So. Why not? It is the bonfire after all; this forum is specifically for non-skydiving, non-controversial topics. You have a point, so here's a suggestion: How 'bout Honcho starts a new forum section called "discussions about non-skydiving related subjects such as p*ssing on your girlfriends face for sexual pleasure, swallowing epicac for the purpose of winning a "hold your vomit down the longest" contest, and other assorted subjects that must be allowed here because Andrewwhyte says so. Using your logic. Sangiro will likely just remove the section completely.

Classic ADD symptoms if you ask anyone in the (NEA controlled) teaching biz - "full of energy, having problems sitting still and paying attention to stories" are all common signs. Telling you it's an intelligence issue is the first step. The second step - usually just as you reach the end of your parental rope on the issue - is to tell you they have a solution, and it's DRUGS! The real solution is easy. Remove ALL sugars from the kids diet. Nothing else - just that. No discipline changes, no schedule modifications, nothing. Just get the sugar - ALL THE SUGAR - out of the diet (including starches and sugars that are in packaged food). In every clinical study in which it has been tested, taking 100% of sugars out of the diet resulted in ALL ADD symptoms going away almost immediately. Try it. You'll be surprised how well and how quickly it will work. Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX

Can't even imagine it.

Hey Honch, If the posts you refer to are simply the ones in which people get "loud" and "obnoxious" over real-world issues, I must disagree - so long as the poster stays on subject. If, however, you are referring to the people who have decided dz.com is the place to talk about every sick topic under the sun, you get my vote. I'm no prude, and even I'm sick of clicking on a thread only to find the subject matter sick and irrelevant. I don't care what some of you like to take a dump on and nibble with a nice bottle of chianti. I just don't think this is the place to tell skydivers about your latest recipes. Silly girl. You are mistakenly thinking that since you figured out there is a statistical "skew" to the "close to home" category of accidents, that somehow a rider isn't in more danger there. But the very fact you mention (that a rider spends more time close to home than elsewhere) is WHY there are more accidents there. So regardless of how "skewed" you believe that stat may be, it is still true. It is also well established that people are less diligent and routinely careless when driving or riding near home. This fact is a big contributor to the "skewed" stat you site. Chuck

The VAST MAJORITY of all motor vehicle accidents occur within a few miles of home, so - in theory at least - that's the most important time to have one on. And c'mon, Russ - "field of view" is a little lame as a reason not to wear a lid, don't you think? People who ride should decide, but let's not try to justify riding without a helmet by citing silly shit. Chuck Akers D-10855 Houston, TX

Pay no attention to what others have done. That's how many (dead) swoopers got started. My advise is pretty simple. Don't downsize until you have a complete command of your current canopy. The key word there is "complete". If you need a headwind to land standing up all nice and pretty, don't downsize. If you feel like the canopy gets ahead of you mentally (especially close to the target area and/or in traffic), don't downsize. And don't miss this one - if other jumpers have obvious concerns about your ability to fly and land your canopy, consider upsizing! Chuck

Group Member Program Pros/Cons
chuckakers replied to skydived19006's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Another fine example of why the GM program should be dropped. In this case, I'm sure the head shed would say the "fee" is a way to keep fairness in the system by forcing a surcharge on non-member DZ's (which, USPA would say, need to pony up money for resources needed to process the course's administrative tasks pre and post-course that member DZ's pay for in the annual GM dues). But, as any businessperson will tell you, any fee, fine, or any other hike in costs simply results in a price increase (somewhere) in the products and/or services the business sells. I think it is hugely beneficial to have DZO's on the board. After all, DZO's understand skydiving operations about as well as anyone. However, once DZ's are added to the membership roster, the conflict is obvious. Nothing new here, really. USPA should never have started a GM program, and should seriously consider canning it and getting back to the business they were so good at for 40+ years - developing safety and training doctrine and fighting the government to keep the skies and airports open for us (notice I said us, not drop zones. As for whether Gary should drop his group membership, I say yes. But more important, I think Gary and everyone else should use the voice and the vote of their individual membership to lobby this idiotic money grab out of exsistence. Remember this: USPA is a membership organization. If enough members demand anything hard and long enough, they'll get it. I guess the individual members just haven't had the program slap them in the face hard enough yet. Chuck -

The wife does marathons and tri's and is very happy with her Garmin training GPS. It has some pretty slick software that allows the user to glean a lot of useful data from each run. Chuck
