That's cool...except the part where it looks like you're goin' in. Chuck

It doesn't matter if you have 1 or 1000....

you're wrong. -
There are at least two documented cases of failures to do an actual loop - as opposed to a steep barrel roll. In both cases the jumpers ended up IN their canopies, lines, etc. If I rememebr correctly, one got pretty radical - as you might guess. Chuck

The dog was. Damn this couch is lumpy.

And again, it obviously WASN'T made clear to him. And that's scary.

Well, if your profile is accurate, yours was around 23 years ago. My FJC was just over 3 years ago, and "try twice pull silver" was the instruction for a hard pull just that recently, so it was pretty crystal clear to me, even that recently, that there was no problem using my reserve even while my main stayed "tucked away." So not all of us are getting scary instruction. (And, in fact, I did indeed get to confirm that the reserve works just fine without the main being out at all while I was still on student progression but that's a story for another day). You might want to re-read the original post. The issue up for discussion has nothing to do with hard pulls. I'm glad your instruction was accurate, but his was obviously a bit incomplete. And ya know, 23 years ago I don't remember anyone getting past student status without knowing how their parachute worked in great detail. I hear crap like this post all the time these days - and that's scary. Aside from the first few student jumps (when knowing too much can just create overload), I find it hard to believe that anyone would jump out of a plane without a complete understanding of their life saving devise. Oh wait, we have AADs now so everything's ok. Chuck

Strange. Pretty sure that was covered in my FJC. But that was a long time ago. Maybe something changed while I was busy staying alive. By the way, who let you make 25 jumps without knowing whether your reserve will work "whilst the main is still tucked away"? I swear, this sport is getting scary.

Well since people are trying their shot at photography.

I pulled a few from my files. These particular shots are all long exposures - 20 to 30 seconds each. I also used a handheld flash unit on the fire twirler shots to freeze the twirlers during the exposure. Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX -
Looks like DFW has new DZ on the way. The players are (at least) Ivan Brigman and Jeffery Hawk, according to the company filing. "Skydive 35" is registered to an address on Brigman Road in Ft. Worth. Probably old news if you live up that way. More DZ's goooooooooooooood.

Agreed, but still curious. Besides, even if insurance covered it, making a claim on the policy could certainly jack up rates or place USPA into a higher risk category. Hence, the membership checkbook comment still applies. Too many situations like that one and USPA may not even be eligible for such coverage. Besides, I bet most folks would like to know just how badly Skyride tore USPA (or their insurer) up from a damages point of view. Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX

As I understand it, USPA settled with Skyride under undisclosed terms. Through the grapevine I hear the settlement involved USPA getting out the membership checkbook. Without getting into the case itself (which has been pretty much beat to death on the forums), I wonder how USPA will be able to omit the payoff..uh, I mean settlement, from the organization's annual financial report, which is available (by law, I believe) to all members. Just curious. Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX

I would never tell anyone else to do this, but it worked for me and others that jumped early ZP's - many of which were notorious for real whacker openings (Monarchs, Sabres, Novas, etc). We used to take the 4 cells on each side of center cell and roll them tightly inward and then stuff the roll as deep into the center cell as possible. Now you know why I say I wouldn't tell others to do - but it did work. Made the pack jop easier too, cuz it kept the nylon in a nice, tight wad before bagging it. Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX

ABC evening news just had a nice segment on the tunnel kids. Good for them. Good for the sport - especially the boy's countdown to skydive calendar! Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX

Contact Sandy Reid at Rigging Innovations. He can at least tell you who bought the Telesis originally. Probably a good place to start. Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX

Gluten-free, caseine-free was supposed to be the magic combo for the same condition. Our boys have been free of wheat and dairy for 8 years, but by no means did it 'cure' them. It has helped, absolutely! But it was not a cure. Neither was preservative free. Or red dye #40 free. Or sugar free. Or simple carb free. Or DMV. Or Oral chelation. Or flax seed oil. Or high dose B12. Or...any number of miracle remedies that over the past 8 years were supposed to 'cure'. Did I mention a no sugar diet includes all foods with corn syrup as an ingredient? (which is nearly ALL packaged food) When going sugar-free, it's important to go sugar-free. Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX
