chuckakers replied to davecav's topic in General Skydiving Discussions

I could've swore somebody did that years ago. But I could be wrong. After all, I've been wrong one other time. Other Chuck

Old jumpers who went to the Big House
chuckakers replied to steve1's topic in Skydiving History & Trivia
Bob Branch - owner of Parachutes & Associates in Monroe, Indiana and longtime chief pilot at the nationals went to jail for is involvement in the midwest dope smuggling ring that sent numerous pilots to jail too (1985ish). The then DZ Mgr Mark Schlatter (who bought the DZ from Bob after he went to jail and moved in to Frankfurt, Indiana) told me Bob told everyone he had sold the DC3 going into a winter season, but promised to have a replacement by spring. When the *new* freshly refurbished plane arrived, a mechanic recognized the plane as the original that was *sold* while performing an inspection. Wasn't long after that the FBI showed up at the DZ to bust Bob and close the biz down. Apparently they also knew something about the plane, as well as a lot of other stuff that was going on. Rumor was that it was part of the other "midwest based importing activities" that were happening at that time. Chuck -
They now collect royalties from every source they can, including jukeboxes and even night clubs.

Actually that's smoke from a very distant fire, but it makes a nice effect. C

My wife got this from a co-worker (who happens to be a white-collar type with money). It even came complete with this year's collectibles! Beat that! Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX

Fact: 100% of the people that don't die skydiving, die some other way. And that would be a terrible way to go. Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX

Will a bag lock slow you down or increase your speed?
chuckakers replied to hackish's topic in Safety and Training
Accurate information = understanding = safer skydivers. Not sure how you don't get that. Chuck -
I'm stunned. Just talked to Ray a couple months ago. Blue Skies, Ray. You were truly one of the best. The world is better because you spent time here. Thoughts and prayers for your beautiful bride and family. Thanks for the skydives. We will all miss you, Ray. Chuck

Oh, the calories I consumed from the pots and pans of Mamma Waz! As a Spaceland jumper circa 1987, I have many very fond memories of Rose. The Wagner boys can stand tall having a Mom like her. God's speed, Rose. You did a fine job with your sons - a legacy to be proud of, for sure. Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX

Malfunction drill: One or two hands to cut-away?
chuckakers replied to Andievh's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Once with one, twice with two, then as long as it takes with whatever it takes. Chuck -

Maybe you should consider another sport. Not a joke at all.

You clearly don't get it. If I was the DZO where you jump, you would be looking for a new place to skydive.

That's what I understand. C

A friend just told me he heard that someone (in Texas somewhere, he thinks) had the lines on a canopy intentionally cut. He said it happened at a DZ, but that it was the person's b.a.s.e rig. Anyone know about this? Chuck
