  1. "HELL NO! I'm sorry slappy paddles are even worse! That's for guy who THINK they can drive stick! Yes bla bla bla technology bla bla bla bla fast shifting bla bla bla...the only reason they are there is so that the freaking Hipster can hold a bladder buster frapamockahalfcafnofatsoychai thing! Real men...and I'm talking guys with hair on their chests and who know how to pump their own gas, check the oil and tire pressures....drive stick!" Good grief, Shah. Would you like to tell that to these guys? Their only the best & fastest drivers in the world: http://www.formula1.com/ You would pee yourself, &/or die even trying to get remotely close to their warmup lap times... Once upon a time, manual trannies were superior for a few different reasons. Automatics have gotten better over the years. The equation has changed. You're an engineer for Christ's sake. You should be telling us about this. Is any part of your life not dictated by your dick???
  2. You flipped his 442? Oh, that's bad... I'm surprised he even let you use the pickup. I could drive your '47, pops.
  3. Define Youngster, Lisa. Almost all of my cars have been sticks. I've also driven tractor trailers w/15 & 18 speed trannies. Once you're used to them. You don't even use the clutch unless you come to a complete stop. Hell, I even drove a dinosaur once w/two sticks (main & auxiliary). I won't teach someone on one of my vehicles. It's too abusive to the drive train. I remember a news report about a year ago. Some ghetto bonehead carjacked a sports car. It was a stick. The turd didn't know how to drive it, & fled on foot.
  4. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=4169936;page=3;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;mh=25; You might want to look through the posts in the above thread. Apparently, the British training methods give many pause... Is going across the channel a possibility? I wish you the best of times in your new journey
  5. Dougie, I don't know you. I'm not trying to pick a fight w/you, either. Your views on this need adjusting. People do not feel fear the same way, or to the same extent. I'll give you an example. I used to help care for two brothers who were patients in a large practice. These guys were both as big as Buicks. They were also mob enforcers. It wasn't BS bravado. They were enforcers for real. They'd shoot you, or break both your legs w/o hesitation if on the clock. Pull a needle out on either one of them? They'd turn white as a sheet. I doubt a knife or gun would have phased them as much. Phobias are irrational fears by definition. Fear of heights is most definitely a phobia. Yes, it's true that we all need to learn to properly handle fear. That's a part of this, but only a part. Just as some people feel more pain than others in medical situations (it's true). Some people experience much higher fear levels than the rest of us. Some people become primed for the initial fear to become paralyzing almost instantly. Not everyone is stopped by fear because they never learned how to handle it.
  6. Rocking It!!! Awesome, dude. Until now, I've only seen pictures of you flying on your back.
  7. A quick search on the Internet will yield some VERY nice work. Those artists do a lot of online sales. It isn't cheap, though.
  8. Who are you replying to? The guy in Arizona, or the guys in Florida? BPA's agism.
  9. Screw 'em. Go across the channel to Spain, & get your licenses there.
  10. No argument on that. I meant you guys.
  11. This is a good example of why the instructors forum was set up. "PTPTPTPTPTPT!!"
  12. Me B coool breeze, Mahn... "In conclusion, students grab the stupidest things - at the worst possible times - so any time I see a student's hands near his shoulders, I automatically protect my cutaway and reserve handles." I don't fault you.
