  2. no, no, no. you've got it all wrong. the TUNNEL is the crack house. the flying....well, now. THAT is the crack. if you guys are going 1/2 hr each, at least split it into (2) 1/2-hour blocks of time. you'll take turns in there and get 15 minutes each. just do that twice with (as ari said) at least an hour in between bookings. ex. 1pm-1:30pm...........you and your buddy. 1:30pm -2pm..........crack heads 2pm-2:30pm..........other crack heads 2:30-3pm...............you and your buddy again. 3pm-3:30pm...........you and your buddy are now selling your first born and/or selling platelets to get more time. you also ask if the tunnel is hiring. you will be charged the 1/2 hour rates, so don't expect to go in and pay for 60 minutes worth of time and be able to divide that up, because you can't. but flying an hour to save a few bucks will be pushing it for wasting some money. i think you get far more by having time to take a quick break and debrief each flight as you do it. also, not sure if perris does this as well (i'm guessing they do), but you're not limited to the 2-minute rotations, although i would advise you to do so. :) you can do 2.5 minutes if you want...which is probably what you and your friend will get to even out the rotations. 6 rotations each. you could kick your friends ass and take the rest of his time, too. your call.... enjoy the tunnel and be nice to the instructors out there. going in with the "i'm a skydiver. i know what i'm doing" attitude sucks. i wish i had a dollar for every person that came in and said that to me. "i skydive. i don't need the class." uh huh. those are the ones that you laugh at when you get to see them fly. go figure. let the instructors help you. they are skydivers too and that's what they do....AND they're nice folks to boot. hell, buy 'em all a beer for helping you. pay it forward... enjoy, arlo
  3. or what. i think it's a bad ass shot of kaz getting ready to do some swooping at the hills. tony is an outstanding photographer and i'm glad he got the cover shot and i'm glad kaz got the spotlight. chicas rock. arlo
  4. john, those pics are from section 4, eh? i've rafted the chattooga on many occasions. having the boats tow you to the ramp in the tugaloo helps after a long day of paddling. :) andrea, there's a town called seneca that you probably drove thru to get the the falls and to the chattooga. that's where i lived before moving to FL. the scenery up there is phenomenal and that is one of the things i miss most. good for you for getting to play around in it. it truly is beautiful.... arlo

  7. BREAST CANCER ON RISE IN U.S. MEN link to news WASHINGTON (Reuters) -- Male breast cancer is on the rise in the United States -- bad news for men and their doctors, who do not even know to look for it, researchers reported Monday. Although the disease remains extremely rare -- just 1,600 cases are predicted for 2004 -- the 25 percent increase in 25 years is worrying, said Dr. Sharon Giordano of the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, who led the study. "I don't think anybody had specifically looked to see if male breast cancer had been increasing over time, because it is so rare," Giordano said in a telephone interview. "I was surprised to find that it was increasing, although in retrospect I should have known. We have seen a huge increase in breast cancer in woman, as well." No one knows why, added Giordano, a specialist in breast cancer. In both sexes breast cancer is related to the hormone estrogen, so obesity could be a factor. Fat cells produce estrogen. So could environmental chemicals, or changes in lifestyle. Giordano stresses that a great deal more study is needed but noted, "Anecdotally, the male patients I am seeing and treating haven't been heavy and overweight." Even with the increase, male breast cancer represents just 0.6 percent of all breast cancers and less than 1 percent of all malignancies in men, Giordano's team reports in the July issue of the journal Cancer, published online this week. Her team analyzed data from the National Cancer Institute's Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results 1973 to 1998 database, which represents about 14 percent of the U.S. population. They found the incidence of male breast cancer rose from 0.86 per 100,000 men in 1973 to 1.08 per 100,000 men in 1998. "While, it's not as high of an increase in cases as that in women, men should be alert to the possibility that the disease could affect them," Giordano said. They looked specifically at 2,524 cases of male breast cancer and 380,856 cases of female breast cancer over the 25 years. Compared to female patients, men with breast cancer were older when diagnosed, age 67 for men versus 62 for the average woman, and were more likely to have advanced disease that had spread. "Overall, if you look at raw numbers it looks worse but it really reflects the fact that it is diagnosed at later stages, and when men are older. If you look at it look at stage by stage it is the same," Giordano added. "It's perhaps ironic that tumors in men are easier to feel than they are in women, yet the disease is being discovered at a later stage in men than in women." One reason is that men and their doctors may assume they are experiencing a common and benign condition called gynecomastia, or enlargement of the breasts, Giordano said. Breast cancer overall will affect more than 200,000 Americans this year and will kill 40,000, the American Cancer Society says.

  12. yeah, but that wouldn't be too cool to do. if it wasn't lost due to a broken bracket, i wouldn't ask them for a new one. l&b provide outstanding customer service and asking them for a new one when it wasn't their fault just costs them money. this may, in turn, cause them to whittle down the customer service in the long run...which wouldn't be a good thing. anyway, sorry you lost your audible. either replacement would be a good choice.
  13. bird retired...sold his stuff. he's getting to spend more time with his kids now and i'm sure he's loving that. i still got to see him a couple weekends back at zhills hanging out, though. bird's a good man....
