My J1 seems to work for free-fly (head-down and sit)and RW as well. If something would actually be better, I don't have experience with all the different containers except for Mirage (was comfortable, only used it for RW video). | I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. This doesn't mean you take a shotgun on the jump and then plug birds in the ass with it while under canopy? I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. I keep falling out the door of the plane. Harry, FB #4143

I have had a similar dream once. Typically, HOWEVER, such as early this morning AGAIN, I am either dirt-diving or hurrying to the DZ, in each case hoping that I make the load or that the approaching clouds don't ruin our day. As to the other jumper's story including the red canopy in the Rockies, my old rig's reserve was pure red, so I am wondering if he could have come late into his own dream, after having had a chop. It comes from a deep-seated desire to not miss a jump when I want to jump. I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. I keep falling out the door of the plane. The Army Accident.. Why?
dreamsville replied to matttrudeau's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Thanks. We have an AWOS (automated weather station) at Morris and I think one at Peru (I only have the Morris, Ill. number). They are on either side of the DZ here. I will look into more points here to get a broader picture. Usually, if there are marginal conditions we just blow it off and stay on the ground. After all Spring is coming?!?!? Does your DZ offer "Discounts"?
dreamsville replied to Craig's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Every time I jump your place on the way to or from Grosse Pointe Farms we seem to get at least 10k regularly. If it doesn't vary frequently, you may still want to consider a block price, especially if you have some people who will commit to it to help with winter cash flow. SDC sold a bunch of 100 jump blocks, partly because we couldn't resist the 2003 $14 lock-in rate for doing so (Otter to at least 13.5 much of the time). There are one or two other block rates that are less than the $20 rack rate, I believe. | I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. Most places seem to re-fuel about every 4 loads or so. Including a safety factor, how much fuel do you generally put in an otter with -27's on average refueling, assuming it's just being used for loads and not longer-distance travel? | I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. How cold is too cold for you
dreamsville replied to rendezvous's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
As one of the people around here who loves jumping so much that he's one of the few on the plane in mid-20's (F) weather, I wear fabric liners from WalMart under summer-weight bike or Neuman gloves. Although my fingers may get a bit cold, it's not serious at all and the layers are thin enough not to interfere with canopy/emergency procedures. Latex liners don't seem to help much and they are harder to put on. Yeah, we jumped again yesterday. Just wear thin ski layers and a closed face helmet and you should be fine. It helps to avoid closing the helmet (if it has a lens release) until just before you go out to minimize fog-up. | I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. The Army Accident.. Why?
dreamsville replied to matttrudeau's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Last week we jumped when the winds were in the mid-teens, but when we landed they were gusting to the mid-20s, just in the space of 20 minutes. Either that, or we didn't take a "wind sample" during the right interval. I've seen significant weather changes occur just during the time it takes to reach altitude. From then on, it's just a question of whether the message gets to the pilot and jumpers. We just do the best we can, although the point about pressure to follow through on a demo jump probably had at least as as much to do with it. | I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. I think that analysis is correct. The extremities are normally the best place for the ProTrack, preferably with it on the outside. I wore mine on my ankle until the Skytronic audible broke, and then I had to move the ProTrack to the helmet (still look at the ground and the wrist unit though, let's never forget). Orientation of a cavity containing the ProTrack can cause distorting pressure changes. I had a graph on one free-fly jump that looked like the one in the attachment, more or less, after I made the shift in unit location. | I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. Yes. George Bush Sr. jumped from the Cross Keys Skyvan, which is probably at Sebastian now. There is a sign painted in the cabin that says "George Bush sat here". With proper passes and planning (even if it means saying that conditions aren't suitable for night jumps at a given time), you shouldn't have people landing out, unless the spot actually was good and someone got scared or disoriented and went in the wrong direction. When I did my last night jumps, we had more than one pass and staged deployment altitudes. | I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. The Real Reason for the Upcoming War in Iraq

Well, my point was that, even for the most opportunistic, the exchange spread versus the political and other economic risk didn't seem to be worth the cost. I put a Maxtor 80 gig external firewire drive (7200rpm) on my old laptop (uses a PC slot card with 6-pin plugs), which then developed an LCD display problem, so I was easily able to switch the existing 15-20 gig of mostly-jump stuff to the new laptop. It edits fast and doesn't drop stuff (machine is Dell 1.7ghz with 512 meg. Yes, get the RAM, it's worth it.). People have been telling me that firewire is at least as fast as USB 2.0. Last point: the Dell 1394 built-in 4-pin outlet is fine for capturing video. However, this particular port on this particular machine drops OUTBOUND frames when writing back OUT TO mini-DV camcorder tape. The software in question is Media Studio Pro 6.5. Using a firewire card instead of the internal port on the Dell 8200 eliminates the outbound frame drop problem. | I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. This would be my concern about making a living from jumping after having done it for fun. It wouldn't be that special candyland to which one "escaped" anymore. Sometime last summer I received an email from Bill Kitchen that there was a site "under contract" in the Chicago area for a wind tunnel. My guess is that the economy has something to do with no "dot" on the map around Chicago now, but some day I hope someone will decide to put one in this region -

What's going on in this picture
dreamsville replied to mattb's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
It reminds me of some people who came to our DZ a few years ago, and one of the days was cloudy. They took a pick-up truck to the runway, attached someone's chest strap to a rope and attempted to haul this person slowly under canopy. 2 others held the ends of the canopy until the parachutist could speed up. He became somewhat airborne, landed on his front the first time and on his butt the second time. They packed it in as the DZO was about to go out and ask them to stop, since it loked unsafe.
