This is upsetting ~ thought it was important that I pass it along... Check your driver's license... Now you can see anyone's Driver's License on the Internet, including your own ! I just searched for mine and there it was...picture and all ! Thanks Homeland Security! Privacy, where is our right to it? I definitely removed mine, I suggest you all do the same. Go to the website and check it out. Just enter your Name, City and State to see if yours is on file. After your license comes on the screen, click the box marked "Please Remove". This will remove it from public viewing, but not from law enforcement. http://www.license.shorturl.com/ take care, and thanks for the tip Nicole 33. space

My apologies To Sangiro, I forgot that it was in the subject line I replied to. And with some more incoming info it seems this place is definitely hot. take care, space

Ummm... you´re confusing me now. Did you mean instant canopy by just adding water? Or did you mean "if the locking stows are loose, snatch force can jerk the bag off the canopy and instant parachute."?. Are"instant parachute" and "hard opening" different terms meaning the same thing? let me know, I think we just have different terminology but we speak of the same think. take care, space

search for "line dump" returned 464 results in 0.444s. Here is an easy table top test: 1.open a packed rig but keep the bag at the container. 2. unstow the lines from the locking stows holding the bag closed and stuff them back in the container tray. 3. lift the opened deployment bag via the bridle attachment point above your head and watch as the canopy unfolds, spreads out some and slider falls down the lines. 4. place it back in the bag with out squeezing any air out. 1. is to simulate deployment sequence after PC deployment and container opening. 2. is to simulate "line dump", 3. is to simulate canopy extraction before line stretch in a line dump scenario and it's effect on the positions of the slider and canopy. 4. is to show that the canopy has inflated somewhat. Maybe expanded would be a better word. The air would be hitting an expanded canopy which has more surface area exposed and the slider has fallen out of position more than likely down the lines. Hope this helps. Reserves that are free bagged have 2 locking stows also. But the instructions the rigger follows ie 1.5" stows, bungee safety stow dimensioned for that particular bag is designed to prevent this from happening. (It has happened on reserve packs). Quite unlike the environment the skydiver packs in. elongated rubber bands or tube stows or even the wrong type with not enough holding power can very easily lead to this situation causing hard openings. I speculate that because he has a new D bag that has different stow values for the locking stows, this is the source of his hard openings because of the reasons of line dump. But note: I think we have a miscommunication on what is inflation. Maybe expansion is a better word. My bad. A normal extraction speed of 30 to 50 fps will induce that amount of air passing around the canopy distorting it much more than the table top test. think about it. take care, space

Most definitely, The D bag is meant to contain the canopy until line stretch. If it does not do this, then, the canopy can actually start inflating before line stretch is achieved and the resulting opening shock can be strong enough to do damage to jumper and gear. It´s likely that the stow bands are too loose on the newly installed D bag and you are getting out of sequence openings. Search for terms like "line dump" or "inertial bag strip". PD had some good reading on this. take care, space

Disregarding the course I did in Norway, my normal course could and has started after the jumper got the "A" license equivalent and could take up my program of packing, rigging and jumping meeting my TLO's. IMHO, The earlier in their career that you can get them working on the skills that they need for BASE, the sooner they will be ready. An 80 jump skydiver with 60 jumps dedicated to learning BASE skills and achieving those skills will be way ahead of the curve than the 1000r who decides that he would like try BASE to see if he likes it. So in answer to to your question I would say the minimum experience that I would accept in my normal course would be to have met all of my criteria of packing, rigging, (balloon) exits and canopy control TLO's regardless of the amount of jumps they have. It makes a huge difference if they learned to skydive only so they could proggress to BASE. take care, space

Then its quite clear that it had nothing to do with the way you packed the PC. That it happened after the canopy was fully extracted from the bag. This can happen more easily if you had a squirrelly opening (Stalling, snivelling) or released your toggles before the canopy was flying well. It is also possible that it was done when you picked it up. Take care, space

Umm... How tight was the knot? A very tight knot would indicate something very different to a loose one or a medium one. food for thought. take care, space

So when are you guys gonna start posting pics of skydiving fatality scenes? Just wondering. take care, space

I like your style, It brings to mind an answer to a question. It goes like this. Adult to kid: "What do you want to be when you grow up?", Kid: " BASE jumper!", Adult: "Not possible, One can grow up or be a BASE jumper. not both". Take care, space

Hellllooo! The toggle will get slingshotted over slider unless you feed it thru, then, you can see if the toggles can clear the grommets. Hello? is any body listening?. have fun, last post on this one topic. take care, space
-
A functionality test will explain this to you. Tie down your slider and then pull the toggle thru the slider grommet while acting like a line over release mod in action. A good BASE toggle has an extra long stowage area IMHO. This makes a lopsided T with the base of the T being the steering line. What I tried was to take a basic long nose toggle and finger trap the the line tightly around the lowerside of the toggle instead of the grommet. Folding the toggle webbing like a riser end for a streamlined effect. The problems which I encountered with this is the distance below the slider grommet and the angle that the toggle is released. The toggle slingshots and tends to wrap over the slider hindering clearance unless one actually feeds the toggle to the slider grommet and then lets go. Which is difficult if the rear slider groms are not tied down to the riser tops which I do not recommend (because this is old school way). Have fun, be careful, hope this helps, take care, space

Hi Billy, I stand by Canuck. He is IMHO spot on. Do you realize how much of the people think we as jumpers are stupid. Your posting annoys me. Iffin it was your Bro, and someone posted the fotos on the net, I hope you'd be pissed. Minus 10 points for your short sightedness. take care, space -
