Thank You for this. It's a good thing I jump a different brand container almost every weekend, huh? This is good. I was running out of annoying Newbie questions to ask the instructors ...

Hi Dave, I'm aware of what can happen when chopping during a two-out scenario. Thank You for taking the time to review that. Please elaborate on this: "The misrouted RSL should have been caught in a pre-jump gear check." I asked an instructor early in my AFF progression about checking the RSL. I was told you can't. You can check that it's attached properly @the three ring(s), & @the reserve pin. How it's routed in between only the rigger knows. I still use rentals every weekend, & check everything I can on them. How would I check an RSL thoroughly?
-
Hi Jerry, I read what the poster wrote. I've heard many good things about the Dolphin. That's why I asked. This is the only time I've found this negative claim against those containers. It leads me to believe the opinion isn't based in fact. Why are you no longer amazed, but just dumb?

FWIW, I jump a different rental rig almost every weekend. I find different bruising from each one. The harnesses tend to be tight, & my pack jobs aren't the smoothest... If the V3 is yours? Ask a rigger to eyeball the fit. Perhaps a resizing or padding are in order. If it's a rental? I vote for "Suck it up, Cupcake." A full weekend of loving is gonna leave some bruises.

Shoot/kill would-be robber, get life sentence.
PiLFy replied to npgraphicdesign's topic in Speakers Corner
I don't agree w/a life sentence, BUT... This isn't a new story. There's video floating around the Net. Watch it. He walks back after the threat has been removed, & finishes him off. His partner was long gone by that point. -
Hey Earl, I've >30 jumps on mine. I think they provide better protection than a Protec, provided you don't wear an XL. They all have the same shell size. The thickness of the foam padding determines the helmet's size. My size LG fits better than any Protec I've ever tried, & offers very good protection. New pad sets only cost $20. I managed to fit an Audible inside mine, as well. They're great helmets. You won't be disappointed.

Alright, but this owning my age really fux w/my denial...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fienNK0DtUA Hi Guys, I've a rigging question, please. I've searched the Dolphin threads, but haven't found this incident being covered. Is there any problem w/the Dolphin's RSL design as this video claims? Thanks. Kenny

I don't want to pick a fight w/you, Ross. I think you're dead wrong, though. Ron has >5,000 jumps. You have about forty... You should listen to him more. You wouldn't be the first Newbie to pick a canopy that's a bit too small, hoping to get away w/it. One day, you're faced w/a challenging set of circumstances, &.... Yeah, we're reading about you in the Incidents threads. "I don't see how a larger canopy would help me other than keeping me aloft for a little while longer. While that may be enough to get me out of the situation, it may be enough to keep me from landing because the canopy keeps flying instead of sinking into my landing area of choice." You do realize that a larger canopy can sink into a tight spot, right? A smaller one will just stall & maybe kill you. Plus, you want to bounce off a tree @10MPH or 20MPH? I'm new too, Ross. I think you're putting too much faith in others keeping you out of harm's way. People w/the best intentions can still make mistakes. They could not make any, but things still have a way of happening. I just happened to stumble onto this thread, & read your posts. Again, I'm not trying to start a row w/you. You do sound a bit too confident for your experience level, though. I'd hate to read here one day that you found out the hard way. There's a wealth of hard-earned experience on this site. Utilize it. -
The rigger gets a bottle or dinner, no argument. Decent beer is $30 a case. I say be happy w/what you get. I went to a new DZ where the beer hounds had their hands out before I finished my waivers, or even got near a plane. Beer rules are good fun. If abused, they can be a turn-off.
-
Uhm_uhmmm, Not so fast, Sudsy: http://www.skydiving.org.vt.edu/goodstuff/beer.htm -"If more than one first is accomplished on a single jump, only one case of beer is required." So it is written. So shall it be (Until you pay a lobbyist a pile of money to get it amended...).

