How can I make a career out of skydiving?
chuckakers replied to skyfree's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
To make a career out of skydiving: 1. Save tons of money (you're going to need it) 2. Buy a tent (you're going to need that too) 3. Find a DZ that's fun to work for and go for it! Chuck -
I agree, and if the justice system doesn't fry him, the inmates will! Chuck

One of my early skydiving "heros" is Dick Pigg. He docked 144th on that jump, on the far end from Mike Sandberg, whose doing a "T" in the record photo. I had him sign my logbook using the number "144-way diamond docker # 144 #1". BTW, Dick lived on Turkey Foot Rd, so in the phonebook he was listed as Pigg, Dick, Turkey Foot. Life is funny. Chuck

Bummer - we love our Maltese. Hope he hangs around that long. Might I suggest posting a pic of your new puppy????
-
This is Buster. He's a cool 7 pound Maltese. The ladies really like him a lot - and he likes them. He's not too fond of guys, but he can't do any damage either. And the best part? He doesn't shed a hair! Chuck

An elephant walks into a bar. Bartender says "why the long face?"

If they say they found her wearing a space suit and an adult diaper, this NASA murder plot will have taken a major turn to the weird(er) side. Chuck

This Buster "the Babe Magnet". I tried to talk him into taking the AFF course, but all he wanted was a belly scratchin'. Chuck

I don't quite get it. You say George is a "top self" organizer, yet you also say he wouldn't put up with "less than perfect flying". Huh?? Ya know, where I come from, if you can skydive with the best, you should be a pretty good organizer too. Why don't you put your own "top shelf" loads together? Then you can read complaints about yourself on dz.com from the whiney go-low types too!

What's wrong, Rob? Did George bench you during the 3-way all-contact speedstar practice again?

Florida DZ's - conditions after tornado??
chuckakers replied to chuckakers's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The barrage of news coverage has begun after another killer tornado sweeps through the sunshine state overnight. Anyone heard how the FL DZ's fared? I keep seeing reporters doing live spots from DeLand, so they must have been hit pretty hard. Just wondering and hoping for the best. Chuck -

Ya gotta give her a skydiving name. My dog's name was Flare, and I had a blind cat named Boogie. Over the years I've known a lot of pets with famous skydive names... Runway A/C or A/D (for Airport Cat and Airport Dog) Swooop Guy Manos Cutaway Just a thought, Chuck

Looking for 20-way players in Houston!
chuckakers replied to chuckakers's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The Ballunar Liftoff Festival is scheduled for August 25 - 27 and I'm recruiting my team. If you haven't participated in Ballunar, you gotta check it out. The event is held at NASA's Johnson Space Center in the southern burbs of Houston. The festival features the states' largest balloon festival/competition, and displays of all kinds of aviation activities like choppers, ultru-lights, military fly-bys, and of course, skydiving, all weekend long. Event organizer Al Saylor has cleverly disguised a fun, low key 20-way meet as a high profile, weekend long demo, with landings right on the festival grounds in front of the spectators at NASA! Like most things skydiving here in Texas (ok, the whole gulf coast) jumping is only one reason to attend Ballunar. There's a Saturday night pool party that is taking on a legendary status, and a Sunday afternoon lunch at Mamasita's - tortilla fight included!! Ah, traditions. Skygod skills not needed, but solid 20-way skills are required. If you are interested in playing with us, e-mail me at chuckakers@houston.rr.com. Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX -

Skydiving Flame Rikindled????
chuckakers replied to chuckakers's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Hey there Skypeople, Just saw the closing ceremonies of the Olympics. The "showcase" for the ceremony was a pretty darned impressive display of open air tunnel work!!! They did various representations of Olympic events, including a dude on skis and another on a snowboard/skyboard!! The way they lit the show made it look like the tunnelrats were floating in space - go figure! You just know the viewer was curious - maybe even excited. OK, maybe I'm wrong, but I was impressed with the fact that it was part of the closing ceremonies of the Olympics. Given the size of the TV audience, it can't be bad for skydiving in general and wind tunnels more specifically. It's a long shot, but maybe this could rekindle the skydiving flame that the market seems to have lost. At the least I'm sure it will spur google searches that will turn into phone calls to tunnels and - hopefully - DZ's. What we turn those calls into is entirely up to the people answering the phones...and you if the caller ends up at the DZ. Just a thought, Chuck p.s. BJ, did you put this together? It had your first class signature.
