“Give strong drink unto him that is ready to perish, and wine unto those that be of heavy hearts. Let him drink, and forget his poverty, and remember his misery no more (Proverbs 31:06-07). Kinda says it all (i´m drinking wine) take care, space

I have a 4 yr old that I am armchair quarterbacking somewhat. But actually my experience comes from being a child and retaining my childlike characteristics for many years. I am a veteran in these aspects. Should one not start by regressing to the point where communication failed, Find a better way to communicate the theme? What is that old adage, If the student didn´t learn, then the teacher didn´t teach? At which level does one stop at? Shall one continue until the point is made, over a traumatized child? It has happened many times that the parent has allowed the child to up the level to one that is not acceptable by society´s standard (ie “child shaking”). Do you mean that “all attempts that one feels like taking”? Different strategies are as infinite as the Universe, if one strategy dosn´t work, that means infinite – 1 and that = infinity. Cooperation seems to be my tool for discipline. I think it´s a common response to an out of control parent. Granted that today´s society requires that parents spend more time away from their children (or vice versa) than with, I can see that it is difficult to maintain a high level of communication with the child whilst maintaining a job away from the household Of course not, That theme is so ironic. A child is going to be a child, and is going to do things learned from/through the parents that is forbidden to them. This is part of growing. Better to give them the definitions of the words and the meanings it amplifies when they use it in reference to something and explain one´s own reason to violate this taboo logically (without lying). The child will play games to explore the parents´ limits. It is up to the parent´s (IMHO) to not play the game but rather understand the game and give the child what answer the child is searching for. As I sit here and write this, I am munching on pickled habenero peppers (with salami) only cause the taste is really good. take care and hit back with your opinion please, this is insightful. space

I am thinking more along the lines of "communication", rather than physical or mental abuse. IMHO, resorting to these tactics is an indication that communication has broken down. What´s your opinion? Take care, space

That´s the one, I did it in `88. (waiting for applause). The Brahma bull was a bit scary though. Early morning Sunshine laid the bull back enough to let me pass with a red canopy. take care, space

This is definitely worse than what you can see. It aint a problem, My stepfather just lucked out that he died before I could make it back to torture him like he did me. I would have done the same to him. But Scotch Bonnet peppers are much more tasty than tabasco. take care space

You would ruin your childs culinary tastes with tabasco? The kids will learn to like it ya know. Iffin i was there I´d bite ya take care, space

Yo Zenister, I was way up in the hierarchy of diving off rope swings as a kid. please don´t diss this in a public forum because this would be a personal attack and you may be banned by the mods. Hahahahahehehehe. As far as I know, Bob Neely (RIP #46) was the first to bring serious acrobatics in to BASE. We jumped from a cliff near Muskogee, Ok at the “last dance nationals”. Lake “Ten-killer” if my memory is correct. It was a swimsuit jump, he did a layout/ twist and climbed back up after and declared “it is 24 ft”. He was more than good, I think I remember heartell that he was a state trampoline champ when he was in school. He was doing swinging gymnastic exits though the bars of antennas. He is a great one. Take care friend, space

He was referring to the "perfect zone", where only alt and method of deployment were the variables. But ya did good by bringing up your point, after all this is a mostly skydiver site, thanks, take care, space

You should ask The SBK! At least one of them who is a powerful member took a course. As for Statisics, there is nothing to compare it to as it was basically a first of it´s kind thingy. As for statistics, it is very difficult to determine the ratio of say Sabre/Stilletto jumpers that were convinced to jump BASE gear, probaly saving there lives, compared to those who did every thing right and still died because one only hears of the ones who died and not the ones who lived. Not all need instruction. But Death is a sure way to figure it out is it not? take care, space

Umm, he dissed us first with his "stinkin´" remark IMHO. I think as an individual one needs to be a little more respectful of the community when coming here to asking legitimate questions. Check your baggage at the door. take care, space

In a nutshell, You are paying to learn how not to die while having fun. If this aspect is not so important to you then maybe you should not partake in a FJC. You get exactly what you pay for. How much would you pay to learn how not to make deadly mistakes? When one pays for a FJC one is paying for the chance to learn from the professionals in the sport. There are not so many available students to support these professionals, so the cost reflects it. They need an income also. AFAIK, cost has never deterred anyone from anything that they heartily wanted to do. For me, BASE jumping has proved that "impossible" is only an opinion. That in itself is priceless. take care, space
-
Umm, maybe some consider it an insult when you call it a stinkin´ jump. What 813 and Nick D said has a lot of weight. 813 asks a valid question. Nick D makes some valid points. No one owes you anything. ya gotta earn it. It is perfectly acceptable to go out and repioneer the sport on your own. To learn from your own mistakes instead of others. I´ve known persons that did it and never spent another unit of currency. They probaly saved millions. But the cost of saving that FJC money cost them dearly. If the cost of a FJC seems prohibitive to you then it (FJC) probaly is working as it is designed to. Assess your motives. take care, space

I disagree with holding the cap or apex, lightly or otherwise. The s-folded-under-exiting-bridle is spot on. The reason why is that the assister can have a redundant system if one holds the meshed similar to the first step of a "Mushroom pack" and then folds the mesh over whereby both parts are under exiting the hand. This is the part that is reinforced to take the load and one can finish opening the sequence in case of unexpected snatch force (which it always is for first time assisters). In the fotos, If one gets the bridle jerked out of the hand before container opening. things are not so recoverable with a flismy 2 finger grip or a good grip on the PC apex. Think redundantcy. 2 chances for the assister to do the job instead of one. Take care, space

The person you refer to tried to paraglide an Evolution 160 of the top. The canopy was inflated, it was just in a dive and he was unable to recover before he bounced on the ground and then into the fence. Disclaimer, i had nothing to do with the incident other than calling 911. I bagged BG off a 120ft water tower in La. 1990. It wasn´t a prob. he had no option other than to land downwind. take care, space

Honor is a strong word for a poach doncha think, to the mangement? The grand effort of Robin Heid (paperwork meister) supplemented by his crew was AFAIK the one who got it opened. My surmise was dissed by others also. So I humbly retract it and buy the next round. Let me know when. Take care and keep up the good work, all of you!! space

Nick, I´ve never bucked for position. so it´s cool with me. Nothing implied at all. i jes been being me. Thanks for bringin up some good stuff! take care, space

I´m not judgemental on your opinion of what you think mainstreaming is. It is just not the same opinion it seems. I feel that FB´s publicity conjures an image brought on by the J Geils song " Angel was a centerfold", this is mainstream to me (the sport being the angel on this case). I feel that 90 jumpers on a once secret site shared by you and your BASE partner, at one time is mainstream. It´s my feeling. I feel that as you said that one´s who don´t do this are mainstreaming the sport. Understandably it can be Baloney to you, but not I. I just hooked up my canopy to a different harness. One has not the clairvoyancy to determine if any act is right or wrong AFAIK. I would tend to disagree as this is not my opinion. Tracking, acrobatic and rigging skills are well advanced than only 5 yrs ago. almost doubled in just the last ten years. that is not stifling IMHO. take care, space
