Silly me. I thought this was going to be a Germophobe thread... Admit it, Bill. You're going to want one for your house by the time you fly home. That thing looks almost as complicated as the space shuttle's toilet. Let us know how the massage feature works.

Why are skydiving helmets so ridiculously, unreasonably expensive?!
PiLFy replied to bertusgeert's topic in The Bonfire
Hi Bert, Here. You may have never seen this article. I find it helpful when discussing helmet safety: http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/gearbox/motorcycle_helmet_review/index.html It's a bit lengthy, but provides some good cues for which way a better skydiving helmet could be made. I think it's entirely possible to build a much better helmet than is currently available. It wouldn't cost, or weigh much more, either. -

What helmets are these, please? I know of none that are currently certified. -
I'm impressed, Sparkplug. Be honest, did you use a dictionary this time? You talked smack, & made a lousy argument in public. You got called on it in public. You didn't like that. You sent me a nasty PM. Because I'd already declined to out another couple of jerks. You thought you could get away w/it, too. You got outed. Now, you're whining about it in this thread. What's that button in your avatar say? Yep, that's about it...
-
This. If someone wants to be an Ass. They can get called on it. BTW, it's circumstances & unacceptable.

Stop staring @his pic, Skymama. How's your nose? -
VB, A lot of people in this country have never been anywhere near a farm. They're not going to know spooking cows will stop their milk.
-
I'm not whining. Others asked me to out dipshits who send PMs like this. I chose not to before, but made an exception. He talked smack. He got decidedly called on it. The Truth Hurt. He didn't like it, & got pissy (again). If you've got something productive to add to the discussion? You're welcome. If this is all you got. Crawl down the same beer hole w/your friend, sparkplug...

In this case. I'll make an exception. running you mouth From: mjosparky Date Sent: May 15, 2011, 8:23 PM You are an asshole. Maybe you should learn to take advice given for what it is a chance to pick up a little knowledge. As far as what you do other than skydiving, who gives a shit. The fact that you hide behind a blank profile tells a great deal about the type of person you are.

"I had two big AFF students this weekend who fell at ~143 mph in stable belly flight." Daaaaaamn. How many pounds were they?
-
Take as much as you want...PLEASE. We've had three days, w/seven more straight days of rain predicted. The DZ is gonna be a freakin mud pit again.
-
You've got 37 jumps, & they didn't teach you this? Average belly-to-earth freefall speed is 120MPH. 120MPH = 176 feet per second. It takes about ten seconds to reach terminal. @176FPS, 1K' is a hair over five seconds. I'd love to give you a personal demonstration. Trouble is, it's been raining every F'ing weekend x at least six weeks. It's supposed to rain for the next seven days straight around here, as well.

VB is a friend of mine. My joke was w/him, not you. English isn't his first, or second language, as I'd said. He simply misunderstood at first through translation. You've also missed half our exchanges as they happened via PMs. There's nothing smart-assed in my posts. You simply missed that fact, & zeroed in a a quip you didn't understand. Nanny States are anathema to me. Not knowing me, you wouldn't know that. You, however, should have seen where I've posted others can wear whatever they please. You missed that, too. SkyGods & Noobies...That's been addressed before, including in this very thread. Did you miss that, as well? By your yardstick, a SkyGod is someone who jumps, no? You don't jump anymore. I believe you've cited safety concerns as the reason. Are you getting testy in your armchair retirement? Trolls aside, some here are trying to have a productive discussion. I bring more than 22 jumps to the table, Sparkplug. I've ridden & raced motorcycles for about 27 years, & have worked in nursing for >15 years. If you think I've nothing to add, here. You're blinded by false ego. Being as this is Sunday morning. If you fired from the hip in an alcoholic Saturday night haze. I can understand.

Nah, not worth the effort. We already know who the idiots are on this site. If someone talks smack to me in an uninvited e-mail? Plunk goes the delete key. Done. A Fool is a Fool, & not worth wasting time on. I'd rather stay on topic. On blocking PMs. I've received far more good ones than bad. I think you're missing out. I guess openly being a lawyer, though. Perhaps people might pester you w/legal questions? Thanks for the sentiment, but I'll keep them.

Yeah, I know. That's what makes it fun. They don't get under my skin a bit. I do find it sad that some people are so limited. I looked up an old article for someone privately. It contains some good info on helmet tech. It is a bit lengthy, but worth the read. I'll post the link here for All. http://www.motorcyclistonline.com/gearbox/motorcycle_helmet_review/index.html Plus, here's the SI article I had mentioned: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/vault/article/magazine/MAG1176377/1/index.htm Have a nice N safe weekend, everyone.

Auf der hellen seite. I've received hate mail PMs from a couple of trolls. It appears they don't wear helmets. If only they didn't (in)breed first...

"Hopefully a healthy discussion is a result of this thread and maybe a seed could be planted." Maybe we're going about this the wrong way, Lance? Let's try a different tack. How about: "Hey, guys. You want to make a boat-load of money? Find a large, existing carbon fiber shell. Source some real pad sets for it. Then, sit back & make serious bank on it."
-
"Then someone attacks the low experienced jumper when he is obviously making good points. Sometimes people can't see things because they are too close. Maybe just maybe someone that has stepped back or someone that hasn't had the same experience that you have can offer something intelligent to the discussion. Maybe they can see things that you can't because you are so close. Don't attack an intelligent response because his jump number is not as high as yours." OK everyone, I didn't pay him to type that....But, I liked it.
-
so, please have a go at this post. Oh, alright... u sound a lot like me or every other jumper that started off just fresh, knew everything and had a solution to every problem; Nope, far from it. looks like you are the one that's offended.. mr. young hotshot! Again, nope. I'm not. I was just joking w/you. You surprise me a little w/this reply, VB. It must be a translation-to-English-as-a-fourth-language thing. It's all good. I still respectfully disagree. Wear what you want, bud. Maybe I'll get to take you up on that couch offer next year.

"tell people you spent the weekend drinking and you get a positive reponse (maybe it's because I'm Irish, I don't know)." !!

Mega-good vibes coming their way

"I could take it out but I'm too stubborn I guess." Prospective employers are viewing you as a package. Participation in a high-risk sport (of which they are most likely very ignorant) would definitely go in the negative column. You haven't invented a better lightbulb for them, yet. All they'll see is potential medical bills & disability. It's up to you.
