Cessna boogie?! I hope you're going for the people or because turbines are christoofar away (or because it's a Caravan), because otherwise why not jump a turbine? I figured that. I will try to see if there is a way to do it for next summer. I emailed Tommy of the demo team today, looking ahead to the future. Thanks, Harry I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. I keep falling out the door of the plane. Harry, FB #4143

I see it there, and it looks to be about 16 megabytes. If your software supports it, you might try putting it in .mpeg format. It will make a smaller file that is easier to download. However, the AVI file has a lot more info in it, and actually is needed if one wants to load it to a DV camera (as far as I know). I have to check FAR 105 again, but I'd like to do a jump on this island when I go there this weekend. However, I don't know anyone who'd take me up even if I could get clearance to make the jump (and where I'd get permission to land). In any case, we'd need to be careful, since this is the second busiest airport in the state of Massachussetts behind Logan Int'l in Boston. The island is about 6 miles wide by 12 miles long, I think. Has anyone ever tried to set this kind of thing up before? Please help. Gratefully, Harry I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. Steve Utter coached me on sit fly a couple of times and I asked him about RW as useful, even if you free fly. He said it's best to get at least 50 or so flat flys as a basis. I don't know where you jump, but we'll meet sometime I'm sure, Sky(bytch) Lisa. You seem as though you rock. I started doing a lot of sit flying last year after about 500-600 RW jumps (I still do RW and RW video). This year I began getting coaching on head-down and have done mostly free-flying in the last few months (still love those 10-20 flat flys though, esp the swoop!!). I am just now getting to the stage where I can reduce the tension enough to find "the tube" (dead air on back and front of body) and be in a head-down on most jumps, but once in a while still tense up unnecessarily. My point is that doing RW, heads, up, and head down flying acceptably is a challenge, but especially head-down! Just to stay current with a few improvemnts burns 400+ jumps/year for me. Having said this, why do I do it??? I have some close friends who free-fly and I want to jump with them also, I love it when I do it, and it's a challenge. I have met new people with different outlooks and have learned that there are super people in both old and new stuff. Once you begin to understand the mood and techniques in RW and "free-fly", you will hopefully smile and give handshakes to others, regardless of discipline, before the exit. It's all good!! Together we own the skies!! Acutally, so do Whuffos, but it's more fun to hang out in it than to just look up in it. Respect the flying disciplines of others. It's fun, and it's usually not a piece of cake, especially if you are close-minded. Harry I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. Mine's 1198:1, due to taking another skydiver to the E/R after she sprained both ankles during a tarmac landing. I try to be conservative enough to avoid having to go on my own behalf. I was out for dinner on Wells Street in Chicago with some friends on July 30, 1997. The remaining one in our group of 4 was late, not showing up until 8pm. I asked Rob Faurot where he had been, when he explained he had done his first or second AFP at Skydive Chicago. I asked him when he would go again, and he said August 10. I had heard about another friend in California who had jumped and felt quite overloaded by the experience, although he loved it (never went again, though). I told Rob I would go with him. He recalled thinking that numerous others had also said so, only to recant. The day dawned mostly cloudy at what is now the old airstrip in Ottawa, IL. We were trained and I had to wait between 2 and 3 hours. I was very eager about it to the instructors, although I had no idea what to expect as far as the sensation, and knew nothing about what all these experienced skydivers did once they remained in the sport. They just disappeared into the sky and did some cool landings. It's all a mystery . . . My tandem master was Ros Brooke, and there was a videographer (I wonder where he is now?). In the plane, I reasoned that this tandem master had done this many times before and that I would just follow instructions and just trust him (not always the best course of action). When we exited, I recall the mouth full of air and the town below. The periphery of my vision was all a haze and wind rushed by. I guess my desire to go again came about 4 or 5 seconds into the jump. The trip under canopy was beautiful and the JM had about 1500 jumps at the time. I bought a license plate rim and a shirt and still remember it as one of the best days of my life. I had been listening to a Tony Bennett CD on the way back home that day, and still play it once in a while with a memory of that time. Some of us are sentimentalists. Today, I am learning head-down, do a lot of sit fly, and still do a bunch of RW (most of my earlier experience). Most of the same instructors are still at that DZ (now at a newer airport built as a DZ), and can be depended upon for good advice and cheer (and the occasional Nationals or swoop award for some). Those of us who were new 5 years ago make fewer mistakes now, although the first year or two was quite an exerience for me and those who jumped with me. Many of them are still around, too. You know who you are; rest assured I think you are cool and my life is better for having met you and the sport. Harry I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. James, Did you bother to go out? I thought it was cool, too, especially since the jets are flying by my place as I type. I would have gone out to jump today had the weather not been so socked in earlier. Will probably be at Skydive Chicago Sunday. Buy my Jumpsuit or get my A License taken care of? hmmmmmmm
dreamsville replied to Viking's topic in The Bonfire
Jump first, suit later. BUT, the jumpsuit may become important depending upon your body shape (heavy vs floaty, etc.). For free fly, it's a whole 'nother thing, of course. You may even find that your flying skills may be challenged and improved more without a suit for now, since some of us use the suits to keep us more in our comfortable flying range, not to mention wearing lead. Don't forget about the rig and stuff. Without that you'll be stuck on the ground wearing your pin. When I touch mine it reminds me of my love of the sport as well. To add to this, if there are line twists you may have to cut away since the force of the spin and the twists may prevent righting of the canopy. This happened this summer to someone at our DZ who fought it well after the spin had gone into a "break" (top of canopy almost appears to be diving). He chopped in time to land with a couple of bruises as his reserve slider was coming down at the tree level. Without twists, it looks like everyone here is on the ball about it. Either by riser or by brake lines, if you can straighten it fast then you can look for traffic and make other decisions once the immediate crisis is past. Hopefully there will be no other crises. I saw most of a 4-minute video with some jumping and some ground stuff before it kicked into "buffering" mode (that's Chinese for it stopped), which happened due to heavy internet traffic, I believe. Try it again or go to the troubleshooting section.. Harry I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. I keep falling out the door of the plane. Harry, FB #4143

You would need to be the first out of the plane over uninhabited fields, and the ironing board would need to be small. The ironed garment would need to be tied to it. The iron would probably need to be not hot, for safety considerations. You would need to jettison all these objects prior to deployment, as they would be unwieldly and therefore unsafe. Finally, you would need to go pick up the junk and re-iron or replace the garment, since by now it is laying soiled and machinated by the wind and other events in some farmer's field. Take hobbes4star's advice. Unless you signed onto jumping as your day job (and even then you supposedly did it because you liked it), never let it get to the point where you consistently don't like it. There are few things worse than coming to dislike something or some one that previously gave you so much joy. Since you have obviously been generous with your time, take a step back for time off if it helps, but at least as importantly, for fun jumps, solos if necessary, to enjoy the beauty of the sky and the fun of playing and canopy. You will need to regain the love of the activity itself to avoid a burn-out soon, all over again. At least that's how I see it. That's true. My thinking is heavily influenced by all the people I know that came to the sensible conclusion after their first jump: Skydiving is good.
