Any suggestions for a good Tandem Exit from a cessna 182 or 206?
bodypilot1 replied to 321seeya's topic in Instructors
1- Go out the door that is open. 2- Watch your handles as you exit and make sure seat belts are OUT OF THE WAY before you exit.. 3- Make sure your stable before throwing the drogue. Practice your exit on the ground before the day starts. What works for some, may not work for others. Keepin' it safe! Ed www.WestCoastWingsuits.com www.PrecisionSkydiving.com -
From Sunnyvale, CA to DZ without car?
bodypilot1 replied to thecap's topic in Events & Places to Jump
Depending on how many jumps your planning on making, you could probably rent a car and drive to Lodi, jump your ass off, and spend less money. Hollister= $19 jumps from KingAir and 20min bus ride back to DZ from landing area after every jump. Lodi= $15 jumps from Otter with landing area next to hanger. PM me if you need anymore info. Newly rated AFFI - how long before you did a single JM AFF dive?
bodypilot1 replied to altichick's topic in Instructors
Thats great. Mark Having seen many newly rated AFFI's over the years I have seen a decline in air skills in jumpers given their rating. I do have several cases where my obsevations are, the AFFI was passed through the course because they had satisfactory teaching skills but lacked the ability to do a "real life" AFF jump, and IMO, only to be let loose to the beginning skydiver to refine their air skills. Truely an AFFI get's more seasoned after doing a few hundered AFF jumps, but in the cases I have witnessed, the jumpers should never have been given the rating IMO. You were a student of mine. I'm sure even during your student jumps you were thinking you wanted to become and Instructor and focused your air skills on becoming one. Good for you. -
These days most DZ's have GPS and dont teach much in the way of spotting, as we did years ago. Mostly bigger DZ's have the pilots do the spotting with the GPS, and all that is required by the jumpers is to stick their heads out the door and look for traffic. Some smaller DZ's that let the jumpers spot, having them give heading corrections to the pilot. I always thought it was a fun thing to do and wish more jumpers had the chance to learn it. Newly rated AFFI - how long before you did a single JM AFF dive?
bodypilot1 replied to altichick's topic in Instructors
My first jump as an AFFI was a level 4 release dive with a guy 230lbs out of a C182 from 10,000AGL. IMO, a skydiver that have been given their AFFI rating should be able to handle anything they are given. Proving this to the AFFI/E is what should happen during the course, and if not, they don't deserve being given the rating. This may sound abit harsh, but it's not a rating to taken lightly, and carries a BIG responsibility. Keepin' it safe! Ed www.WestCoastWingsuits.com www.PrecisionSkydiving.com -
FAR's and wingsuit landing w/o a parachute?
bodypilot1 replied to linestretch's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I think the right landing place needs to be picked also should this be attempted. The landing spot should be very close to a hospital or some open field where a few shovels are handy. Keepin' it safe! Ed www.WestCoastWingsuits.com www.PrecisionSkydiving.com -
Tell your friend should he ever have to cutaway a bag lock that I'll buy his unusable canopy from him for $10.... Keepin' it safe! Ed www.WestCoastWingsuits.com www.PrecisionSkydiving.com

Both.... At his level he needs to be focused on what he's doing to stay safe and not be a danger to others under canopy, from being distracted by the music. The eye's dont see everything, but the ears may hear someone yelling at you when you turn into them under canopy. Also, depending on the discipline he's doing, there is alot of focus needed on the ride up to mentally go over the dirt dive. I have seen more then a few jumpers that talk all the way up to altitude only to brainlock or fly to the wrong slot, or forget where the key is coming from for the next point, then get on the ground and wonder what happened...... I agree. If skydiving doesn't take ALL of your thoughts, during the ride up in the plane, during freefall, and under canopy, until you are safely in the hanger and done packing. Them you aren't being safe enough for anyone, including yourself. Music is cool in the hanger when packing, but anything else is a distraction....... Keepin' it safe! Ed www.WestCoastWingsuits.com www.PrecisionSkydiving.com

Not if the packer leaves all the gravel in it from the last looser that jumped it! Funny how it always hits you on the top of the helmet after falling out of the nose of the canopy. Some idiots need to learn how to pick up a canopy.... Keepin' it safe! Ed www.WestCoastWingsuits.com www.PrecisionSkydiving.com

Ditto.

There should be no issue on a RW jump. IMO, the PVC isn't good to use for RW in some cases, as it presents an easy finger snag while doing fast moves or tight vertical moves that can lead to a team member deploying you accidently (spoken from experience), and if your camera flyer is flying tight over the top it can be deadly.
