  1. Oopsy... Didn't know dat. Two final thoughts on this: 1) Stop telling people these only take a few hours a piece to make. Make it a few days, instead. 2) Have you considered making any walking canes & staffs w/figureheads? I bet they'd sell well, & wouldn't take long to do.
  2. These are really nice, Steve. Have you set yourself up a website for selling them? Cheap sites don't cost much per month. I think you should try it for six months to a year. You might make out very well. Just don't make any of those into pipes: http://www.hulu.com/watch/228079/aka-tommy-chong
  3. What's that old saying about being able to pick your friends, but not your family? It's true. Yes, I have. I've regretted the necessity, but never the act. It was no spur of the moment decision.
  4. Two issues: **The Conjuntiva is only a membrane. W/no internal pressure changes to worry about. It shouldn't be an issue, but ask your eye MD. **Pink Eye is highly contagious until using the eye drops for X amount of days (I don't remember how many). Giving Pink Eye to several others on the plane would be considered poor form.
  5. You are not alone, Shah. I found these guys w/a quick search: http://memory-alpha.org/wiki/Dilithium http://www.angelfire.com/scifi/Camelot/Engines/Dilithium.html
  6. An AFF jump w/two instructors costs >$300. A tandem only runs about half that. My first three jumps were tandems. As much as I like to be the one in control of hazardous situations. I didn't mind having someone right @my shoulder, showing me various insights for landing approaches, etc... OP, there's a saying: "Shaddup N jump!" Look up Popsjumper (http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?username=popsjumper;), & go get it .
  7. You could finish your AFF progression, & maybe the whole license in a week @Skydive The Farm. It is a very good, & safe DZ. Whatever you like.

    Biomechanics

Wow... Simply, Wow. Taunting a fellow jumper over life-threatening injuries he's still recovering from. That's the lowest class act I've ever witnessed on these boards. He doesn't have to come get you w/a baseball bat. W/that much hate in your heart? You're already fucked.
  9. I'm familiar w/firearms. Just not full auto stuff. My perception is a lot of overheated barrels in the military.
  10. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ar0_um--LDQ 15K rounds on the same barrel? No shitsky. Being fully auto, I would think it would eat barrels from over-heating.
  11. Wait a minute. I thought you were issued a rifle in Switzerland, along w/a token amount of ammo. Is it not the government's rifle? P.S.: She ain't been dead that long. Go ahead un dig 'er up. Let's have a look @your handywork ...
  12. Bad idea, Tyrone. Edit: Meh...Tyrone, Tracy, whoever. I liked the trauma versions better. Now the dipshit can do it again w/all his teethies & unbroken bones .
  13. Sounds like someone is getting ready to try & BS their Doctor...

    Wooden bike

Though nowhere near as intricate, this reminds me a little of John Harrison. One of the earliest proofs that he was a genius came w/a tower clock he was commissioned to design & build on a large estate. It took him two years, being completed in 1722. It's in Brocklesby Park, & has been running continuously ever since. Almost three hundred years from a radical new design, made almost entirely of various woods. Key to his design, was using a tropical tree's wood for specific parts usually requiring lubrication. Lubricating oil was a major cause of a mechanism's inaccuracy. This wood slowly exudes its own natural oils = problem seen & solved. Those interested can learn more, here: http://www.amazon.com/Longitude-Genius-Greatest-Scientific-Problem/dp/080271529X/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1306768959&sr=1-1 It's a wonderful little book.
  15. Heartbreaking... They seemed to be such a wonderful young couple.
  16. You can tape the ear openings & wear earplugs. If you find hearing the radio difficult. Just reach a pinky inside the helmet to flick the plugs out once under canopy. When choosing & applying tape to the Protec cranial protection system. One must respect the high-end materials & fit N finish of the product... Juss slap some tape on & jump!

    Fear of toilets

Not in my book. Gots 2B a cultural thang. Imagine dropping a big, honkin load w/strangers standing all around you? What do they do? Whistle, & not make eye contact? "Doop_Dee_Doop_doop_Doo..."

    Fear of toilets

Jeeze...What is it w/toilets over there? This one is downright uncivilized. How the H*ll are you supposed to read the paper wearing the glad bag?! http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=80c_1306527204
  19. What are you doing here? I thought one of the gals chained you to her bed???
  20. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=4059225;page=1;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;mh=25; Hi, There's lots of good info, & some good vid links in the above thread. Freefall noise is about 130dB. L&B Solo/Optima audibles are 120 & 115/120dB, respectively. I contacted L&B a while back. I asked if their audibles could be hacked to lower the volume. They said "No." They suggested what has already been said, here. Turn the unit around in the helmet, & stick gaffer's tape over the hole. I don't have an audible, yet. Their suggestion should work fine, though. I have hearing loss & Tinnitus. I'm also hypersensitive to loud noise. I always jump w/earplugs. I buy decent disposable foam plugs. They're good for 33NRR, I believe. When I do buy an audible. I'm sure some Gaffer's tape will do me fine. The ProTrack is a good unit. I wouldn't sell it.
  21. Hey, guns don't kill people. Chuck Norris does...
  22. 1:1 I got to do one whole jump this weekend. The rain has been never-ending around here. I got to do a recurrency jump. It was my first jump in nine months, following a back injury. I didn't break in half! Hoo_RAH !!
  23. Happy 200th! Go get your GoPro...
  24. I'm sure there are plenty of other hypothetical, anecdotal situations that can support it, and disprove it (running into a fence post under canopy, hitting your face on a tree under canopy, etc). You need to face the fact that there are industry standards for head gear in high-speed sports, and not all skydiving helmets match up to those. This. I don't want to argue w/you, Dave. You never did answer my reply in the other helmet thread. Skydiving helmets could be made much better, w/o a weight or appreciable size penalty. Everyone should be free to wear whatever they want. Some of us want more protection. That is do-able. It wouldn't have to cost a whole lot more, either. That's all we're saying.
  25. Got one for you. The Benny from SkySystems USA. Between $55 and $80 and looks pretty good. Probably has some of the best protection around too. BTW, I've got them in stock. This reply is for Bertus. This post just had both quotes handy. First, I have a Benny. It was only $65. Replacement pad sets are only $20. The padding is nice & thick (unless you wear XL), & it fits excellently on my oval-shaped head. Second, I know why there's a price gap between $65-$200 for helmets in this sport. I just lost the latest of several auctions on Ebay for an Alti. Some dumb sh*t just paid $140 + $10 S&H for a used Galaxy. $155 + tax gets one brand new w/a ten year warranty. Siempre unbelievable... I do hereby officially give up on finding a decent used Alti on Ebay. Why do most skydiving helmets cost $200 or better? Because the sport is dominated by young, bling-conscious men willing & happy to pay it.