  13. I was the one who filmed it, me and my friends make videos, that day we were bored, and the person that fell out, named matt, nicknamed mullet. Saw one of the kids, that he knew, and what he liked to do as a joke was smack them in the back of the head, they always do it to each other. So I thought it would be funny to film it, he rolled down the window and was gonna reach out and smack him, but since the new cars windows only go half way down, he couldent reach. So he opened the door, and was hanging onto the door, but the kid on the bike swerved in closer, and mullet lost his balence after the door hit the back of his bike seat, and fell off. He didn't die. pv8man999: and for the rest of the people that say things like .."I'm glad hes dead he deserved what he got"...with out any facts...those people can go to hell antipop59: well let's clarify one thing. The people who saw the video and made that kind of comment were under the [wrongful] suspicion that Mullet was attacking a random kid. If this had been the case, what would you think. I'm curious pv8man999: well if that were the case if I were a random person and I KNEW that's what they were doing...I might have said something similar pv8man999: He had both sides of his jaw broken, 5 missing teeth, broken nose, and also the jaw bracket that holds the front teeth in, and his eye got cut. pv8man999: he was hospitalized in the university of chicago childrens hospital and he had to have lots of surgery pv8man999: also the back of his skull was cracked and they had to stop the bleeding before anything pv8man999: in his brain Question: how old was the kid pv8man999: 14 I'm flat-out amazed the kid didn't die instantly. It sure looks like that car was moving in the opposite direction. Even still, it looked fatal. So, he wasn't bullying some random, innocent kid. They were in fact friends who were simply horsing around after all. It sounds like he had a subdural bleed, too. One incredibly lucky kid. I'm betting he learned from the experience. I've certainly done some stupid sh*t as a kid. I'm betting others here have too. How about you give the kid a break?
  14. Sorry about the unintentional thread hijack, Cinders. I hear what you're saying. I've met a lot more good than bad so far. I think those guys are in the minority. Oh yeah, what type of work do you do? Make an Abrams main battle tank flinch, huh?
  15. You did watch the video, right? The kid's head took an 30MPH uppercut from a 3K# car. What do you think happened to him???
  16. Bill, We don't know he was trying to hit him @all. Agreed on the PSA, though.
  17. He had bad intentions because he was hanging out the door to (maybe) yell "What_Up?!" to his (maybe) pals? Yeah, he screwed up. Lotsa of kids do. It doesn't warrant the death penalty.
  18. Again, you're assuming he had bad intent. Teenage boys do far worse things in the name of fun. They're all friends afterward, as well. You can't tell the whole story from a few seconds of video. Is there anyone who watched the vid, & didn't immediately know the kid was decapitated by that oncoming fender? Blood & body parts weren't necessary. Apology accepted.
  19. +1, If you can have Surf N Turf. Why not Claw & Rack??? Shoot the bear, & light the fires . That's some good eating!!
  20. Those pillcams aren't new. George Jetson took one when I was a kid. The one you took has been in use for at least eight years. Eric, I hate to break it to you, buddy. You swallowed a used (maybe very used) pillcam. In the future, always insist on only swallowing a new one. Future applications? I'm picturing a videographer w/a second cam in his/her tailpipe. I guess the laughter would get the tandems to relax more when you stuck that in their faces. In all seriousness, I'm hopeful for future minicams. A better pencam mounted on the helmet to capture the facial expressions of first-timers? Little bitty minicams that give CX150-quality vids? My neck isn't getting any younger, either. Christ, I cringe when looking at the setups people used to wear. I wonder how many years before today's GoPro wrist mounts look like that?
  21. You know... I wish the H*ll you had put a warning on that post about the vid's content. Not everyone enjoys seeing people decapitated. Are you always so quick to judge others? Maybe he was only trying to scare his friend on the bicycle? He might not have meant to make contact @all. All I saw was a few teens horsing around. That's what teen boys do. Do you have any boys? Do you want strangers enjoying his filmed death because they misunderstood his intent?
  22. I'm cool. I just don't see how grabbing MY harness...in front of MY shoulders...placed my hands near handles w/my shoulders & several inches between them. That's all.
  23. Again, my hands weren't behind my shoulders . I don't see the confusion here. I hear what you're saying. I just don't think it's cool to besmirch my TI's when you weren't there. They were (& still are) very safe. I now excuse myself from an instructor's thread...
  24. OK, you guys know a lot more about it than I do. I thought my way of solving it would be helpful. Maybe I'm not making myself clear? My hands weren't behind my head. They were right on top of my clavicles. That was all I needed for leverage to swing my legs up.
  25. Take it up w/PD. They're their canopies, & that's what they said about them.
