This is the best info for the “Battery guy” IMHO. The scary thing is as I mention before is that (putting it all over the packing area and other people’s packing mats and this was even worse.). If someone dumped their rig on some acid spillage……He does need some slack though because he didn’t know and had not seen the damage it can do. I will try to get the photo of the harness damage. Which brings up the point of “Who is your rigger for your BASE gear? You need a rigger to inspect your gear if you do not know about harness designs and failures, wear points on the entire sytem that could compromise the integrity of your one canopy rig. take care, space

Can I have some input on this from you guys and girls on your feelings about this that I posted in the BASE forum? Thanks, space crosspost

1st the good stuff: A really nice weekend. 35 - 40 jumpers. My guess would be that 200 jumps were made Hannes, flew over the LZ at 500m with a wingsuit. Most were very competent jumpers. Lots of great jumps! The Not so good stuff: 3 were not competent, they were in a group of 3, from the same country with same color canopies (You know who you are)that IMHO they should go back to the DZ and learn how to fly canopies and land into the wind. All 3 missed the the main LZ and were dealing with power lines and highway and trees.but escaped without injuries luckily. A few jumpers jumped in the “Ora”wind (“Ora” is a low altitude wind that starts around 11:30am and lasts until just before sunset at 19:45 and reaches 8-10 meters per sec almost every freakin day this time of year) One took a tree landing, one ankle tweaked at the Heli LZ. And a crash and burn crosswinder landing. Get a clue guys. My biggest concern was the guy using a car battery for a packing weight. At first I was concerned about his rig but now I realize that he was putting it all over the packing area and other peoples packing mats and this was even worse. After I spoke to him he used it as a place to stow his packing clamps instead of a packing weight. Other notes: To the jumper that gave me the taxi fare for the Norwegians, It was delivered and I should tell you their thanks. We passed on the info about not jumping at LB (thanks to Wayne) as some jumpers planned on going there. In the end, all was good. Take care, Space Ora wind search

No, no, no, no,Never ever ever!! At first I was concerned about his rig but now I realize that he was putting it all over the packing area and other peoples packing mats and this was even worse. After I spoke to him, he used it as a place to stow his packing clamps(NO) instead of a packing weight. He had 40 pack jobs using this car battery as a weight. Can we get some input from others on why you should not do this so the guy realizes that I was only trying to help and not being a jerk. I’ve seen harnesses eaten through. Thanks in advance, Take care, space

“You are being too hard on me, I really don't need the prophetic rundown like we give all the newbies on this forum.” I really don’t think that I am giving you the the rundown. I don’t think that is something that I do that I am aware of. I think I am an anti rundown type of guy. “The 8 factors... none of your goddam business.” You mentioned it so therefore it is our business if we/I desire to help you. And you put the number 8 there. Dang, you keep track of that crap? “I didn't hear word one from you when I was trying to get into base... I don't need to hear it from you while getting out.” I am fairly certain that you did. Maybe indirectly. ”Long story short, my former employer fucked me pretty hard” You too? Dang, I thought I was the only one that this happened to. “I can't afford to hop outta them planes for a while,” So what does this have to do with BASE? This is the forum you posted in. Volunteer your time to the DZ it it shouldn’t be a prob. “I've got a wing, and I'd like to fly it, if I can get a harness that'll work for a little while ( i.e. I don't need a caccoon, I don't need "uber-comfort"... I just need to be properly suspended)” Then why did you not say this in the first place instead of what you posted? Do you want a harness that will work for say 50/100/200 flights give or take plus/minus 5 flights in memory of your friend?? Do you mean you want a sympathy Harness? I can get you one but IMHO you should check out your motivation as to why you posted your post in that genre’ before I do . - “then "yay for me". I get to paraglide for little more than gas dough.” If that is your comparison………… “Lighten the fuck up. It's a very simple question/favor. If you can help, great. If you can't, save it Freud.” Which do you want? Me to lighten up or help? They are mutually exclusive. Tell me your dream and I can help you achieve it. This isn't that tough. In some ways I feel guilty for pickin at your wounds. Even my wife gave me sheet. But in the end I only want to help you and others and in this way I feel justified. No malice intended from me, but you should really decide which fork you take. Strive for your dreams or slide into mediocrity. Cash is never a barrier. take care, space

You said, “A cheap harness, just to get the thing to kite, and maybe a short flight. If you've got an old one I can borrow/buy/rent, please let me know.” I said “cheap old harness?” deriving this from your above text. WhiskyTangoFoxtrotUtah!!! Ok, maybe I am being too hard on you. Tells us about the 8 factors and maybe we can help. I am a paraglider equipment tech and you sound just like a guy tryinta save a buck where it is most needed. Why do you have a first class climbing harness? Apply the same logic already! Geesh! Okay, There is a way you “can save a few bucks”! Die by cheap old harness failure. That could save you megabucks. Just think, no more taxes! Cost of living? Gone!Save them bucks for the otherside”! Take care, space

