  25. I don't know. . .Bonnie and Clyde seemed to work out well. They were wacked out, but still compatible. In all truth, there's no right answer. Everybody has their own needs and priorities. You try to pick priorities that sound "right" rather than how you feel, you aren't going to have a good relationship. _____________________________ "The trouble with quotes on the internet is that you can never know if they are genuine" - Abraham Lincoln
