  1. Also there are some DZ's choose to just have a weight limit, even though the lightest TM may be able to take someone their size, to make it under the limit of the canopy, they set a limit and seldom change. A local DZ here in Cali sets it weight limit at 500lbs, total weight, but never takes any tandems over 215lbs up beyond 6000ft. The intent for exiting at 6000ft is to never take the tandem to terminal. Be safe. Ed www.WestCoastWingsuits.com www.PrecisionSkydiving.com

  3. It might be a good idea for you guys to call ahead of time and find out the DZ's weight limit, before you head all the way there and find they wont jump you. Be safe. Ed www.WestCoastWingsuits.com www.PrecisionSkydiving.com

  8. Well Tim, if you have been following this thread you clearly see my first responce was: "If skydiving doesn't take ALL of your thoughts, during the ride up in the plane, during freefall, and under canopy, until you are safely in the hanger and done packing. Then you aren't being safe enough for anyone, including yourself." That in no way is "ripping a guy to shreds at 28 jumps because he asked a question." It's just a simple fact. Be safe. 9. True. Though the non group member DZ I jump at now, which is 45mins from my home, and after working for a group member DZ that is 12mins from my home for several years in the past, I teach my private students under the USPA guidelines as a USPA rated Instructor. And you are also correct by saying the non group members student gear is far superior. Be safe. Ed www.WestCoastWingsuits.com www.PrecisionSkydiving.com
  10. To repeat what Dave said , "Ensure your instructors are USPA rated." Choosing a drop zone just because it's a Group Member isn't always going to make you "safer" IMO. Choose a DZ that has great Instructors , get references, and also ask about the student gear they use. Do not be affraid to ask Instructors to show you their membership card that verifies they are rated Instructors in the progression you choose to take also. Be safe. 12. Though I personally think the whole USPA GM program is just for advertising, many people think it will make them safer. Any drop zone, whether it has a Group Membership or NOT, is only going to be as safe as THEY make it. I have seen blatant BSR violations at both GM drop zones and non GM dz's. If the DZ, as a group member, isn't going to abide by the USPA BSR's, then their membership should be revoked. Many skydiver only join USPA because they want to jump at any DZ they wish to, and alot are group members, that require you to be a member of USPA. So maybe, by revoking the skydivers membership for life, it may make anyone else thinking of doing Instructor jumps, when not rated for them, think twice before doing them, as it will only limit what DZ's they can jump at. Be safe. Ed ris It will possibly stop other DZ's from letting this happen www.WestCoastWingsuits.com www.PrecisionSkydiving.com
  13. When I told a RD about this exact scenario, her reponse was, "What do you want me to do, take away a rating he doesn't have?" USPA picks and chooses if and when they do anything about BSR violations. Derek IMO, A USPA GM drop zone that has skydivers doing this, and are caught doing this, should have their GM revoked and the skydiver should be banned from USPA for life. Be safe. 14. That's awesome Gareth. Your truly moving into the future these day by moving from your Paradactyal to the 252 Accuracy Cloud! Be cafeful landing if you have to ever use that PD126 though! Be safe. Ed www.WestCoastWingsuits.com www.PrecisionSkydiving.com
  15. Great! Congrats to the new birds!
  16. I think Skydann explained it good by saying, "tandem progression allows me to gauge the students reaction to freefall environment, his ability to pull the ripcord, allows me to teach and ensure that the student understands the canopy checks, controls and landing priorities." I'll also add. It gives me an idea of what their body position will be like in freefall, while attached to me, so I can give them corrections during freefall to correct it. Students seem to be more relaxed knowing they have an Instructor that close to them, knowing we are going to correct anything thats wrong, and also be able to speak to them under canopy giving them minor corrections if needed. Please feel free to PM me if you'd like a more indepth detail of my private program.
  17. NO NO NO! It cuts the Cypres closing loop that runs through the cutter! Honestly Dude, your best bet is to go speak with a RIGGER at your local DZ and stop relying on the internet for this information.
  18. 4 layers John? So how did the auto pilot on the S1 work? BTW, here's a pic of the suit being flown in alittle warmer weather. Keepin' it safe! Ed www.WestCoastWingsuits.com www.PrecisionSkydiving.com

  22. They should be mostly on the same level, but some tend to fly the slots alittle high. Being on level is best because if you get some moving into their slot in front of you, it leaves you in the burble which will quickly drop you out of the formation. Or if someone flying next to you washes alittle you may get pulled into their burble, which looks like whats happening in the 2nd pic. Keepin' it safe! 23. Don't be affraid to ask your rigger what color it is BEFORE you need to use it. Just knowing will help you make a faster decision should you have a premature opening. Hopefully it's not the same color as your main? TOTAL knowlegde of what your jumping, before you step out of an airplane, always leaves you a better chance of getting to the ground safely.