OK, fine. Don't take the bait. I'm glad you got a new rig. Enjoy it tomorrow

"yeah she's fun! and oh my god so much better..." Hi Shah, OMG, can it be??? A 210 square foot canopy is hardly a perfect size 6. Has personal growth just occurred? Oh Shah, say it aint so...

Congratulations Melissa, "My training kicked in." It sounds like you did everything just the way you're supposed to. OK, except for the pack job ... My understanding is a lot of people get sloppy about doing full controllability checks. I'll bet more than a few would have tried to land that without doing a full flair. You knew not to. Hey, lesson learned, no animals were harmed, & you got all your gear back. It's all good. Sorry about your helmet & audible .

http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4130986;page=unread#unread Here ya go, VB. As you'll see when reading through this thread. You're not alone. Look @the bright side. He helped you get a really high kill score that night .

My one warning? I did nothing. Kindly address your warning to the attacker. Thank you.

Old school dogma holds that one shouldn't buy an Audible until >100 jumps. I disagree. Arguably, I think students/newbies need these the most. I bought one once off student status. I've already had an Alti fail on me. I went low because of it. I'm too new to recognize altitudes by eye. This wonderful little device gives me an additional layer of safety. It's a stress reducer for me. I don't rely on it as a primary means of alt. awareness. It's a backup for if my alti fails, or I get distracted by increasingly challenging group dives. You can adjust all the warning alts, & the volume AND pitch of the alarms (very important for me w/my auditory nerve damage). Read its capabilities on L&B's site. It does everything you could ask. One thing I didn't realize before buying it. You can track your altitude during the climb in real-time, ten foot increments. Compare it w/other wrist Altis & Audibles. You'll find it's drop-dead accurate. The new case is water-proof to all but repeated dunkings in the pond. You can cram it in your helmet, & sweat on it for years w/o worry. With two means of altitude detection, I'm much safer in FF & the landing pattern. Throw in L&B's legendary customer service, & it becomes a no-brainer. $200 is a whole lot cheaper than a broken leg, or worse... Thank you, L&B.

"OK, I thought you implied that the physician was incompetent with your doc-in-a-box story. .." I was implying that. I've seen gross incompetence in physicians. To hear "Meh...you'll probably be OK..." doesn't instill confidence in the opinion. To me the Kenny vs Spenny idea was funny, but that"s just me amusing myself."[i/] Fair enough. Some people know a little and pretend to know a lot, and visa versa"[i/] Yes, some do. I'm not. "I'll stop now." Have a lovely weekend

You can start by following you own advice school boy. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4135173#4135173 This is where your link goes: Re: [mjosparky] Do you get hard openings before a thunderstorm? [In reply to] Quote | Reply You still sore about the last time, Sparkplug? Get over it... So, Sparkplug. You're stiiill sore about last time(s)??? You really need to get a life.
-
"Can you hear me?" No... You can start by getting the name right. Junior High School was a looong time ago. Knowing something, & knowing enough, are two different things. If a competent physician cannot diagnose a patient sight unseen? What makes you think you can? Without a proper evaluation. No one knows just what is going on in there. If he jumps. The OP will be taking a huge chance. He might get away w/it. He might cause permanent damage, & regret it the rest of his life.
-
After my first jump. It took a good 3-4 days for my ears to clear. A few months later, I did two more in one day. Again, my ears took a few days to clear. Now that I'm a grizzled old veteran (Hey, what's that howling sound? ). My Eustachian tubes allow me to equalize much faster. It takes time to adapt. There may be nothing wrong. Take a Claritin, or some Benadryl. If you're still not clear in another day? Go see an ENT to be safe. You may simply have done too much too soon. Good Luck.

Just in time for the BBQ this weekend !

How many times & ways do you need to read it? You've a confirmed ear injury. Jumping this weekend could mess you up for quite a while. It could do permanent damage. You ran it by your Doctor, & he said it should be OK? What kind of Doctor was this? A qualified ENT? Or, was he an import @a Doc-in-the-Box? Search the threads. Read the many jumpers who regretted making the mistake you seem determined to make. It's a free country, Cody. Good Luck to you...
