How would you feel if your rigger smoked dope?

At our DZ we even have strict rules about cracking a beer and then packing your main! Damn, I usually get my best openings on those pack jobs. "The needs of the many out weigh the needs of the few, or the one" - rehmwa -

I think everyone here has forgotten about that little side affect MJ has. Like short term memory loss I can just see said rigger looking around saying " I wonder what I did with that temp pin?" I had a IX Lite on my first camera helmet, this is just opinion, but I would chunk it and find a nice 35mm Rebel. I had to many problems to count, the color never seemed as good as 35mm and the lens conversion left alot to be desired, the huge display on the back of the camera lasted about 10 jumps before it cracked, frames per second were a litlle slow, ect. I think you can finda a Rebel G or X for a pretty reasonable price and have a lot better quality in the pics you shoot. Thanks for all the info, I must admit I probably learned more about TSO's than I ever wanted to know. But good info either way. "The needs of the many out weigh the needs of the few, or the one" - rehmwa

Thanks guys, I know a large percent of jumpers today overload their reserves and it looks like another assumed risk we take. I personally overload my reserve by about 15 pounds, but only because the size of my main dictates the size of my reserve, because harness/containers are built the way they are. Which brings up another question. When do you think manufactures will try to engineer a harness/container system to cater to the growing number of jumpers who fly small parachutes, but would like a reserve that is more suited to their weight or personal preference? Lets face it, a 220lb jumper landing unconcious under a PD106 reserve is a real possibility, and that jumper becoming a fatality report due to that landing is a real scary thought. Exactly what I'm looking for, is there indeed a FAR that states that a reserve must be used within it's stated maximum suspended weight limit? Or is it purely just a recomendation that the manufacture sets for liability reasons? If you are a rigger, does this manufacture limit push the liability on you or solely on the end user of the equipment? "The needs of the many out weigh the needs of the few, or the one" - rehmwa

I guess I would have to go with which one the FAA recognizes as the maximum suspended weight limit. "The needs of the many out weigh the needs of the few, or the one" - rehmwa

I did a search and really didn't find the info I wanted, so I decided to start a poll. Please don't thrash me too bad if this has come up before. I'll start with the question. Would you as a rigger pack a reserve that you knew the jumper was over the maximum suspended weight of that reserve or would you send the jumper on his way to find another rigger? I only ask after reading an incident report on another string and after witnessing a pretty heated discussion on the subject at the DZ this weekend. Boy I'd love to contact this manufacturer!

Same here, mine has been through alot of abuse and doesn't miss a lick I had to send a FT-50 back for repair one time, due to an unexpected water landing by someone who borrowed it. If I remember right, I sent it to Square1 and they returned it for repair and didn't charge me a dime -
I like it! Go for it guys! "The needs of the many out weigh the needs of the few, or the one" - rehmwa

Where they can kill, rape and plunder each other................shit, turn it into the next bid reality show.............."Survive This Shit". I am 5'11" and 215, not muscle bound, but not fat either. I figure a 200 pound student is pushing my personal safety limits for the both of us. Field elevation here is pushing 2800' and temps above 100 degrees is common in spring and summer. The biggest I have taken was 6'3" 220, on a breezy day in the fall. Only did it because he drove 4 hours to get to the dz and I was the only TM that day. We had an uneventful skydive. "The needs of the many out weigh the needs of the few, or the one" - rehmwa

Tandem Instructor Poll: I Have Had A Student . . .

Two pukers, My very first real paying customer blew chunks on me from the time we opened til we landed, seems he had a long night building courage with Jack Daniels. Number two was from getting stuck in a thermal, hot bumpy air, not losing any altitude we stayed at 3k feet for about 20min, I asked her if she liked amusement rides, she said yes, so I spiraled us a couple of times tryin to lose altitude, I'd stop after each spiral and asked her if she was o.k., after the third set of spirals I asked if she was o.k and she replied "BLAAAAAH" all over herself and the jumpsuit. One pants pisser, I took my high school guidance councelor One pants pooper, I can't prove it, but I'm pretty sure that hillbilly shit his pants "The needs of the many out weigh the needs of the few, or the one" - rehmwa