If you had said "because of the loss of a friend", I would say that it´s a waste of time since your heart wasn´t into flying enough. But since you didn´t, I won´t. Looking for a cheap old harness? Why on earth would you want that? Is your life worth that little? Take care, space

From skillscamp@freeflytrainingcenter.com supposedly. Be aware. I can't believe that they would (if they really exist) send a .pif file. I didn't open it. take care, space -

Thanks! I have a crappy clip that I recorded off a TV with my digicamera (4.5Mb) of one of my Students, Peter the Rocket man testing a new set up. I could send it out to ya if you really want to see how low you can go. Let me know, take care, space

I gotta give you crap. PM means "private message". I challenge you to justify your publicizing a private message. The guy is totally frank and asks some very valid questions for a wannabe. He could have just posted on board and get a ripping but YOU were the one he chose. You sold him out. What you did was CRAP! CRAP!!. Take care, space

That is twice you have misspelled Sharpchuter. Not trying to be critical, but you should consider carefully editing and spellchecking your statements before posting. Slop in one area of life is frequently interpreted as propagating to other areas of life, and rigging and canopy evaluation are not areas where this is acceptable. Perception of an extreme attention to detail and the relentless pursuit of perfection are required in order to gain the hearts, minds, and trust of the fixed object community. (Thanks for that nugget 460!!) take care, space

You sound quite non chalant about it and obviously have not done any research about it. Let me know how it goes. take care, space

360ft is not for practicing IMO. It is for performing. "Loosing" your bottle is the right thing. Try some slider up up/trackability jumps for practice. That being said... Never pace your steps for a true running exit. It puts your attention directly on foot placement which will more than likely cause one to go head down because of your 20 pound head is in front of the body. Just run until you know that you can leap past the edge, focusing on the vector you wish to take Trying to short step so you can have your last step on or very near the edge will decelerate your lower body and your upper body will rotate fwd. Some degree of sucking up the knees to the counter the rotation of your head down will be needed. The physics of running deem that you are falling head first and your feet must compensate to keep you at that inclination. Though running exits are one of my favs, They are very difficult for me to nail non rotationally. I've not looped one but I have been vertical head high and low once or twice out of maybe 60 running exits and have nailed the absolute IMO non rotational once or twice. I hope this helps. take care, space

Fatalities, leaving a jumper behind, and the Pact.
base283 replied to Anvilbrother's topic in Archive
I think that as a jumper one has the responsibility to respect whatever pact was made if you jump with them. Or disagree with it and not jump with them. I'm sure it's not all cut and dried as this but It's your duty to accept or reject the pact. I hope that everyone gets what they need from this incident. And as much as I hate to see the family suffer, a man's word is his salvation. I would die a very lesser man to not honor my word to a friend who died or lived. I would be torn, But I would have to respect my BASE Bro's pact if I did accept it. Going to jail or burning a site would not matter. Only keeping my word that he trusted me with would be important. Know the pact. and play or not accordingly. my 2 cents. take care, space -
My bad. I substituted the word “linetwists” for “risers are crossed”. A “deployment 180” is indeed where the canopy turns or twists as it moves to line stretch before reaching bottom skin inflation (most likely IMHO due to an APC because the jumper can't turn at that rate of speed). As opposed to a “flying 180”, where, due to the jumper being in a a shoulder low or leg out causes the canopy to turn after the bottom skin inflation due to an asymmetrical loading of the harness. Hope this is clearer, Take care, space
-
If one has an 180° with linetwists this is a "Deployment 180". More than likely due to an asymetrical PC. take care, space

I think you need to reread. It would be a PCIT, with container lock or without. A PCIT is exactly what it says. The PCIT is independent of whether or not the pin is pulled or not according to the quote you stated. And are you (forgive me) so daft to not know that they are writing about throw outs? You suck for taking such a political view to impose your very own definition defying the exact meaning of the term PCIT to justify (maybe?) you jumping a pull out. With great knowledge comes great responsibility. Deal with it. I, Mr. nobody, DISAGREES. Roger, apparently PCIT #1 DISAGREES. How would you explain the scenario where the jumper left the pullup cord in a pullout system that locked the container. See, you are wrong wrong wrong wrong! So what TLA (Three Letter Abbreviation) does BSR stand for? Is it not a recommendation? For throw outs? Look what I found when I searched their site. (on the attachment). Let me know how it goes. (Your justification) Take care, space
