Go to Velcro-less toggles. As the Velcro wears, it can peel off upon opening and release, causing a spin. It's also true that Velcro-less toggles need to be inspected for frayed stitching, but the latter last longer. Harry I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. The issue of what's on the card may go to what ratings you have or whether USPA has revised what they put on it. I have no ratings, just a D license. My renewal card from the last few months has: Member #, Expiration, name, 5th year of membership, D license #. Harry I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. That seems like it minimizes the flying distances for those on the trail planes, but for the pilots... I won't guess. I'm not a pilot, so just write an update sometime when you are more rested. Does this sound like a certain dz.com professor?
dreamsville replied to JamesNahikian's topic in The Bonfire
Very funny. I know this is irrelevant, and should probably be a PM (not "prime minister"), but you never called me back. Flaky. Harry I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. I keep falling out the door of the plane. Harry, FB #4143 -

The 100 may have to be hybrids. It sounds like the 300 get to moving pretty slowly. Alternatively, if you had special suits you could slow the fall rate. It's been done. Too high, too low...need help with flaring
dreamsville replied to dzdiva's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Look straight ahead, rather than down, when flaring. Once you are used to the canopy it will make it easier. Pilots do it when flying. Harry I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. I keep falling out the door of the plane. Harry, FB #4143 -
What would be the best way to approach a headown position?
dreamsville replied to Rookeskydiver's topic in Freeflying
Be careful about launching a headdown if you are not used to it and are by yourself. The advantage of a sit exit for beginners is the establishment of a cross-jump-run heading first. Max Cohn talks about this in his piece. From coaching I have received from the best in the biz, they will tell you the same thing as the above. Max's piece also reminds me that I have not been working on the SLOW TRANSITION bit enough (thanks!). At my stage, when I hurry it my transitions are almost always less steady. How much does it REALLY cost to SKYDIVE?
dreamsville replied to chriswelker's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I have an idea how much it's cost me, and I even have an account in Quicken where the gear, jumps, and gas to the DZ's go. I'll tell y'all something else: I don't have the nerve to hit the button that runs a total. The exact number lives in fuzzy obscurity while the rest of me enjoys the world's most rewarding and best sport with the coolest people. One piece of advice: buy good used gear whenever possible as long as you can verify its airworthiness. You can save $1,000s over time and still be safe, although not necessarily color-coordinated. Thanks to "Crazy" and "Mikkif", I have now read their posts and no mystery remains. There is the XMAS party Saturday, I recall. We always seem to stray on these threads, oh well. At one time I was able to do this calculation (had to do it to get through grad school), but now find myself needing an explanation. Perhaps you could elaborate briefly on your calculations, even as they may be up setting (is that a pun?) the record at this moment. BTW, we will be jumping that little 182 again this weekend. Most likely I was on the same 182 load. The 182 gets the job done, but 182s are such bug smashers when compared to the usual Super Otters. Harry I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. I keep falling out the door of the plane. Harry, FB #4143

legal age for starting skydiving in USA
dreamsville replied to Unutsch's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
If it's your own dropzone and your family isn't going to have an internal lawsuit, who cares anyway? It's mostly a legal issue in those special cases, same as Rook Nelson and his dad Roger. Let 'im jump if he's able and there's a special opportunity like this. Harry I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. I keep falling out the door of the plane. Day 3....the real beginning
dreamsville replied to diverdriver's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Yes, Chris, I am impressed. All the positive vibes and prayers I can muster go with you and the others. I know the 300-way will be a raging topic at the SDC XMAS party, which I am guessing you won't be attending. Harry I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. I'm really impressed by all the logistical issues, not having done anything greater than 35 ways. I'd also like to say that I hope to some day jump with the moderators that have kept us posted on this stuff. If you're ever at Skydive Chicago . . . Say hello to Luther Kurtz for Harry someday if he's still at San Diego. Harry Higbie I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. I second what everyone says about L&B's products and their service. Since I still had an older Skytronic Pro in my helmet, I continue to use it as my audible and have a custom ankle strap to house the Pro-Track, since the extremeties are best for accurate readings. No, I can't hear it when it's down there, but it's great for complete jump history for your computer (if you have one). Otherwise, there is still a bunch of detail. First rig on AFP 14 (about jump 18 or so), used. Just sold it (bought another used one a few months ago), and have a container waiting for canopies and AAD so I will again have a second system. I carry mine on the plane in a hard-sided roller bag, the 9x14x22 kind. This last weekend I had no problem with United. Checking it also has seemed to work. After jumping Sebastian yesterday, I fortunately remembered to turn off the AAD. Harry I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. Did anyone else have any experience with "air pockets" in the area? I have experienced this in very limited form, but this one sounds pretty bad (6o feet). I'd expect that others nearby would have noticed shaky wind conditions. Harry I don't drink during the day, so I don't know what it is about this airline. I keep falling out the door of the plane.
